President Biden Dropping Out of Race

I think you mean Trump and Harris, right? That was, it was reported, the dynamic with Trump and Biden, with Biden seeming to be “hated” because of his age. I don’t think it’s clear that that dynamic will be in place with Trump and Harris.

For me, of course, it has nothing to do with her capabilities. Why I like it is that it affirms that we as a society are rejecting white supremacy and misogyny and agreeing that anyone can do this kind of job. At the same time, it smacks said white supremacists upside the head with a 2 x 4 and tells them that their sick fantasies are not going to be realized. I.e., it demoralizes them.

Joy Reid is saying that white democrats are pushing out Joe and most blacks oppose it.

That was my experience with my father. He was doing well for a man of advanced age. And then suddenly he wasn’t, with dementia becoming an issue very quickly.

Libs of tik tok. Har.

I hope not. If I have to vote for that fat head I’ll be in serious therapy.

Yes. Sorry to hear it. I’m sure it was hard for you. It was for me.

Yes, sorry. I just fixed it in the post with an EDIT note.

Apparently Obama was part of the chorus, no? Black people not liking the situation is understandable; their refusing to support Harris, which has not been demonstrated, would not be understandable.

That video was made before Biden’s announcement. Libs of Tick Tock (a right wing group) likely posted it to try to sew division.

It seems a good bet that Obama will endorse Harris. He is taking his time though.

It’s Sunday. There’s no rush. His endorsement will come more than soon enough.

Thanks. I’m sure it was difficult for you as well.

Somewhere, I like to imagine that John McCain is saying “Now that’s what I call a game changer!”

I’ve seen it pointed out on TV…Biden was instrumental in getting the first Black man elected president, and he may prove instrumental in getting the first black woman elected president. And in the interim had a hugely successful term as president himself.

He’s going to have quite the historic legacy.

Joe has Covid, maybe he’s having a bad few days.

What if he wakes up tomorrow feeling better and says he changed his mind and is getting back in the race?

You aren’t any more wrong now than you were then.
You are just the same amount of wrong, updated.

“No Backsies!”

Well Obama is very smart. He could be delaying in case Michelle might want a shot.

According to the first poll on this I found, not quite true. 49 percent of Black Democrats wanted Joe to drop out, and 50 percent wanted him to stay in. So – not quite “most.”

The poll does show white Democrats, before the fact, were more likely to want Joe to drop out than Black Democrats. But so what? Pivoting to a candidate who happens to be Black (yes I am slightly old fashioned here) is not a racist move.

I think a second Trump term risks disaster. If Harris wins by doing well with white voters, while she does a smidgen less fabulously than Biden did, in 2020, with Black voters, that’s interesting. But all I care about is to avert the disaster.

There’s a better chance of me becoming the Democratic nominee than Michelle “wanting a shot”.

Both Barack and Michelle, being smart, know that Michelle is unqualified to be POTUS due to lack of political experience. This wouldn’t stop a Republican, but they are Democrats.
