I think “own up to your weaknesses” is rarely a good communications strategy. “I sometimes forget the names of foreign leaders, but I didn’t forget my oath to the Constitution” may seem like a good quip but guess what part of that Republicans are going to run in attack ads.
That’s not to say a candidate can’t jujitsu a weakness, they just have to be cleverer about it. Reagan’s “I won’t use my opponent’s youth and inexperience against him” was a great line for defusing the age issue, without Reagan every saying that he was old.
The Republican House, Democratic Senate and Democratic President all signed off on the bill that will force the Chinese owners of TikTok to sell the platform or have it banned.
Sure, it’s not just Biden’s fault, but it’s not true that, “the GOP Congress did that, not Biden.” He signed the bill into law. That said, I rather doubt that outraging self-appointed Gen Z influencers (I laughed out loud at the one quoted in the article as saying, “Gen Z put Biden in office with our voices and with our platforms”) is going to have any significant impact on the election.
Biden has to worry about people who would otherwise be in his camp actually not voting for him just because he’s not who/what they really wanted or because they’ve become mildly inconvenienced or disturbed by what happens on his watch.
Meanwhile The Other Guy’s voters as far as we can tell will show up and vote for him even if it kills them.
There are some MAGA conspiracy theorists on Xwitter who are saying that Biden won’t be the nominee. They’re predicting that he’ll be replaced at the convention. Most are saying that it’ll be either Gavin Newsome or Michelle Obama.
Since the purpose of a convention is to choose a nominee, I’m not seeing much of a conspiracy needed here. “Convention chooses a nominee” is hardly a surprise outcome.
I think it’s the “Michelle Obama” part that puts it over the top. They’ve been obsessing for years over her, and how the Democrats are secretly planning some kind of Obama Dynasty built around her, even though there’s literally nothing to suggest that she, or anyone else in the party, is interested in any such thing.
But they have so much invested in hating the “Obama” name that they just can’t let it go.
Absent his death or unexpectedly declaring he will not accept the nomination, it would be very surprising if the Democratic convention nominated someone besides Joe Biden.
If your only schtick is playing to the cheap seats for applause, never quit beating any particular dead horse until the audience quits cheering when you do. See also “woke”, although that one more current than “Obama”. “COVID” still works in a pinch for them.
We haven’t heard much about “Whitewater” in awhile; I guess the audience finally moved on over that one.
