Having so long denied that it was a big deal, I guess he’s about to find out.
I think there are at least two threads about this already.
Thanks, but I saw none in TQZ.
Here’s one. It’s also mentioned in the Breaking News thread.
Since the OP of the other thread had political commentary and a non-descriptive title, I closed it. Let’s restrict this as much as possible to discussion of the disease itself. Political commentary should go in this thread in Politics and Elections.
" President Donald Trump arrived Friday evening at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center, where the White House says he will remain hospitalized for “the next few days.”"
" In a statement, the President’s spokeswoman said Trump “remains in good spirits, has mild symptoms, and has been working throughout the day.”
“Out of an abundance of caution, and at the recommendation of his physician and medical experts, the President will be working from the presidential offices at Walter Reed for the next few days,” press secretary Kayleigh McEnany said."
Doesn’t this double standard make you angry? The President has some mild symptoms and they put him in a hospital while another 7 or so million Americans (out of 7 1/2 million cases) also have mild symptoms and they don’t bother to put them in the hospital.
Well, no. Just like everyone else doesn’t get a Secret Service detail and private aircraft on standby to get around on. Whatever Trump’s personal failings, the office rightly comes with certain privileges.
The newspapers say so far his case looks mild but his age and weight put him at high risk. If he is put on a ventilator, is that enough to trigger the 25th Amendment? (I don’t think that’s a political question.)
If you mean, will it trigger his removal from office, I think not. If you mean, will it trigger the temporary transfer of power to Pence, it’s possible depending on the treatment and its effects.
I think a permanent transfer would require that Pence and the Cabinet determine that Trump will either not recover at all or will be unable to execute his duties even if he does recover. And that’s not a given.
Actually, I was thinking of a temporary transfer of power. Can the POTUS (any POTUS) govern while on a ventilator? Often this involves being sedated.
I don’t know, but this topic is probably better addressed in the Politics and Elections forum. (I am not a mod, nor do I play one on TV or in my daydreams.)
A request to the mods - with something fast moving like this, if we’re going to have a separate thread in Quarantine Zone where we don’t want political discussion, could you make the thread title a bit different to make it a bit clearer which thread we’re in? The two thread titles are almost exactly the same, and many of us look at “Latest” rather than via the subforums.
This discussion belongs in Politics and Elections.
We’ll see how this goes. I know with the president involved politics is somewhat inherent. Let’s try to keep this about the medical side of things.
The stay at Walter Reed, rumor has it, is to be able to better monitor and react to the experimental antibody drug Trump got.
The President’s physician says Mr Trump is “fatigued but in good spirits” after being treated with an experimental antibody cocktail.
Q. Why would the initial treatment offered to POTUS be an experimental treatment?
Wouldn’t the most efficacious variant of the standard treatment protocols be the starting point?
Several doctors I’ve seen on a variety of channels say that it is difficult to say how he is doing since there have not been the traditional briefings from his physician, and some questions have not been answered. So I doubt anyone here can assess the progression of the illness.
However it appears that Melania has a milder case, and she is less at risk.
Where does this confirmed case get counted on sites like worldometer, Florida or D.C.?
I would expect DC, since the superspreader event probably happened there. I’ve heard of at least 9 people testing positive in this outbreak and it’s likely there’s more.
