President Joe Biden and the runup to the 2024 election

An article that may strike a chord with some here:

Good point. Trump campaign money (and likely GOP campaign money in general) will be prioritized firstly to personally help Trump (i.e. pay his legal bills, give money to various Trump enterprises and family/associates), and secondly to help elect Trump. And the first part will probably take the lion’s share.

While not dispositive, this political analyst expresses some reasonable skepticism regarding some of the NYT/Siena poll’s findings.

This line from your article rings true to me.

Trump has lost support from Republicans and Biden has lost support from Democrats, and there are eight months to go for each side to try and win them back and to turn out their respective bases.

That seems to meet the eyeball test to me. I think that’s what this election will come down to, assuming no major developments between now and election day. (Which is a huge assumption, I admit.)

Sorry, as I’ve said elsewhere, I just don’t believe that 10%. At best, it might be indicative of efforts needed in specific regions or swing states. But I do not believe this reflects any sort of larger reality, nationally or otherwise. That does lead me to wonder about the rest of it.

I just don’t believe in Trump’s magical immunity from anything and everything.

And even there, the use of “superfan” in the headline strikes me as deliberately dismissive and/or belittling.

Is it my imagination, or has the New York Times been carrying A LOT of water for Biden’s opponent? Did anything of note happen with their ownership, editorial board, or anything like that?

IMHO, imagination.

Media content analysis requires rigorous statistical methods. Absent that, objectivity is impossible. Problem is, we remember the articles we disagree with more than those we like.

Does there get to a point where you don’t need a quantitative methods PhD to realize a media outlet is pro-Republican or pro-Democratic? On the editorial page, yes. If cycle after cycle, they endorse the Republican, that’s a Republican paper. But straight news coverage is impossible to fairly categorize without running numbers.

Another thing to remember about polls, is that as much as they are about responding about who you are actually going to vote for, they are also seen as a way to virtue signal and send a message.

Many liberal voters are upset about the way that Biden is handling the Gaza conflict. They may be upset enough that they will say to a pollster that they are going to vote for Trump next year, since they hope that this will spur Biden change his policy, or convince the Democrats to run somebody else.

However once it becomes clear that, no Biden and Trump are the only games in town, and while Biden might not be pushing back against Netanyahu as much as they would like, Trump would offer whole hearted support for palestinian extermination.

I can’t speak to your second question but as to the first one I would agree the NYT has seemed disturbingly focused on President Biden’s age more and more. The recent Ezra Klein piece in particular was disappointing. I can’t farhom why they would be shilling for DJT but it seems like that is what they are doing more and more. I would be shocked if they were manipulating this poll but they are definitely harping on all the negative aspects of it.

I just noticed that I didn’t finish my final sentence

Should be:
However once it becomes clear that, no, Biden and Trump are the only games in town, and while Biden might not be pushing back against Netanyahu as much as they would like, Trump would offer whole-hearted support for palestinian extermination, they will virtue signal (and hopefully vote for) Biden.

I hope you are correct but in my experience most younger progressive voters believe Israel is always evil and Palestinians are always innocent victims. I think it more likely those who have this worldview just won’t turnout. I don’t really see them going to DJT.

They think a Trump presidency will make more money, and in today’s “a corporation’s only obligation is to the shareholders” business world, making the line go up trumps truth and good journalism.

Nah, I’m not buying it quite yet.

Joe Biden’s Superfans Think the Rest of America Has Lost Its Mind

I’m no superfan of Biden but when it’s a matter of 81 years vs. 91 indictments the choice is clear and, yeah, anyone who can’t see that has lost their mind. NYT can go pound sand.

Biden, Clinton, and Obama are all set to meet at a fundraiser in New York City. That’s going to be a security and logistical nightmare I wouldn’t wish on (almost) anyone.

Sure $100,000 will get you a photo with three former and current presidents, but do you get a pair of gold sneakers?

Oh, and just because there was such a kerfuffle over it at Super Bowl time-Taylor Swift is encouraging her fans to vote, but hasn’t mentioned Biden. Yet.

But also the premise for a great comedy film.

A remake of My Fellow Americans? I like it.

Obama and Clinton have an on-going argument about who is actually the Secret President who is controlling Biden. Hillary is always in the background, rolling her eyes at the both of them.
