Harmonious Discord, do you know anyone with a sewing machine? Curtains are stupifyingly easy to make (I know because I made most of mine and I am no seamstress!) So, find someone with a machine or even buy one (they have 'em for $99) and go to a fabric store and find exactly what you want. You get the idea…
I know what you mean about the glass…I originally wanted iron and glass in my living room because it is soooo small. The glass would definitely open up the room. They were very popular a few years back, but I couldn’t even find what I was looking for in the high-end stores. Alas, they are an elusive butterfly.
Yeah, my mission stuff is the warm red oak stuff you’re looking for. If I see anything in one of my “dreaming on the internet” sessions, I’ll thread ya!
Thanks, Kalhoun - I’d be delighted!
You might want to try paracord. You might be able to get it at an army navy surplus store or maybe an outdooutfitter or something like that.
I’ve got one of those, too. Last Christmas, I got a necklace with a huge plastic cross. Way bigger than anything I’d ever wear. It looks nice hanging from the rear-view mirror, however
The upholstery trim suggestion sounds like a good bet. I hadn’t thought of that. I’ve seen the hemp rope in craft stores, and I might try that if all else fails, but I’m looking for something a bit thicker. I didn’t see waxed cotton at the Michaels I visited. I’m going to have to ask if they have that. The silk cords are nice, but this is a $5 crucifix, and it seems kinda silly to spend $8, plus shipping & handling, on something to hang it from.
Don’t get me started on the picture-uploading cable! I spent $70 on that damn thing, and I’ve only used it once because the camera in my phone is so crappy, it makes your typical Loch Ness Monster photo look good. Boy did I get burned!
tiger lily: I know what you mean. I live in an apartment, and furniture that’s appropriately scaled to an apartment is pretty hard to find. I’ve been looking for a table to sit between my two living room chairs. I’d like one that’s narrow, but with a drawer in the front. My parents have a table that’s pretty much exactly what I’d like, but it came from a store that’s no longer in business. I can’t seem to find another table like it at any of the local furniture stores. I’m currently using a really rickety table that came in a kit from Target or WalMart or some place like that.
Do hardwood toothpicks exist anywhere? My husband seems to think they do – in Japan, I believe – but hasn’t been able to find any online, despite looking for years. I can’t find any, either, and I’d love to find some for him as a surprise for his birthday.
Totally random, I know. But he really wants some!
I don’t know if they will ship to you but try http://www.artswindows.com/
Bed, Bath, and Beyond sells them here. Although you’ll probably have to mortgage your house to get one.
I’ve searched all over to find 30" wide, 18" tall, 24" “over the fridge” deep kitchen cabinets.
36" wide? No problem. 15" tall? Got lots. 12" deep? The universe is clogged with those. But the magic combo of 30x18x24 is impossible unless I fork over the bucks to a custom cabinet shop.
Pepsi One.
I can’t seem to figure out how local Pepsi distributors are failing to grasp simple supply-and-demand. If you go to your local supermarket, you will see dozens of 12-packs of regular Pepsi, and no 12-packs of Pepsi One. That’s because they’ve sold out of their supply of Pepsi One. Because, and here’s where I suppose they get tripped up, people like Pepsi One and buy it. So, instead of dedicating more shelf space to Pepsi One and less to regular Pepsi, they just give the supermarket their one pallet of Pepsi One per month and say “screw you” to consumers.
It’s a constant race around here. We have three supermarkets in a two-mile radius, and on any given week, one of them will have 12-packs of Pepsi products on sale. However, they only put out about fifteen 12-packs of Pepsi One, so only five people will be able to take advantage of the sale (given the limit of three per customer). At any given time, I have two or three rainchecks in my wallet, just in case I come across a few 12-packs stashed on the back of a shelf at one of the stores.
How about Ikea?? You can buy online there as well.
I’ve been looking everywhere for glass spray bottles. I don’t think they make them. I make my own cleaning products and I wanted something a little more aesthetically pleasing than the crappy plastic bottles I’ve been using. I thought it would nice to get some glass ones and paint the outsides, but no luck.
I have a shelving unit I just love. Three shelves, blonde wood (or veneer, I don’t care) in a really neat three-sided “railing” design. Perfect size for my mounds upon mounds of videotapes. But I’ve run almost completely out of room and can’t find another one. The inordinately frustrating thing is that the unit is designed to be stackable so if I could find another one it would come with pegs to mount it to the first. But they are nowhere to be found.
11x17 frames. I know they exist. I saw them once in a store 15 years ago. I have about a half-dozen things that I would love to frame but they’re all 11x17 and I can’t find pre-made frames. And of course custom framing is horrifically expensive.
Fake lunch meat. Great to make quick sandwiches when I’m running late (which is every morning) but one grocery store after another, when I start shopping at them, discontinue stocking it. There are a couple of Whole Foods-type places in town that stock it but they are way out of my way and I never get to them. Also on that list is this amazing shredded TVP BBQ stuff that comes in a pouch (which sounds disgusting but it’s delicious) and these canned fake salisbury steaks (which sound disgusting and in fact are disgusting, but I love them).
Thanks, Maastricht, but most of their tables don’t match my furniture style. The one that comes close is… you guessed it… too big. sigh
Otto, these people have 11 x 17 frames; maybe something they have would suit you? I’ve ordered other things from them, and they can be a little slow but their product is fine.
I would love to be able to find some good double-sided adhesive tape.
I don’t mean Scotch tape; I mean thick, burly tape that will stick your hand to your own head if you need it to. The Super Glue of tape is what I need. I’ve tried body moulding tape (for cars, since that’s where I use it). But it’s too wimpy. Right now I’ve been getting by with a supply of industrial-strength Velcro, but I don’t always want the Velcro part. The advesive tape part is what I need.
None in your grocery store? I’m sure we have them. also you can try your dentist for a source; there are some wooden flossers that are toothpicks but just a little pointier.
If you don’t find any, PM me if you like. I’m pretty sure my grocery store carries them.
Would this site be of any help to you? I hear this double-sided carpet tape is the cat’s meow: http://www.findtape.com/category/tape-double-sided-carpet-tape-film-paper-tape.aspx?sid=MUjLMkqf%2FUkadcDDkpMdKLURy3DVtnFO5ZaCcODXw%2F%2FuU1MIgOcOMA%3D%3D There’s a chart that tells how strong each tape is.
My husband loves Planters nut mix with cajun flavoring. Everyone sells the sweet and salty kind, but I can’t find the cajun kind anywhere except K-Mart. And I loathe shopping at K-Mart.
The other day my co-worker asked me to order some more earmuffs for his ear buds. (You know, those little colored spongy things that cover the buds.) None of the office product stores carried them. I located them at RadioShack.com and they had them for less than $5 but they wanted me to pay $6 to ship them! I bet they weighed 5 ounces. I finally just went to my local Radio Shack and got a pair. $4.50 for 2 sets. What a freaking rip-off.
Leave it to teh Internets to come up with a whole online store for tape. Thanks, Kalhoun!
Bookshelves, with shelves spaced less than 12" apart. For pete’s sake. most of my books are six or eight inches tall. I want MORE shelves, not less! Who are these shelves for? People who only buy picture books? And why are they so DEEP? I can easily stack my books two deep on them!
