But I think Trump’s primary goal is getting attention. His favorite thing about being President is going to rallies and having people yelling his name. He like having people salute him and stand up when he enters the room. He likes how anything he says gets reported on the evening news.
He’s losing all of that. For the rest of his life, he will never get the amount of attention he has received in the last four years. And he is going to hate it.
I’ve heard that he might still start the media empire that he wanted to start in 2016. Perhaps he’ll team up with One America News Network or Sinclair Broadcasting or, less likely, Fox News. Certainly he doesn’t have the resources to do this on his own.
Like the previous poster, I assume Cruise means Ted Cruz? If so, I wouldn’t worry about either of these guys. Cruz is widely hated, almost lost in Texas, and does have the weakling/loser tag at this point. Cotton is a moron. If you want to fear a sitting Senator in that vein, fear Hawley. He’s evil, but actually seems reasonably intelligent.
I think if Trump wanted the 2024 nomination he would be a strong contender. This election was close and many Republicans will believe him that he was robbed.
However on balance I don’t think Trump will try. He will have his hands full with assorted investigations and on the plus side he will have a shot at becoming a right-wing media mogul. I doubt he will want to subject himself to another grinding primary and possible general election at his age.
'twouldn’t shock me if he ordered the security guards at Mar-A-Lago to start dressing in pseudo-military uniforms and salute him. Fortunately, the Secret Service agents stuck with Trump will be wearing sunglasses so their eye-rolling won’t be obvious.
Latest news is that he is creating a PAC that can take in unlimited $5,000 donations. It’s so he can support candidates of his choosing, who deserve a chance to make America great… . . . . . .hahahahahahahahahahaha! Oh, my. . . . . .hahahahahaha! It is, of course, so he has a slush fund to fuel his jet to fly to his golf courses for “political conferences” Trump does nothing for the benefit of anyone but himself.
I wouldn’t bet on him having too many golf courses after this all shakes down. Too many creditors and no legal protection from being Prez. Those suckers are going to get foreclosed on in a heartbeat, especially the Scottish ones.
I’m British and not overly familiar with US politics, so this may be a very dumb question, but I was pondering 2024 today and this thought occurred to me: Trump doesn’t have to run as a Republican, does he? Suppose he took the position that, if the Republicans didn’t select him, he would run as an independent. That would presumably have the potential to at least split the Republican vote - in which case would they decide they were better off with him inside the tent pissing out, instead of outside the tent pissing in?*
OK, key US-UK difference that I did know of but didn’t think through - thanks. Am I right in understanding that this means that anyone can stand for GOP (or Dem) nomination without consulting (or even notifying?) party leaders?

PS: from where I’m sitting, I appear (in your post) to have morphed into panache45. How odd.
Yeah, if he wants to run, and he’s still cogent and healthy enough to run, he can run as a Republican again. I don’t believe his health will hold up. He’s old, obese, and in poor condition. He’s also probably heading down the alzheimer’s slope. I just don’t see him being up to it in 4 years.
Correct. Ballot access requirements are here. There is nothing like the British Labour requirement to gain support from 35 (if that is still the right number) MP’s in order to participate in a closed primary. Instead, here you need to pay a fee and submit a certain number of nominating petition signatures. Many Americans will sign any such petition on grounds of allowing maximum choice.
Just tell him that you can’t be elected president more than twice and that, therefore, running in 2024 would constitute an admission that he lost in 2020.
Even if it does hold up, he might prefer to pass on the hard work of autocratic consolidation to one of his children. Ivanka’s supposed to be his favorite, but I think Trump Jr. would, as a Christian, have a better chance. DJT might agree with me on that.
A little insight into Trump’s relationship with his children. Donald Trump has always been adamant about not letting people call him Donny. He said Donny is a child’s name and nobody would ever have respect for a man who let other people call him by a child’s name like Donny. He ordered people to call him Donald.
I think Trump is going to take a page from another one-term president, and put all of his energy into a charity and into election monitoring.
Now, before you all keel over in laughter, no, I don’t expect him to start working with Habitat for Humanity (that image is pretty damned funny!). No, Trump is going to create his own charity - a bigly charity. Again, I know what your first objection is - he isn’t allowed to. I believe he isn’t allowed to run a charity in New York, and he doesn’t live in New York anyway, so his new charity will be based in Florida. Every donation you make to the Donald Trump Keep Elections Fair goes to pay for a Trump family member to monitor elections in places known for chicanery, like Michigan, Ohio, Pennsylvania, or to help pay for lawsuits on voting fraud, real or imagined.*
*please note that the first *50,000 of any donation goes to help pay down business losses by the Trump Family; the next $50,000 pays for salaries within the organization, and anything left after that will mostly go towards 5-star hotel rooms and lawyers fees (Rudy’s got to get his piece).
I hope he does. I’d love to see Trump go bankrupt again. Everything he touches turns to shit. A “media empire” will last about 18 months, or less if the insiders loot the place first, or indictments come down for the criminal staff.
