Well that was an episode full of surprises!
I really liked both of the top avant garde designs. I thought Chris and Christian’s dress was fabulous, but probably would have voted for Viktorya and Jillian’s outfit. The coat was amazing, and the stuff underneath was also really impressive.
I was sure that Ricky was going to get the auf this week, but then i remembered that Kit was the team leader, which made her exit pretty much inevitable. I must say, though, that i wasn’t as down on their main design as the judges were, although the second dress they showed was pretty bad.
Rami really acted like a bit of a dick this episode, and i tend to agree with the judges that he really hasn’t shown much range in this competition. What he does, he does well, but he doesn’t offer much variety or excitement.
I loved that long black jacket outfit! I would *so *wear that!
Or color!! Jeez, does the guy have some sort of aversion to color?
The guy should just quit this show and start his own line of beautifully draped asymmetrical evening gowns for geriatric mastectomy patients.
ALL RAMI KASHOU GOWNS ARE AVAILABLE IN RIGHT-HAND OR LEFT-HAND MODELS, DEPENDING ON WHICH SIDE YOUR PROSTHESIS IS ON!
I was so pleased that Sweet P pulled that dress off. It was really cute.
Ricky just will not die. Yeah, I think Kit deserved the aufing, but Ricky deserved it more.
I was happily surprised to see how well Christian was able to work with Chris. I think theirs was a most fortuitous teaming–costume boy with fast and meticulous construction boy.
It’s also very nice to see the affection between teammates. Yes, conflict can be entertaining, but as we’re seeing this season, so can camraderie. I liked the way they were poking fun at Elisa, but not in a nasty way at all.
Loved the C&C Fierce Factory’s outfits. They were, indeed, fierce. They deserved the win.
Team FemBot did well, not without major stress for Jillian, and icy imperiousness by Queen Victorya. The everyday dress was boring and didn’t go with the awesome trenchcoat, which is why it didn’t win, IMO. Is Jillian running low on her meds or what? Poor girl’s gonna melt down soon.
I knew Sweet P wouldn’t go because her dress actually saved the other one, so Rami owes his non-aufing to her. I hope he’s grateful and learned something from this.
As for Kit and Ricky, well, too bad Ricky wasn’t team leader, he’ve been go behind that Little Bo Peep thing made from mama’s sewing scraps on a hoop skirt. I thought one of them needed to go, and Kit overall did better work, though I agree that their styling choices this ep were very :dubious: . Ricky’s every day dress was fug. But the team leader had to go so… wave goodbye. Very sad.
Same here. As much as I normally don’t like Victorya’s work, I loved the coat. I want the coat.
What does Ricky have to do to get aufed?at least he didn’t cry this week.
It looked to me like he was crying during the model selection.
Maybe that’s because the coat was Jillian’s work, not Victorya’s. Victorya did the pants (what is avant-garde about jodphurs?) and blouse. Their second outfit, while okay, didn’t tie into the first outfit at all, whereas Christian and Chris’s clearly were part of the same design.
Rami (who I picked in my pool) was disappointing. As soon as I saw the sketches, I could tell it was going to look like another Rami dress. And he is a bit anal. Sweet Pea did a good job with her part.
I was going to post to say this. Jillian came up with and executed that fantastic coat, which definitely raises her in my mind. Also, she seemed much more… human in this challenge, while Victorya seemed smug and icy. I loved the reaction shot from Christian when Victorya said, “We actually have 3 looks, so we should win!” If looks could kill.
I thought the outfit didn’t really fit with the coat. Would you wear jodhpurs with an overcoat like that? Was it punk rock? Not really; a girl with a mohawk would not wear jodhpurs and a frilly shirt, except in VictoryaLand. Clearly Jillian carried Victorya’s ass on this one, since she also did the everday look in like, 15 minutes. It didn’t match the first look at all, but she’s got skills so it looked decent enough. In fact, aside from the coat, the look was very meh. However, I still agree that it was the second best thing to come down the runway.
