Prime Day 2020

Welp, I usually start a Prime Day thread every year so I figure I’d start one today. Usually it’s in July but this year it’s Oct 13-14.

I haven’t really had my eye on anything and didn’t look too hard at deals. But usually throughout the day I do end up finding stuff that people point out to me that is too good to pass up.

Ok I have actually had my eye on this Venture Bros. book since it came out. Now it’s down to $32.53 from $39.99 (I swear it was $45 when it first came out) AND there’s a $6.20 coupon, so I snatched that up this morning.

There was a Shark vacuum, NV752, that was on sale and my mom had actually been looking to buy it, so it was a nice surprise that I saw it. Looks like it’s already sold out! It was quite a good deal, especially for someone who was already looking to buy it.

There’s this page that has “buy 3 for the price of 2.” I haven’t tried it yet.

What’d ya get?

Got a couple of Echo dots for $18 a piece.

This is my first PD, so baby steps I guess.

Echo dot + smart switch for only $5 more.
Or smart switch alone $5 is you have Alexa already and tell Alexa to order it.

The Amazon switches are clunkier in size than other brands, but usually expensive at $25 each. I trust their reliability and safety more.

I was able to get a smart plug for 99 cents a few weeks ago when they had a promotion. Great promotion for trying it out! I woulda gotten another one for $5 in a heartbeat, but Alexa just informed me that the deal is sold out :frowning:

Best Buy was matching Amazon prices on most things. I needed new headphones, walked in and got some high-end wireless Sennheisers for $50 off, then went with my wife to have an outdoor dinner. More fun than doing it online.

No special deal, but I had $20 in small-business purchase credit, which I spent on a large bandana and the book Advice for Future Corpses.

I found a couple of obscure books that had been marked down to ridiculously low prices, about $5 each. I assume they were probably the last copies in stock and they just wanted to move them out.

They had a sale on razor blades, so I bought 15 for about $23. One of these days life will return to normal with daily shaves

Kinda like susan, I had a small-business purchase credit (just $10 in my case) so I made sure to order my latest random-things-I-buy-from-Amazon-cuz-it-is-cheaper-or-I-can’t-get-it-locally today. I didn’t buy anything special - a new cleaning-mitt thingie for my pole that reaches into high spots, some lemon grass paste, and some “TV dinner trays” because a shared guilty pleasure for me and my partner is to jump into bed, eat dinner, and watch TV.

I thought about buying some rice noodles - they are 2.5x cheaper on Amazon than at my local grocery - but I just received 3lbs of them, so I decided not to.

How can you POSSIBLY have “prime day” in October? It makes no sense. Why not wait until November like any reasonable interpretation of the original meaning of “prime day”?

What now? Prime Day is usually in July.

Logic dictates that it ought to be in March.

You’re thinking of Pi Day

There was a really good deal on some luggage and I really need new luggage. But I can’t imagine getting on an airplane any time soon. I passed.

Large pack of parchment paper for baking. New kitchen scale. And finally broke down and bought a baby Keurig.
All, IMO, necessities.

I ordered the mattress I’ve had my eye on since July. I also picked up a bp cuff for my husband. I may get a couple of bonsai kits for Xmas gifts before the day is done.

Buy the luggage and you’ll have It when you finally do get to travel. Don’t be kicking yourself later because you missed a good deal.

Yeah and the only time to buy luggage is when it’s on sale. If not flying somewhere, surely you’ll be traveling by car or train eventually

I got a 2-pack of Blueair 411 air purifiers I had already been looking at. After the last wildfire season, I wanted to get some. They normally go 2 for $229, and there was a deal for Prime members of $157, I think. I bought them as soon as I saw that.

I picked up a couple of other odds and ends. USB C charging cords, as we’re constantly losing them. I’ll probably grab a couple more things, but nothing big.

I’ve been sorta half-assedly collecting the Game of Thrones-whisky series, and they’d marked down most of them, so I got the House Stark one (Dalwhinnie Winter’s Frost, probably equivalent to their Winter’s Gold), as well as a Highland Park 12y old. Current price for both would be 82.07€, I paid 61.98€.
