From the “belief w/o evidence” thread, where I asked for the likeliest explanations yet offered. Trump had an amazingly short bout of “Covid” and a fast full recovery, so people doubted he was treated for Covid at all. Also, he went to the same hospital months earlier, in a seemingly unplanned visit, to be treated for something that I never really understood: benign explanations were given, as I recall, but none of them satisfied me as to why he would go to the hospital in such a rush if it were planned for weeks in advance. Has anyone come up with satisfying explanations, apart from the official ones (for which my default is “probably a lie”)?
Googling I find a “now revealed” video from CNN, which I’m not going to watch because videos are stupid, and an article saying Stephanie Grisham’s book states it was for a colonoscopy. I find it entirely plausible that Trump would refuse to do it under anesthesia if that meant officially handing the reins to Pence for even a second, and would also refuse to give the public information about a perfectly normal procedure because his thin-skinnedness wouldn’t be able to handle any jokes about his ass.
They don’t do colonoscopies under anesthesia. They use sedation instead (an anesthesiologist huffily told me there was a difference).
Note the article dates the visit to 2019; Covid wasn’t a thing at that point.
Call it what you will, when I had a colonoscopy last year I was unconscious for about 45 minutes and groggy for 15 minutes more. It was delivered by an anesthesiologist.
Both are done by anesthesiologists. When I had mine last month, they called it sedation. I noted it specifically because I’d been alerted to it when I did have surgery.
Does the word matter? If Russia launched a missile, either way he would not be in a position to issue an order a counter-strike. Power would need to be temporarily transferred to the VP while POTUS was incapacitated.
The simple explanation for why he was at the hospital only briefly is that they endeavored greatly to keep him out of the hospital for political reasons.
Trump’s claim was that Covid was no big deal, so having him in the hospital for a long time is bad optics. I’m sure they brought as much of the hospital to him as they could until they really couldn’t anymore.
It does t really matter, because Trump refused to be sedated.
He said “it sounds like a lot of fun and I’ve always been curious. Why in the hell would I want to sleep through a guilt-free journey of anal stimulation? Mike’s tongue feels really good, but sometimes I want more.”
No, not really but he did refuse sedation because he’s a paranoid control freak that would’ve had to sign the presidency over to Pence for about 15 minutes. It goes deeply against his core philosophy of not giving up anything without getting something in return.
Sure, it was my conspiracy theory that started this thread and now you go and throw facts at it. I could have sworn the visit was at night rather than during the day, that’s why it was so unusual. All the pics show daylight.
Different events. This was the first mysterious trip. The covid CT is that it was a cover for whatever he was in hospital for in November 2019 happened again.
If the colonoscopy is a true story, I expect this is right.
My real in head CT is that Trump suffered mini-strokes, thus his shaking hands and speech problems. I’ll have to work on a way to get the competency test in there too.
I heard his former Apprentice handler Noel Casler speculate on a Podcast last week that the issue was that Trump got some particularly good drugs from his pal Chuck Zito (Hell’s Angels EC boss) while on a visit to NYC two weeks before, and that messed with his “health.”
There are pics of Trump and Zito in the crowd at MSG from Nov 2019, and Casler tells a story of how he was told by the Secret Service that someone on the crew of a band playing for a prior President had to be let off for the night because he had an old prior and the SS couldn’t take the chance. He thought it odd that Zito could get so close to Trump.
Zito seems like a nice guy. I can see where Trump would think it was cool to hang out a bit and get his pic taken with a Hells Angel, but I can’t see him purposefully taking drugs. AFAIK, everyone that knows him says he’s a teetotaller on alcohol or drugs. Hell, his fevered imagination is probably better than being on most drugs.
Well I’ve had two colonoscopies and I was really only incapacitated due to a tube up my ass. There might have been some sedation to relax things a bit but in both cases I was fully conscious and watching the view on the monitor. So in this case I think the word does make a difference.
Regarding the OP, I question it because almost everything Trump said was dishonest or fabricated to suit some agenda of his. Though I am not a conspiracy theorist, in his case I could see him wasting tax money and using Walter Reed as some sort of spa for a few days, so that he could emerge like a phoenix from the flames blah blah blah.
My initial guess as to Trump’s hospitalization (the second time, for Covid, not the first mysterious midnight run): I didn’t doubt that he actually had Covid. There was a known outbreak at the White House.
I question how severe it was. My guess was that he got a very mild case, perhaps just barely symptomatic. But, being president, he got rushed to the hospital for some very intensive care, the like of which us peons would never have gotten for a mild case. So it sounded like he had a severe case, but he didn’t. And then he got out of the hospital, seemingly not very sick at all, after just a few days.
But then, long afterward, stories started appearing in the news about how seriously sick he was and how critically low his blood oxygen got. That seemed odd, and inconsistent with the fact that he was out of the hospital and back on the job in just a few days.
It all made him seem very Rasputin-like.
The president does not have to abide by the Secret Service and their recommendations for security. It’s dumb not to but it’s the presidents call. Doubtful Chuck Zito is any kind of threat. He’s been The Hollywood version of a Hells Angel for a long time.
Not much would surprise me about Trump but finding out he did drugs would surprise the hell out of me. I’ve never seen any indication that he is anything other than a teetotaler. From what I understand his brothers abuses and death greatly affected him.

That’s what I always read also. Looks a bit like his sons chose another path. Scary thought of the day: A drunken, coked up Trump in charge of anything.

I remember that, and it certainly doesn’t jibe with the fake signing papers photos, but I wonder if that wasn’t something released thru the White House. I’d have to go back and look.
Huh, I’m actually surprised so many of this crowd seem to think he’s an actual all-around teetotaler, especially given the crowds he has run with over the years. He definitely strikes me as the kind of guy who will profess total abstinence in public and be deep into hookers and blow in private. I’d certainly buy that he’s slowed down over the years, but he’s really looked to me like a cokehead several times, particularly during his first presidential campaign.
Like, “Did they find his head up there?”
People said the same thing when Bush 2.0 and Obama got scoped.

When Bush 2.0 got scoped, people were asking if maybe they’d find the Constitution up there.
