Prepping for a visit in the MMP

Someone is going to drop in and you don’t have a whole lot of warning. Do you straighten the magazines on the coffee table and smile, or it is all out OMGTHISPLACEISAMESSWHATAMIGONNADO???

My mom is coming for lunch tomorrow. It’s probably been close to a decade since she’s been here. (Funny - it’s not such a terrible distance to drive when I’m the one driving to her house, but I digress.) Once upon a time, it would have been panic-inducing, since we were not the tidiest of people - not gross-dirty, just lots of clutter. These days, tho, it’s mostly not awful. Well, except for that dusting thing…

So, if a Mumper called to say “I’ll be there in an hour” how would you react?

Happy Moanday!

First! It’s good to be juvenile!

Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 78 Amurrkin out and mostly sunny with a predicted high of 97 and sunny, with a heat advisory in effect, as usual. The big item on today’s agenda is men’s night over to the church house this evenin’. We will go over early to prep as is our wont. Until then, however, we will be in da cave in the a/c.

We try not to be so slovenly. Right now if someone called and said I’ll be over in an hour, da cave would not be too bad as the cleanin’ service was just here last week. We will vacuum and wipe the place down between cleanin’s, as that’s what we do. You see what you see. However, da yahd is awful right now, so they would just have to deal.

Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then, onward into the day! Rah.

Happy Moanday Y’all!

First! (If I don’t spend too much time typing…) ETA: Ninja’d by Swampy. I must learn to type faster!

If sudden visitors were expected, I’d do nothing except retreat to the deck and have a beer. I don’t feel the need to change anything for visitors. But I’d grab the dog and get out of the house to avoid getting run down by speeding vacuums. My wife will clean up frantically for anyone.

Morning all, getting some coffee and ready for some runabout errands. Daughter is returning from a months long archeology dig somewhere in Greece. Has taxiied, boated, and bussed her way back to Athens, and hopefully will arrive here this evening. Looking forward to it, and her dog is sensing that something’s up. He will go crazy when he sees her again.

Hope everyone has a good week.

Yanker glad your daughter is returnin’ today. I am sure all of you and the dog will be so excited! Also, the secret to postin’ first, is to post the juvenile part and the edit to add other stuff. Yes, I am that juvenile.

As for my day, I’ll be getting everything ready for tomorrow’s lunch. I need to build the chicken salad - at least I cooked and cut up the chickie yesterday, so today is for cutting up apples, grapes, and pecans, mixing the dressing, then mixing it all together. I also need to build the deviled eggs, but that can be done tomorrow if necessary. But the other must-do for today is dessert - the Mexican fried ice cream. Which means I need to get the hot fudge and some caramel sauce. I also want a loaf of take-and-bake bread from Aldi. And some pineapple chunks from Food Lion. I should probably make a list.

I’ll rollsuck, too, and maybe whisk a dust rag around the living room. It’ll be a busy day for sure. Especially since FCD insists on going to the boat to clean up - a chore that can wait. He’s just a tad obsessive sometimes. Oh, and maybe I’ll mow, tho that might be a tomorrow morning chore, after the toad-soaker we got last night.

Whew!

Afternoon.

As my house is still in the middle of being redecorated, putting too much time into keeping the rest of it immaculate would be like putting lipstick on a pig. If you give me an hour’s notice, I’ll run the vacuum around abit, clear the clutter which is currently on the table, and as for the rest… well, I do warn people.

I was debating going in today, but decided against it. Just popped out to the post office, scoffing a sammich and some strawberries, then will be back to the writing and pacing in a few minutes. It’s pleasant outside, if a bit cloudy, with some heavy rain due later.

Clever! (takes notes).

Nothing is out of place. No decluttering needed.

Are you some kind of mutant???
:face_with_raised_eyebrow:

Gotta add plant-watering to my list. And yet I sit here, surfing…

We live in clutter. There is one room that nobody sees. It’s where my wife goes on line and it’s been a nightmare since we moved in here several years ago. Paper piled up on the large computer desk, crap from the move still in boxes on the floor. Plastic tubs full of I-don’t-know-what. Otherwise, the rest of the house isn’t horrible, just. . .full.

Woke up with a headache and feeling achy for some reason. No weird weather swings, so it’s not that. Just age, I guess. On with the week.

Inside my mind, Stevie Ray Vaughan is yowling, “Well, it’s floodin’ down in Texas.” Recently, though, it’s my original hometown of Anderson, Indiana. You might have seen clips of it in your news feed. The White River grew bigger than usual, and it set new records for flood depth.

One of today’s news stories says the erectile dysfunction drug Cialis (tadalafil) has unexpected results of cardiovascular benefits and even increased longevity. Wisecracks about a “long hard life” will ensue, I’m sure.

Tommy John died. He was a baseball pitcher who blew out a tendon in his pitching arm. That would have ended his career, but he got a new kind of tendon transplant surgery, which allowed him to return to the game for several more years. The surgery is now named for him. Oddly, though Tommy John was not inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame, the Tommy John surgery is there.

High fives and "atta"s to all who need 'em. See you later.

Morning all. After a weekend behaving itself my bladder went to hyper-mode and got me up 3 times last night, so grumpy I am… 97F is the predicted high and a 50% chance of rain today, so hot and wet, not the best weather to start the week. Nothing much on the agenda, need to get Apples from Kroger and a #3 sammich from Jersey Mike’s but that is all that I have planned. Did the first of 6 assembly steps for my new office chair, will see how many I get to today.

As for FCM’s opening post, I usually pick up just enough and clean just enough that if I have 1-2 hours notice I can get it in fairly good shape (and if it ain’t good enough, hey, I am what I am).

Yanker, happy reunion with daughter.

