And he’s really good at expressing the non-facts and non-cogent arguments nonsensically. I call it “stream of unconsciousness.”
I watched the speech.
First-he looked terrible. I think he may be suffering the effects of Covid. He read slowly and stuttered but did not appear confused.
Second, he was clearly trying to make it an address to the whole country and not a campaign speech for Harris without denying the fact that he stepped down to give her a chance to win.
Third, he still wants the job and thinks he could have done it but stepped down for the sake of the country. That makes me respect him even more.
Fourth, I think I deserve a little credit for writing parts of that speech. In my deluded brain he clearly read my post about what he should say:
-wants everybody to have the right to Life Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness
-only in America can a regular guy from Scranton, PA become president
I think the speech reads better than it sounded. After seeing him I am glad he stepped down. IAs I have said before, I think he can govern now but if this is how much he has aged in the past four years, I dread what another four years in the job will do to him.
It would be unseemly…not to mention, illegal…to give a campaign speech from the Oval Office. I thought he threaded that needle pretty well.
Didn’t the Supreme Court just decide that speeches are official acts of the presidency, and that such official acts are legal by definition?
Huh, interesting… but,
He has nearly total immunity for official acts and he is a lame duck president now. He can do whatever the hell he wants.
I don’t know what there is to do, but he should just do whatever he thinks he is best, offer tons of executive orders, and work to make sure our 2024 election is fair and every vote is counted.
While that sounds absurd, per the recent ruling I’m pretty confident you’re 100% correct.
It’s going to be difficult to remember this.
“Donald, now that I’m out of the race, let’s put our disagreements behind us. Come on over to the White House for dinner. It would be a Major disappointment if you couldn’t.”
Are you saying Biden wants to have trump for dinner? Snerk
Please no. I don’t want President Biden or Major sick.
Would it be in poor taste to start selling orange, ear-shaped chew toys?
Or a special edition ear-shaped circus peanut.
Actually, I would put it past Trump to do such a thing and charge an exorbitant amount for it.
“These Democrats seem to keep shooting themselves in the foot don’t they.”
“The menu will be inspired by your dear friend Hannibal Lecter”
Ooooo, good one!
That is both extremely dated and a good testament to how long Biden has been around. Was he running for president in, I’m guessing, 1988?
He was. He dropped out of the campaign in September of '87, when incidents of plagiarism (in his campaign speeches, and an incident when he was in law school) came to light.
We finally have some battle ground polls. Harris trails but is one or two points better than Briden was doing.
By The Hill’s metric, it’s Trump 47.7/Harris 45.7. Trump had been as high as 60 against Biden in the last month.
