Problems with Mozilla 17.b

I just downloaded Mozilla 17b and I can’t get into my Yahoo mail.

I enter my screen ID and the password and I can get to the Personal Start Page. However, I cannot access my Yahoo email. When I try to see my Inbox, I keep going back to the page where I get prompted for my email and password again. Cookies have been allowed, by the way.

How can I fix this?
Thanks

If you didn’t know, 1.7 is in beta, which means there’s still bugs to be ironed out. It’s possible you might have to go to 1.6 to solve this issue.

Head over to www.mozillazine.org and check out the forums. If they can’t help you, it will be good to let them know there is a problem.

I had to go back and install Version 1.4.1. Surely someone out there knows how to fix this?

Are you kidding me? How about this:

  1. Follow this link to the mozillazine.org forums and ask your question there. They are the Mozilla experts. Some of them write the program. If they don’t know how to fix it, no one will. “Someone out there” is over at that site.

  2. In the case that your beta build, which is for testing only and not guaranteed to work 100%, in fact doesn’t work to your satisfaction, pick another build. May I ask why you went from version 1.7b to 1.4.1? Versions 1.5 and 1.6 were stable builds, and if you ask the folks in the forum I linked to above, they will probably point you to an even more recent nightly build that is more stable than 1.7b.

In the future, stick to programs that aren’t beta if you’re not prepared for bugs. I’d recommend not doing anything deemed ‘important’ on beta software.

I didn’t realize we nearly simulposted before. Sorry if that was snarky.

  1. Just posted over at mozillazine.
  2. I have the install packs for 1.4, 1.5, 1.6 and the only one that seems to work is 1.4.1.

What OS?

Cool. The one thing they always tell you at mozillazine is to try a new profile. I’m assuming you’re installing 1.7b to a new directory, not overwriting your old. Make a new profile and see if logging in works. If it does, you can transfer some of your old profile’s files over to your new. These include: bookmarks.html, cookies.txt, cookperm.txt, signons.txt, history.dat, formhistory.dat. You can also transfer the files with 8 random charcters that match the directory name of the profile. You need to rename the 8 characters to match the 8 characters of the new profile directory. Most of the files in your Mozilla program directory are ok to transfer, it’s the stuff in the chrome directory that needs to be refreshed - most of the time. If transferring any of those files ruins your login, undo the change. That means keeping a backup of the new file or just starting a new profile.

That’s very odd you had to go back so far. I check my Yahoo mail frequently using 1.6. I think I even did with 1.7RC1, but it crashed too frequently (unrelated to Yahoo) and I went back to 1.6.

You wouldn’t have software running that affects cookies, like an ad-blocker or something like that?

Also, when you uninstalled, did you completely delete the Mozilla.org directory?

Another interesting thing to try might be to make a new profile (using 1.6 or 1.7) and see if you can access it with the new profile. The problem could be in your profile settings.

Allright, it was the profile problem that got me.

But I’m not out of the woods yet…I copied over my bookmarks file but I still haven’t been able to access my list of bookmarks. I copied over both bookmarks.html files, one in ‘C:…profile’ and the other in ‘C:…profile\US’

What am I missing?

Just to be clear. My list of bookmarks are in my Default profile, but I can’t see my bookmarks in the new profile I created.

ok forget it. I got 'em back!

Thanks for your help!