And need to replenish onboard stores and hydrate, so take care all and see you around these parts.

every year i resolve to keep house as if someone was dropping by… i have yet to fully meet that resolution.

thus, the scurryfunge would be in full force. don’t look in the closet.

from watching many murder shows i do have fleeting thoughts about what the m. e.and police would think.

last meal seems to be ice cream… chocolate…gummy bears…!!!

the dust is particularly eloquent, look here and here… what is that over there…??!

sometimes the crime scene photos on the various shows, has me thinking, it’s not so bad here.

asknott, i heard about that on npr this morning.

Good morning.

It’s mostly cloudy and 57F. The clouds will clear later this morning, so it’ll be sunny with a high of right around 80F.

If I have an hour to prepare for guests, I’ll dust and run the roll-suck if I haven’t done it in the last couple of days. Otherwise, I tend to keep the house somewhat tidy.

Shoe, when I was talking about tabs, I meant my husband’s car. We have to renew tabs yearly. They are little stickers for our license plates that show the month and year of expiration.

Yanker, happy reunion with your daughter. I’m sure she has lots of good stuff to share!

I ran to Costco yesterday to pick up some paper towels and dog treats (Bocce Bakery and Duck Jerky) yesterday. After that, I braved the mall to find some new jeans and casual pants. I didn’t really find casual pants, but I found some jeans. I don’t really like them all that much, but the jeans I have are old and showing it.

I wandered up and down one big part of the mall. I need some new makeup, so I looked for some, but I suddenly felt overwhelmed. The store has lost many big anchors, Macy’s among them. The big stores there now are JCPenney, Dick’s Sporting Goods, DSW, and Target. There is also an Old Navy there. The rest of the mall is jewelry and weird little shops. There is also an H&M and an American Eagle Outfitters there. The rest of the shops are pretty much weird and junky. The old Macy’s space is now a large discount space, and there is a bowl/arcade place in the old Sears space. That mall is dying, and it’s not even that old, as far as malls go. It first opened in 1988 with Lamonts, Mervyn’s, and Target, and then expanded in the early 90s.

Maybe it’s just me, but there are no quality clothing stores there at all. If I want that, I need to go to Tacoma, or up to Tukwila, Seattle, Bellevue, or Kirkland. It’s annoying. The last four places are quite a distance from me. It wouldn’t bother me so much if I were living rurally, but I live in the suburbs! It’s ridiculous.

Anyway, after wandering the mall a little bit (I didn’t even go down one wing), I stopped for lunch, and brought it home. I spent the rest of the day being an RDOS with spots of tidying.

I’ll probably hang out at home today.

Okay, time for more coffee. Please take care of yourselves.

Afternoon, mumpers! It’s currently 22c/72f with a predicted high of 23c/73f and cloudy. Weather app says “Warm fucking front? More like a fucking dumb front.”

Mooooom our place is best described as “functionally clean”, the kitchen and bathroom are clean but the carpets usually need vacuuming about half an hour after I’ve finished them because the cats track bits of litter everywhere. I can’t be bothered running the rollsuck more than once a week, so unless disaster strikes, you take as you find.

Yanker glad to hear daughter is on her way home, that is going to be one very happy pupper when she arrives!

rocker I gave up dusting years ago. It just comes back. Why bother?

Yesterday was a lovely slothful day wherein I managed to do very little of any use apart from grocery shopping and providing dinner (leftover chilli from the freezer). I was in bed at a reasonable time but did not sleep well. I was up before the alarm went off and tended to the needs of cats before I could face logging into irk.

My inbox was full of all sorts of stuff so I spent the morning getting that all dealt with. I’ve shuffled some meetings around as one of my Thursday ones has moved to Wednesday so it can be in-person, and that meant moving another Wednesday one to a later time. I also have a training session on Wednesday afternoon so that’ll be fun.

I have checked in with my minions, the non-troublesome one is happy as all is well in his world. He’s getting a new desk this week which we’ve battled several months for. Troublesome Minion is rightly worried about her job because incoming students to the dept she runs admin for are very small. I am not about to tell her not to worry because her student numbers will treble when we implement our planned admin changes!

I have just over an hour until I can log out of irk and sloth for a bit before I head off to the gym. Alternatively, I might go to the gym early if tonight’s class is cancelled as it has been the last couple of times I’ve booked on it.

The humidity is decreasing, thank goodness. Even inside with the a/c set at 74, I could feel it. I have the big patio door open for fresh air. This morning Ariel gets a third shockwave treatment on her leg.

Short notice company: litter box out of the powder room and the floor swept. All the clutter from the dining room table aka my desk would get swooshed into a large shopping bag. That’s about it. The rest is tidy enough for company.

Good morning, everyone! The walking alarm went off shortly before five this morning, I checked the temperature - 85ºF. At five in the morning. I said “fuck that” and climbed back in my nice, cool bed. Breakfast was French toast with the remnants of the baguette from last night.

I have my counseling this Wednesday and the Endocrinologist next Monday. I’ve asked my counsellor for a letter for the Endo, so we’ll go over that on Wednesday. I expect I’ll be an emotional wreck Wednesday afternoon.

The heat index has been unreal the last couple of weeks. I finally put the insulated curtain back at the top of the basement stairs. There isn’t a door to the basement, so all the cool air from the top and main floor flows down here. We started putting an insulated curtain at the top of the stairs a couple of years ago, and that has made a world of difference in Mrs Magill’s office. It has also made a huge difference down here, but that’s why we have fans.

If someone were to be over in an hour, they should expect to see a lot of shut doors to various bedrooms and offices, but the flat surfaces will be cleared, and food and drink will be ready. I’ll remember to vacuum after they’ve left.

You have got to be so proud of her.

You’re just an ursine delinquent.
