Are you saying that arnold may have whored his way to the top?
Well, it wouldn’t affect my vote (if I lived in California). All politicians are whores in one way or another.

Some comments to make:
While several people have mentioned Simon, no one here has mentioned Tom McClintock, who’s polling better than Simon.
Some people here have been under the impression that the vote will go:
Left- Bustamante
Center- Schwarzenegger
Right- Simon
This commentary ignores the following facts:
2a) Bustamante’s a moderate. In fact, the major reason that he’s running now for Governor is that he probably isn’t liberal enough to win a Gubinatorial primary in California, nor does he have the cash needed to negate that problem.
2b) As stated earlier, Tom McClintock (another candidate from the political right) is polling better than Simon is.
2c) This commentary ignores the presense of Ueberroth (center), Camejo (left), Huffington (left, but, ironically, winning much of her support from people who might think she’s still on the political right), and the various silly candidates (who should win votes from silly people).
It is statistically irrelevant how he is perceived. There are over 200 names on the ballet. Name recognition will be the sole decider of the election.
As a fiscal conservative, I find this election an obscene waste of money. I also feel Davis should be in jail for failure to correct the power shortage. I say this because I distinctly remember reading about the impending shortage a year in advance and thinking how easy it was to fix (in the short term). You build a bunch of peak-use generators like they did in Ohio. They take 6 months to construct. That is what California eventually did, AFTER the shortages occurred. Total BS. Davis actually stood in front of one of these generators and announced they were building new power stations (more BS).
If anyone died of heat exhaustion it should be negligent homicide on Davis’ part.
Wanting is not the same thing as having.
If Arnie survives any backlash and gets elected, what will he do? At what point will Californians wake up and realize the Golden State is not a Minnesota Ventura state, let along a Reagan state.
Will we see another recall election in a year’s time? Will the realities of a $38 billion deficit and everything that means force Arnie to hire real public service professionals to do the actually thinking, decision-making and work to get it all done?
Ya know, having your cake and eating it too has no nutritional value – just empty calories. Arnie’s election appears to be a cakewalk but at the end of the day, California really needs a meat, potatoes and vegetable governor.
As for Davis, why blame him for everything? Doesn’t the State Legislature have a say in how the state is run?
Like Gary Coleman?
There is nothing quite as odd in the news today as the item about hwo Arnold’s campaign is trying to get Peta to remove a quote from their MilkSucks.com website where Arnold says “Milk is for babies.” Arnold’s campaign claims that it was uttered in a movie, so shouldn’t be counted as a real quote, and Peta responds that that movie was a documentary about Arnold.
I dunno, call me crazy, but I’m not sure the dairy industry is really going to crucify Arnold for bad mouthing milk when he was younger.
Milk production is pretty big in California. Sadly, PETA also appears to be.
I just heard on the news today that Bill Clinton was giving Davis advice and might even help him campaign or whatever.
No, I wouldn’t. But are you naive enough to think that the voting public would be as cavalier about it as you or me?
lissener, you have asserted this accusation as a fact. Do you have a cite or are you just flinging feces? I’m impressed, though, both Rush Limbaugh and Gray Davis would be proud of you. Neat trick.
In fact, while such an accusation would indeed be a live hand-grenade, hand-grenades don’t always hit their intended targets. If such an allegation were handled correctly, it could easily turn out a massive sympathy vote for Arnold among democrats, not to mention voters who might otherwise be inclined to vote for Huffington. Even some conservative republicans might well be annoyed at the muck-raking press digging up personal info from thirty or thirty-five years ago.
The bottom line here, is that such an accusation against Arnold could easily end up undercutting Bustamonte’s base since the hard-core conservative vote - those most likely to be affected by such an accusation – is going to be split between Mclintock and Simon anyway.
Spoofe:
He’s more of a “galaxy of prawns” man.
I ought to point out that we’re talking about California here, not South Carolina. If incontrovertable evidence gets out that Arnold Schwarzenegger did have a gay lover some time in his past, the majority of the residents would probably shrug and not give it a second thought.
And San Francisco would be a shoo-in on that news…
Truth Seeker, I do not have a cite. But I can explain my certainty.
I am involved with a website that is a clearinghouse for men who hire straight bodybuilders for what are called “muscleworship” sessions. It has 14,000 visitors a day, and 5 different discussion boards. I have been involved with this site, in varying capacities, since 1996. In that time I have had the opportunity to talk to many MANY men who regularly hire straight bodybuilders for muscleworship. It’s always been acknowledged among the older men, the men who’ve been such clients for upwards of 20 or 30 years, that Arnold Schwarzenegger spent some time on the musclworship circuit. This is not a recent “accusation” I’ve just dug up; it’s something that’s taken for granted as true within this subculture of the bodybuilding culture.
