Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffienatin’. YAWN Thus beginneth my work week. Ick.
Yay on the raise snowbunny!
Taxi good to know your church wants to be a church that welcomes anybody. After all, church is one place that should always be true.
I haven’t mentioned this yet, but work is gettin’ to be a really tense place. In the past couple of weeks, people have been fired, demoted and laid off. A whole lot of this is due to really bad management and I’m startin’ to think ATT may just decide to shut down the place. The demotions and firings have come from the head honchos and include the manager (who hired me), and several “assistant” managers. Needless to say, da bear has feelers out.
I actually slept pretty well last night, considering the nightmares I had after working the wreck. Now I must deal with the depressing shit related to having to go to work.
Glad to hear you’re sleeping better, VBob, it is never good when things like that interfere with a much-needed night’s rest.
Congrats on the raise, snowbunny. I am told we are getting a negotiated raise of about 0.5% this month. Woo and hoo. Any ideas what I should spend my extra 32p on?
My chippie friend came back to the house yesterday to finish building the new cabinets in my bathroom so that is looking much better. He’s just got to do the sealing and finishing touches today, and put the shelf up in the cupboard under the sink then it will be finished. My next job is to find the right sort of tiles for the floor and the sink and bath splashbacks. Then there will be decorating. It’s all go!
Yesterday I missed class waiting for the courier that was supposed to come pick my netbook up. They never came, never called. I called Toshiba at 4pm and they confirmed the courier was supposed to come.
Today I’ve called again. The pick up was cancelled because the courier couldn’t find the place. No, he didn’t call me either, didn’t even try. At one point, today’s CSR got so nervous that her Indian accent came through, after she’d suggested “calling Toshiba in Spain instead” and I said “so you’re suggesting I should spend two months with a broken computer because your courier can’t find a university campus and your corporate policies don’t allow me to go deliver the netbook to the courier instead?”
I know it’s not her fault, but Toshiba has joined my list of Computer Brands I Shall Not Buy Again. The couriers are supposed to try again on Friday: she wanted to send them tomorrow, but I refuse to miss more classes on this and don’t have any on Friday, so Friday it is. If they pull another no-show, I guess I’ll have to decide whether I break the warranty by taking the netbook to an unauthorized repair shop, wait until April or toss it
**SnowBunny **-- Yay on the raise, minimal as it may be; it’s always nice to be appreciated, even if the reward doesn’t amount to much…
**Nava **-- I guess you’re committed to waiting for the courier on Friday, but you really need to demand to speak to a supervisor, and then to their supervisor, as high up as necessary.
At this point I would be demanding, that in recognition of their shitty service, they should bring you a replacement lap-top for the time being until they fix yours.
Hey, it worked for me with the cell phone – Talked to a super, who, ultimately, agreed to call ahead to the dealer, and make sure that there would be no hassle accepting my dead phone for pickup there, and that I would be given a replacement phone in the interim.
This morning I feel weird. I’ve been playing games with my caffeine intake (as in, I haven’t had nearly any at all) and I’m not sure who is going to win at this point. Oh well. Who needs energy?
Today’s classes have been cancelled. The teachers keep getting sick. It’s not my fault. Nooner, I considered that, but given that her supervisor is also an Indian, it would likely have needed a lot more time (and more money for the phone company) that I was willing to invest at that point in order to get to Someone Who Can Decide. What’s completely absurd, and I said so after explaining that I didn’t mean it so much for her as for the QA people, is that the only way to send the laptop in is via courier. If the courier can’t find you, tough luck. No, you can’t go bring it over to the courier. And the courier is UPS, it’s not like they don’t have locations all over the freaking place!
Their technical service in Spain takes the form of agreements with several laptop-repair businesses, about 20 over the country: you can just pick one and drop the laptop off. That’s without taking into account that many of the big computer stores are also authorized for repairs. Let’s hope nobody over there decides to “modernize” the model.
And we got snow! The mountain got a foot! It looks like I’ve got maybe six inches right now. I won’t know for sure until I go out there to clear my car off and shovel the piles from the plow out of the way so I can leave. Woo!
At this point, I’d take 32 cents. I have absolutely no clue what’ll happen. But I’ll find out.
Nava, I could see myself doing a Yosemite Sam in your situation. I hope they get their shit together.
Glad you slept better, Bobbio.
Work today will be…interesting.
We have a new person starting today. She did a lateral transfer from a different department to mine. She doesn’t like me. I am…ambivelent…about her. She’s pissed because she thought she could waltz in here and take my office. She was told that was not happening. It’s all rather stupid.
Well, I should set my nose to the grindstone. So much work, so little time.
