Prime Day 2021

Starting this thread 'cuz I’ve started it every year since Prime Day began. I haven’t done much work looking for deals yet today. I had a couple things in my cart that I need and they’re not on sale, but I’ll nab the $10 credit for buying a $40+ gift card (coupon code GCPRIME2021) and apply it to my cart.

Also note that Wal Mart and Target have their similar deals going on today, too.

Let us know what you find!

(NB: Please don’t use this thread to complain about Amazon or Jeff Bezos. This is just about Prime Day deals.)

I just ordered a couple of external hard drives from Best Buy at the best price they’ve had in a while, so I suspect they’re also offering deals to compete with Amazon Prime Day. (And their website talks about a “flash sale”.)

I’m back from my expedition. Bought some stuff I’d been meaning to buy anyway but was waiting for my credit card statement to roll over, which nicely coincided with Prime Day.

I used my Honey browser add-on to check item price changes, which is pretty useful on Prime Day because you can see what is actually on sale and what had its price jacked up recently in anticipation of Prime Day.

The best thing I got, that I was actually waiting for on Prime Day, was a 6-pack of these solar lights. I bought similar lights in 2016 and they’re still going great. They let me see where the dogs are in my massive backyard, and I think they also keep the skunks away.

I got this acrylic paint set to replenish my acrylic paint stock. I keep them around for the kids to play with and every so often it comes in handy to have paint around the house. Not a huge savings but less than $1 a bottle is pretty good.

I get 6% cash back on these purchases from my Amazon CC instead of 5%.

Do they have a deal on a Prime membership (discount) on Prime Days? I just went to the website and couldn’t find any info on it.

Today is June 21, 2021, or 20210621.
That is not prime. It is 37 x 546233.

Not that I know of. They MIGHT have had a deal leading up to Prime Day, I kinda feel like I remember reading that…but they don’t have discounted Prime for Prime Day.

Here’s an article with ways to get discounted Prime - namely, for EBT and Medicaid recipients, for students, or for everyone else you can get a free 30-day trial, or sign up for a month of Prime at a time.

Thanks!

I bought the DVD collection of Rocky and Bullwinkle.

Awesome. That’s exactly the kind of thing Prime Day was made for!

I rented Minari for $2.99 (Regular price $5.99). I was planning on watching it anyway, and they give you 30 days to start watching it.

Then I bought a pair of binoculars on impulse. They’re not something I use often, but when I do I wish I had better ones. I’ve got a pair of big, bulky ones that were hand-me-downs from my parents, which are annoying to carry while hiking. I also have a pair of really cheap compact ones but the optics aren’t so great. Hopefully these will be a happy medium. They were one of those “lightning deals”, so I only had an hour or so to decide. That’s how they get you to make impulse buys.

I got a Jackery 240 power station. With the prime sale price and my $10 credit it ended up being $50 off list price.

If you’re in the market for a cheap/pretty decent tablet, their Fire HDs are selling for about 1/2 off which is a bargain. It’s easy to sideload the Google Play store on them and not have to be stuck with Amazon-only apps.

I got my mom a Fire HD 10 for this past Christmas and I thought it was a steal at $100. It’s $80 now. She uses it every day and I didn’t even have to teach her how to use it. It’s a good buy!

Also if you have an original Echo, it might be time to upgrade. I thought I didn’t need to upgrade - I thought my first-gen worked just fine - but when I got some smart light bulbs it couldn’t connect because it didn’t have the right technology. Kind of a bummer that they changed the design from a column to a ball, but the sound IS better. If you want to use Smart Home type stuff, you might need to upgrade. You also might just be OK with an Echo Dot.

I had ordered some bowls last week and with that purchase amazon gave me a $10 Prime Day credit. I bought this dash cam for $32, down from $70, and with the $10 credit I only spent $23 with tax. I’ve been looking at getting a dash cam for a while, no model in particular, but I could just never pull the trigger before.

I don’t really know anything about it, and it’s certainly got the feeling of a generic product from a more or less nameless and interchangeable Asian electronics company, but the first few pages of reviews were all good and at this price, I can afford to try it out, figure out what features I do and don’t want in a dash cam, and even if I hate this one, at least I’ll know what to look for in a better one.

The Firestick deals are really good this Primeday. I almost bought one, would have been my third though and I really don’t need it.

I bought a GPS watch that I’ve been meaning to buy, saved only $10 but cash is cash.

I bought Sackboy for PS5. It dropped to $30 at one point in the day. And then I had a $10 Prime Day credit from buying from a small business the week before… so it ended up being $20.

I bought a Columbia men’s belt. I’ve used the same belt for ~10 years and my weight has dropped such that I’ve had to carve some extra holes in it. It’s looking well past it’s best-by date at this point and the Prime Day deal took ~$5 off the Columbia belt, so I went ahead and snagged it.

Maybe I should get another. Columbia is good stuff and $14 is half of what I would pay in a local clothing store.

What I really would like to get is either a decent countertop ice cube machine or some decent ice cube trays that don’t shatter the ice when it’s extracted. I’ve not found either on sale today.

Have you thought of silicone ice trays? The cubes pop out easily, especially if you don’t overfill with water.

An example:

Ice Cube Tray with Lid 4 Pack, Easy-Release 96 Ice Tray Flexible ,LFGB Certified and BPA Free, Silicone Ice Cube Trays for Freezer,Cocktail, Whiskey,Ice Trays Stackable Durable, Dishwasher Safe

We had been discussing power-washing our front walk and our driveway, because they’ve gotten black and grotty during the twenty-odd years we’ve lived here. Scrubbing with a scrub-broom does nothing. We were going to call a service to wash everything, but buying a power-washer during Prime Day looks like it’ll cost less than the service.

So a power-washer is on the way. Hope we don’t accidentally pulverize the concrete walk with it.

I did that last year, I bought a Power Washer from Amazon as it was cheaper than having someone come in. I used it to wash the vinyl siding and our cement patio was white again when I got done with it. Any further uses will be found savings as the unit has already more than paid for itself.