Rami needs to get out of his rut. One more draped gown look and he could be out. Sweet Pea did a nice dress but her pants were ass (in the front, as La Kors said). I can at least see why she’s still in it.
Ricky needs to GO already, though. Please, let it be next week. And bring your lifeboats, because he’s going to cry us into the next Great Flood.
My favorite part of the episode:
Chris: I’m trying to build us a cell phone tower so we can call out.
Sweet P: Will it call Elisa’s home planet?
Chris: Elisa left me the instructions!
Rami’s outfit was <yawn>. What does he have against women’s left boobs? Has he made any outfit that doesn’t drape over the left boob? I was so glad Sweet P’s dress was so cute – I really didn’t want her to get auf’d based on Rami’s intransigence. I really think Rami would have been the one to go had Kit/Crybaby’s dress not been so hideous.
Of course, if you want to see really hideous avant garde stuff, check out Prada’s latest Milan show. I especially like #5.
:smack: That’s what happens when I don’t pay enough attention to the construction part of the show and mostly to the runway. The way Victorya was talking about the coat on the runway, I assumed it was her.
But now, everything makes sense. All is now right with the world. (Those jodphurs didn’t work with the coat, nor did the shirt; it was too unfitted for the sleekness that was that wonderful coat.)
In the stills, the ready-to-wear dress looks like it has some of the same silhouette as the jacket, and the asymetrical ruffle on the dress looks like the asymetrical opening of the coat. I see how you can get from one to the other.
Ok, though I don’t like Jillian, I loved the coat silhouette with that hair, I really did. I think Victoria’s equestrian punk vibe was pretty spot-on, too. I’d much rather wear the coat than C&C factory’s avant garde dress myself. But I can see why those guys won. They worked together much better and the looks were very them ad very what the judges were looking for (well, aside from the ready-to-wear, I thought that was ugly and V&J’s was much cuter, if hurried). Also, on V&J’s avant garde outfit I didn’t see the huge deal over the back of the top, and I think something was off about the whole outfit together - something was clashy about the combo of fabrics. I repeat, though, I loved the coat (well, in a PERFECT world, I’d order it for myself with a lining other than plaid, but that’s just for me). V&J’s interaction was hilarious. robotic passive-agressive hum
I adored the color and ruffles on the C&C big piece. The collar thing was very showy and framey, if I didn’t quite get the putting it off to the side entirely that’s okay. I was wondering if they should have added a little more round the hips to offset the thickness in the waist, but that was a minor thing. The model’s pose and Christian’s commentary on it was eyeroll-tastic. I still hate Christian and wish everybody would get off his nuts already. He’s like Austin except without the likeability, professionalism and dignity (and I liked Austin’s clothes way better, at least his “dated” didn’t = fug).
Sweet P’s dress was definitely my favorite ready-to-wear look. I still can’t imagine her as a badass biker at all, though, given her demeanor. Those pants on Rami’s creation were totally superfluous and stupid looking to me. Just a pair of trousers some dope put on under an evening dress. I don’t know where he was trying to go with that idea, really, he should have listened to Sweet P about the bustle instead (yes I know Sweet P made the pants, but it didn’t look like she was keen on the idea). Maybe it would have made more sense if the pants matched the dress at all (but it still wouldn’t have been exciting and couture to me). What a little bitch he was acting like (or being edited to act like, whatever), and his designs are really starting to bore me, pretty draping and all.
I feel bad for Kit but, well, her idea did fail and it was her idea. I still want Ricky to go home but not for adhering to the ‘story’ that wasn’t his idea. I don’t actually believe in giving people passes for their overall work in this, that’d be like auto-immunity (I’m sure the judges/producers exercise it whether I like it or not, though). The judges’ automatic ‘you win/lose because you’re the leader’ was totally inconsistent, though, they didn’t adhere to that in past seasons necessarily at all.
