President Biden Dropping Out of Race

That is awsome.

Haven’t you heard? Joe Biden is dead.

I’m 63 and most evenings I’m asleep on the couch by the 3rd inning of the Phillies game. By the time I’m 81 I expect to go to bed for the night a half hour after I get up.

Now that the burden of responsibility for winning the election is off his shoulders, this is possible.

Tomorrow night, he needs to convince centrist voters that he dropped out because, due to his mental state, now, and especially in the future, Kamala Harris will be better for America. If people think the only reason he dropped out was to change the election result, that will look fine to Democratic Party loyalists but manipulative to others.

If he really dropped out because he had a cold on the debate night that gave Trump a polling bounce, that was, from a median voter POV, a fraud on the American people. The only justifiable reason is that he has a progressive condition such that the world would be better off with a different president.

The complaint was filed with the FEC – which is split evenly between 3 Democratic and 3 Republican commissioners and can’t do shit unless 4 commissioners agree. In the meantime, Harris will control the money until and unless the courts step in.

No, not due to his mental state- due to his health. He just caught Covid. Perfect excuse.

He needs to convince the country… no strike that. He needs to convince those who are willing to listen that he is healthy enough to be president now. That’s job one. Explain how campaigning for president is a full time job. He has lost a step but he’s able to do his main job. He’s just not able to have two full time jobs anymore and being president is the most important thing for him and the country.

I just hope hes healthy and alright.

Would it be a good strategy to tap that money first and spend it down as much as possible? Or should she use the money raised directly by her first and leave that Biden/Harris money alone until she gets the okay from the FEC?

I’m actually curious where the tens of millions of dollars that Harris claims to have raised in the last couple days has been going. Is it going into the formerly Biden/currently Harris presidential campaign committee, the DNC, one or more PACs, etc.?

Amusing, but the several octogenarians I know or am related to stay up later than I do.

He’s not stepping down and nobody’s going to invoke the 25th. The GOP can continue to whine, but nobody has any leverage on Biden, not anymore. Maybe Comer can dust off his notes.

It’s been a very transparent and public discussion that the motivation to get him to step aside was in order to have a better chance to win the election. His position publicly was that he is well enough. The general understanding is that he stepped aside despite that belief because beating Trump is that important.

He should not change that story now. He should be as strong as he can be, and campaign for Harris as vigorously as he can.

Sorry, she’ll have to be content with the “proof of life” she elicited from her date to see the Beetlejuice musical.

Nate Silver (fwiw) had a similar game-theory analysis of the early debate timing. Of course, he has been on the “Biden should drop out” bandwagon for longer than most.

A quote from that article (which was mainly about how moving the debate earlier made it possible that if it went poorly the memory would fade by the election):

It was that photo of Biden barefoot that made her suspicious, right? (If you get that reference, then you are almost Biden’s age.)

The question is, what would she accept as proof of life? On second thought, don’t answer that.

No, I don’t think this is a “median voter” point of view. I think this is a “you” point of view that you are are extrapolating (with no evidence whatsoever) out to median voters. I suspect there are vanishing few non-GOP members who would agree.

You know, for someone they’re supposed to be running against, Republicans sure seem to want Kamala Harris to become president.
