It isn’t just MAGAts who have wild fantasies about Michelle Obama running, there are plenty of folks on the left who have suggested something similar. And that includes multiple left leaning posters on these boards.
I never bought this dictum. Lincoln, TR, FDR and JFK, among others, were all very ambitious, and did quite well in office IMHO.
And if that phrase is true, it’s a defect of human nature, not just our system, obviously.
I took @eschereal’s comment to be aimed mostly at the specific situation here in 2024, although that aphorism has been around for decades, if not centuries in one form or another.
As to @Love_Rhombus, I’ll suggest that you’re right that it is a unhelpful feature of human nature.
But since human nature is fixed, and social / political systems are mutable and designable to at least some degree, that suggests to me that the “defect” is consciously designing a system with a great susceptibility to the features of its users. There may will always be some residual susceptibility. But that can, and should, be designed around to the degree possible.
It is not steel’s “fault” that it is homogenous and strong, nor wood’s “fault” that it’s much less homogenous and much less strong. But one would be wise to know which material is to be used before specifying the size of the beam meant to hold up the roof.
Politics is maybe the only area of human endeavor where we actively despise those who seek to advance in their field.
Organized crime? I agree it’s a fine distinction.

I realize these may not be as specific as you are looking for but my point is it isn’t just people on the right saying it could/should happen. The story told by those on the right is more about the idea Biden is senile and will bow out. The folks on this board are engaging in wishful thinking.
Bob Casey, for one, has recently changed his position. I think it will work for him. but we will see. Perhaps Biden should have a meeting of religious leaders and Democrats (and even a few Republicans) who are pro-choice?

Could be. But my guess is he’ll remember that he promised Susie Wiles to end with something that polls well — maybe drilling for cheap oil vs. Biden allegedly forcing you to drive an electric car.
Biden’s in trouble and, right now I don’t see how he can get out of it. I’m overhearing, from the TV in the next room, ads saying that Trump was found to be a sexual assaulter and 34x felon. We’ll see how that works.