Many, many young bodybuilders–I hesitate only slightly to say most–resort to such “sponsorship.” A competitive bodybuilder must make nearly a full-time job of working out, and must supplement his diet wish very expensive nutritional supplements, and it’s a given fact that all of the biggest (i.e., most successful in competition) BBers take anabolic steroids, which are very expensive.
So these are guys–usually driven and obsessive about their bodybuilding and all it entails–who must support a VERY expensive activity while having very little time outside this activity to work. So MANY of them accept “sponsorship” money from “fans,” and in return they give those “fans” “private posing sessions.” It is generally assumed that these “private posing sessions” for sponsors are nude, and that physical contact is allowed by the poser. There’s VERY little market for posers who don’t do nude, and who don’t allow contact.
That’s the context.
Within that context, I can tell you that I’ve spoken (online) with several men who had private posing sessions with Arnold when he was a struggling young BB, and who have said all along that these sessions were nude (one such session even produced documentaty evidence: we’ve all seen the pics), and that Arnold allowed “limited” sexual contact–i.e., the “sponsor,” if he was suitably “generous,” could get Arnold off, but Arnold would not get the sponsor off.
This has all been taken for granted as true from the very beginning of Arnold’s rise, and is not a recent “revelation.” This subculture usually abides by the unwritten law of total discretion, though, so who knows how widely this may ever become known? Joe Millionaire was ratted out, but nothing much came of it. Now, if he were to run for Governor, who knows?
For what it’s worth, I personally know of several prominent, magazine-cover, nationally ranked competitive bodybuilders, who “discreetly” supplement their bodybuilding career by providing muscleworship services to a “select group of clients.”
It’s simply not that unusual in that world.
John Mace:
Actually, from what little I know of Arnold’s politics, I rather like him (moderate Repub, social lib). If I was a Californian, I’d give some consideration to voting for him, although I have no idea what kind of administrator he would be.
It’s hard to imagine he could be worse than Davis.

Well, let’s get it all out there. The truth is better than all this sly innuendo. Surely if everyone’s seen these pictures, there must be evidence of it somewhere on the internet. Let’s have a link. Maybe Matt Drudge is reading this and you’ll get famous. I see that Arnold did pose nude in Cosmopolitan in the late 70s, perhaps these are the pictures you’ve seen.
I suppose anything is possible, but Arnie’s history certainly weighs against the necessity for any such activity. He came to the U.S. in 1968 and he did, in fact, have a real job - he started his own bricklaying company. He had already demonstrated an aptitude for business before he came to the U.S… According to what I’ve read, he started working in a gym in Austria to pay for his training and ended up as the owner a year later. In 1968, he also won his first big proffesional competition and already had several corporate ponsorship deals. He stared in his first, admittedly cheesy, movie in 1970, began appearing on television and won a Golden Globe in 1976.
Arnold was certainly not your typical wanna-be bodybuilder. Maybe he was a gay male prostitute or maybe your buds on the website engage in a lot of wishful thinking. Either way, let’s get the facts.
Come on, guys. Somone in an internet chat room said it’s true. What more proof do you need?
Truth Seeker, what difference do you think any of that should make now?
LOL! I’m not making sly innuendo, I’m being pretty explicit.
There can’t be any further proof, short of testimony under oath, so it’s not likely to “come out” in any verifiable way. But I feel pretty certain that if one of the guys I know who did have “private posing sessions” with Schwarzenegger ever says so in public, Arnold is more likely to ignore it than sue him for libel; he won’t want it to go to court. Just like OJ has never gone to court to assert his “innocence,” I doubt very much if Schwarzenegger would ver do so either.
And if you think if anyone can put in the kind of workouts required to become a competitive bodybuilder, then put in more than a VERY few hours a week as a bricklayer, you’re pretty deluded.
So, in other words, despite your earlier claim of documentary evidence, you’ve got nothing. To be specific, you’ve got the word of some 70 or so year old guy (or who at least claims to be that old) with a serious muscle fetish who you don’t actually know personally.
As for your comment about working while body building, now you’re definitely just blowing smoke. Arnold had quite an active Hollywood career going while attending school and winning all those competitions. He was also active in charity work and managing his rapidly growing business interests.
Why does it matter, Elvis? Well, apparently it matters to some people. This is the second time this bit of rumour/gossip has been raised just on this board. Maybe there’s something to it or maybe it’s just a combination of wishful thinking and jealousy. In either case, it ought to be either debunked or dealt with so that the real issues can be addressed.