The winning dress was much more Chris’s work than Christian’s, to me, and Chris should have won. He’s my favorite left because he’s the only one I think I could stand being around, but though his point of view is clear, it’s not the most appealing to me. So I’m still at blah on everyone mode. And yet I keep watching.
Did Ricky cry this week?
I’m beginning to think Ricky might have to attack Nina with scissors before he gets booted. I mean, holy cow, they hate his stuff every week, and now we are getting down to the part where wayyy better designers are getting booted instead of him.
I was kind of hoping they would boot Rami. The sheer amount of whine, sulk, and pout coming off him was enough to nearly give me a headache. My word! Reminded me of a yappy mini-poodle and a six-year old all rolled into one. Tim should have given him a sucker, patted him on the head, and told him to go take a time out.
I loved Jillian’s coat. I thought it was the best piece of the night. I would wear it. I also liked Sweet P’s ready to wear dress.
I wasn’t crazy about either of C&C’s pieces, but you could really see both of them in the finished product. It was obvious just from looking at the dress that they worked well together. But, I think you could see more of Chris and I think he should have gotten the win. Unfortunately, I don’t think he will ever get a win because he was booted off once already. The last thing those judges want is Chris mugging into the camera about how they were wrong. He seems like a genuinely nice guy but he will never see Bryant Park.
There is nothing wrong with Rami’s style and he executes it beautifully, he was one of my favorites at first. But, I will pay him to do something, anything else. It’s the same dress just about every week, right down to the muted colors. If he had picked some bolder colors or gasp a print, I think he would have done much better last night even with the snore draped dress.
I feel bad for Kit. I think I saw where she was trying to go with her idea, but, once again, there were execution problems. And, Ricky, he made that one perfectly done dress on the first show and has churned out crap that looks like it was made in Home Ec since. Why is he still around?
It’s so funny that you bring up Austin. I was just talking about him today to a friend that didn’t see Season One. I loved him. I think he was robbed not making it to the final three.
Does a bear shit in the woods?
Me too! Oh, that damned Wendy Pepper.
Also loved when Christian was glaring at Vic and Jillian when they said they should win for having 3 outfits. Look of Death!
Austin is hands down my favourite contestant to ever appear on PJ. He’s like something out of an Oscar Wilde play, or something.
Not to mention, he, along with first season winner Jay MacCarroll and 2nd season 4th runnerup Kara Janx made the types of clothes I’d actually wear out and about.
I never would have thought that I would now find Christian so entertaining, but I do. Fierce! Ferosh!
I think they should have suspended that… thing above their model’s head to look like a frilly parasol.
I’ve been liking Rami, but this week? Ugh. I’m amazed how much I tend to like Sweet P.
I think VictorYA and Jillian were robbed but I can also see why they weren’t. Avante garde couture should be (semi)wearable art. You want it for art’s sake whether you can or could or should wear it, as I understand it. To my mind, C&C Factory’s dress was more costumey because of the giant wing. The dress was amazing without the wing but the wing made it ‘art’ while the dress’s design made it ‘couture’.
The V&J’s trenchcoat was wonderfully extreme - bustles, ruffles, asymmetry and boatloads of attitude. It was wearable first and art second and that’s why I think it took second.
I don’t like Christian, he’s a snotty little art diva who hasn’t had the experience to deserve the title. What I don’t understand is why people aren’t noticing that everything he does has a ruffle or tight mini-pleat down the front. We’ve noticed that Rami makes grecian toga dresses over and over which is why I didn’t think he’d see Bryant Park until I remember last season when Uli made the same flowy print dress over and over. Christian is doing the same thing. Is that a ‘signature’ or his or just a fall back position when he can’t think of any other way to finish?
And while I’m at it, will someone PLEASE get Ricky some Midol?
Leaky Reaky is wearing me out.
Yeah, he was terribly endearing! (Jay and one or two others too.) Seasons 2 and 3 had endearing and skilled people on there too, but this season, not so much for me.
