Problems installing HP QuickTest Pro--has anyone used this?

For a school project, I downloaded HP Quicktest Pro 9.5 on a 14-day trial basis. The download came as an ISO file, and, not being so familiar with all these “noofangled” file formats, I did a stupid thing.

I renamed it to an .exe and tried running it from the command prompt. This was from the DVD drive.

After a bit of trouble I managed to find software to open the ISO file, and was able to see the install files. But when I try to run setup, I get an error message that a previous incomplete install has been detected, and that I should restart my computer to fix the problem. However, this doesn’t do any good.

HP is no help. I can’t find anything on the public portal that doesn’t have to do with PCs, notebooks, peripherals, and device drivers. I even tried pinging some HP folks I know in the B2B section, but they didn’t know where I should go.

Has anyone worked with this product?

I haven’t used that version, but it used to be called Mercury Quick Test Pro. That might help you search for a similar problem with the previous version.

Have you tried deleting any folders that were created by the failed install? You could also look for registry entries from the previous attempt.

Good luck, you will need it with that program.

Unfortunately I had to give up the quest. However, this was for a school project and the prof gave me an alternative topic. The upside is that completing this project will serve the purpose of studying for the final very well. On the other hand, I’m sure he’ll keep that in mind so I’ll need to meet a high standard of quality.
