This game requires a smartphone or tablet with predictive text. If you have a desktop or laptop computer with an application with predictive text, that will work also.
The object of this game is to write a story using the predictive text feature of your smart phone or tablet. Enter the last word from the previous post into a smartphone app so it offers several choices for the next word. I do this in the memo app on my smartphone, but there may be other apps that you may use to achieve the same end.
From the list of suggested words, choose one to continue the story. You may enter up to five consecutive words, each suggested by the previous word you chose. You may add punctuation whenever you think it is appropriate, but if you end a sentence with a period or question mark, etc., you must enter the first word of the new sentence.
An example might be as follows: If the previous sentence was, “I awoke one morning with…”, you would begin with the word “with” to get suggestions for the next word, which, on my smartphone are ‘the’, ‘a’ or ‘you’. If I choose ‘a’, the next suggested words are ‘gun’, ‘woman’ or ‘little’. If I choose ‘little’, the next suggested words are ‘bit’, luck’ or ‘more’. If I choose ‘bit’, this would result in my post being …‘a little bit’. The next player would play off of the word ‘bit’ and continue the story from there.
You may enter up to five words in each post, but if you end a sentence, you must add a sixth word to begin the next sentence. You may not enter consecutive posts, but you may enter non-consecutive posts that alternate with the posts of another player. You may quote the previous poster, or just pick up where they left off. Do not quote the whole story (I’m not sure how that would happen, but just in case.) If sentence syntax gets hopelessly confused, end the sentence and begin another.
Let’s see how this goes, and we can make new rules if needed to keep the game on track. Any suggestions are welcome.
Here is how the story begins:
“I was walking down the street, when…”
Good luck!