Supposed to meet with the woman who runs the food website today, since they like to meet all their writers face-to-face before they let them loose as their representatives. Wish me luck! The pay won’t be much (maybe $5 per article, if I’m lucky… which means a whopping $10/mth)… but it’s better than a kick in the pants, right?
Nava, I feel your pain. Our house is set up in such a way that there’s no front door, just a side door… so couriers inevitably leave stuff with the neighbours, or don’t show up at all. At this point, I just resort to having them do pick up and drop off at the office, since they can’t possibly miss a big huge office building which prominently displays the address in one-foot-tall numbers.
Congrats on the raise, snowbunny! Hope it’s a decent one.
muppet, getting paid means you are a “professional,” right?
Congrats on the raise, snowbunny! I haven’t seen that rare animal in three years.
nava, that’s the kind of stuff that sets my teeth on edge. Good luck.
taters, people like that need the proverbial trout. With any luck she won’t be happy with your department either and will soon depart.
bobbio, sad story.
Mr. Anachi had a dental procedure yesterday involving lasering his gums away from his teeth and then sonic scaling of the roots in one quadrant. He was a hurting puppy last night. Good thing the doc gave him some lortabs. Still sore this morning and it looks a mess in there to me but he says it is better. He can only eat soft foods for the rest of the week. Poor guy.
I’m about to give my GPS a serious talking to. Twice now it has sent me over 20 miles out of my way heading to TVMan’s house. I looked at the route summary this time, but I didn’t look far enough down.
Hey, I’m undisappearing again for a bit. We’ll see how long it lasts. =^_^=
I suppose I’m privileged that neither my parents nor grandparents are prejudiced. It would be perfectly understandable for my grandparents to be, and I believe that their parents and some of their siblings are (I’m not sure).
Anyway, I’m supposed to be doing stuff right now, so I should wrap this up. I’m back in the dorms, I have a freelance gig that I need to work on, and my classes start at noon. I’m not sure if I mentioned it here, but I’m now back on Paxil. I’m hoping the side effects fade pretty soon (pretty much nausea and big yawns - not sleepy just BIG yawns. And I’m not sure if the insomnia is the drugs, the depression, or the lack of exercise.)
Unfuckingbelievable! First day and she’s whispering over the phone about her accomodations to the previous bitch queen bees from this division.
I can’t WAIIIIITTTTT to dump some work on her. Maybe then she’ll understand why I need some fucking peace and quiet in the office.
Yet another large project dumped on me. Like I don’t have fucking enough to do under short deadlines!
Yay on the raise, snowbunny! Even if it’s a little bit, it’s nice to have your work acknowledged.
We’re hearing rumors around here that last year was really good and we should get good bonuses this year. That will be awesome.
Good luck, swampy. Here’s hoping you can find something better.
{{Taters}} Hopefully she’ll move on and be someone else’s problem soon!
Hope Mr. Anachi feels better soon. Are you having to eat soft foods too, pugs? It’d be kind of mean to eat other stuff in front of him, but then again, it’d suck for you to be stuck eating soup just 'cause he has to.
Good luck getting the laptop to the courier, Nava. Sounds like a PITA.
Has anyone else seen Archer yet? We watched one episode last night, and it was really funny.
Another crazy day at work… I’m off and running. ::zoom!::
{{Taters}} I don’t suppose you can start handing off all the really boring and frustrating and annoying tasks to her, can you? Because that would be awesome.
taxi, I really, really want to watch Archer, especially since everyone has been going on about how funny it is. Unfortunately, we don’t get the channel up here in Canadia, so I guess I’ll have to resort to ummm… borrowing… it from the internet. (We already do that with Venture Brothers, because it doesn’t air in Canada either, and I loves me some silly cartoon shows for grownups)
Welcome back, STG!
Puggy, I dunno if I count as a professional if I’m spending more money on the gig than I am making from it. On the plus side, maybe I’ll get the occasional freebie or swag out of it. We shall see.
The definition of ultimate mean would be for Puggy to chow down on a thick, juicy t-bone steak in front of MrAnachi. I have such evil thoughts sometimes!
Taters sounds like she puts the IRK in Co-irker. Here’s hopin’ you get to dump some really awful work on her haid.
Howdy Tyge! Good to see ya! Hope the classes are goin’ ok and you get the Paxil all regulated.
CutiePie my opinion of most gps’s is, listen to the directions and do the opposite and you’ll get there everytime!
Muppet is gettin’ paid to eat. How jake is that y’all!
Nava congrats on the great customer service. Remember, if needed, Special1 has offered to do your dirty work.
snowbunny I know snow is good for you and work but, please keep it all there. 'kthnksbye!
ETA: Thanks for all the well wishes. Y’all make a bear feel special (N.O.S1).
