President Biden Dropping Out of Race

I dont know about that. I’d rather see her go hard after his criminality, sexual assault, insurrection and fraudulent past. Going after a person’s frailty and physical fitness (even Trump’s) has the potential to backfire.

I say all of the above.

It is, but we only have until the DNC to re-coalesce. That’s less than a month, unless they move it.

I take a short power nap and bam this happens. I wonder how much this announcement was timed to in regard to the GOP convention in order to chase Trump off the TV for a week or so.

No shit. I was responding to what would happen if he did

No, she should totally go after his age. That was the whole point of getting Biden to drop out. The tables have turned and now age becomes the D’s biggest argument rather than the R’s. Plus, it would be fun to see Trumpers squirm after they harped on Biden’s age for years.

I’m going to save this comment, just in case a tell all political book is released in the next 2-5 years saying this was the case.

Hey guys, remember a few weeks ago when we were speculating about the Republicans having an open convention because Trump was slipping? Good times. . . .

Democrats fall in love. Republicans fall in line.

Uh, no.

Not this time.

Pretty please.

I’m All In For Kamala. I have to hope that there are a relatively significant number of independents (including the venerated ‘double haters’) who find nothing noteworthy and insurmountable to dislike about Harris, and take this opportunity to let their latent MAGA-hater flags fly.

Good luck Harris. I’ve said it before and I’ll repeat. Please use your skills as a prosecutor to viscously attack Trump, put him on trial, and give everyone a show. …but you know what. Just win. Winning is good enough.

With any sort of luck something will make Trump drop out too and we’ll get a real barn burner with candidates that have a chance of out living me.

Going on age alone isn’t good. But she maybe could thread the needle. Since Biden dropped out after having actual mental issues, she’s free to point out the ones everyone’s been point out about Trump.

I’ve been waiting for people to point out that Trump mixed up Haley and Pelosi so many times.

Heads you win, tails nobody cares enough to remember.

I’d rather she go after his Project 2025 vision of the future and the threat of further assaults on women’s rights and reproductive choices. And contrast it to a different vision that she represents.

Let your VP running mate and other surrogates be the main attack dogs on Trump’s dishonesty, criminality, and general confused state.

Everyone should remember that this decision almost certainly happened behind the scenes and days ago. And probably with the knowledge of most senior Democrats (Biden, Obama, Pelosi, Schumer, Jeffries). They probably agreed upon a plan and path forward to nominating Harris. Sure, delegates are free to vote for whom they want, but they are by definition loyal Democrats, and if the whole party signals Harris is the nominee, most will probably go along with it.

There may be a token contest, just to pretend this wasn’t already decided. Maybe a few Democratic bank benchers challenge for the nomination. But I think this is decided and pretty much over, and the next few weeks will make that clear.

And we could see the Trumpers squirm even more if Harris picks an actually-successful businessman for VP. (I’ve suggested Mark Cuban, not really as a joke.) Imagine Trump being blasted for being the epically inept “businessman” that he is.

But I concede it’s far more likely that a governor is chosen as VP.

As for Biden (to get back on track): it is so supremely sad that it had to go this way. I have a feeling that his family members, at least, knew that he was slipping, and just hoped that by avoiding press conferences and limiting all public appearances—and given that he was opposing a guy who might have been in prison if all had gone more according to rule-of-law—they thought they could get by. They thought that Joe could manage to avoid public embarrassments and win against the convicted criminal.

But their taking that chance condemned Joe to this period of humiliation and anger. It took away his dignity.

I’m not saying it was all his wife and sister and other family members. It was Joe, too. But they all let themselves believe things that weren’t true, and now they’re paying a price.

I hope that history will glide over this period and just highlight his achievements, instead.

Buttigieg for VP?

Try that here:

Is anything hinky (well, more so than usual) going to happen with the ballots in Ohio? Remember the legislature was going to keep Biden off the ballot because the Democratic convention was after the mandated date for submission of candidates. Some sort of ad hoc deal got made that seemed to avoid a crisis, but will Biden’s withdrawal cause this issue to surface again?

If the Ohio GOP was serious about leaving the Democratic ticket off the ballot, they wouldn’t have fixed the last technicality. Ohio is a long shot for Dems, anyway, so Republicans probably have more to lose than gain by any shenanigans.
