Project Runway 10/14 The Prequel

I’ve seen/heard two different sources saying that tonight’s show is the last episode before Fashion Week. Does that mean that two people will be eliminated tonight?

If one person is eliminated, who will it be?
Who would you like it to be?

If two people are eliminated, who will they be?
Who would be like them to be?

My answers:

  1. Michael C.
  2. April
  3. Michael C. and April
  4. April and Gretchen

Usually, they have 4 people prepare for fashion week, but narrow it down to 3 after the collections are created and assembled (while the 4th usually still “shows” at Fashion Week, acting as a decoy so anyone actually attending the event doesn’t know for certain who the Odd Person Out is).

I really hope it’s Gretchen who gets the boot, but the odds say it’s either Michael or April

Well, 10 designers ACTUALLY showed at Fashion Week as decoys this year. However, I’m guessing they’ll eliminate 2 tonight instead of one. So far, I’m not impressed by any of it.

I’m so not getting the love for Michael C’s dress.

Me either. WTF?

I am honestly shocked they advanced Gretchen. I hate everything she’s done. Michael’s looked like a Target maxi dress. But I’m just bitter that they kicked April off.

I’d have been happy with either April or Gretchen leaving. April does nothing but black dresses with cut outs and asymmetrical arms and I’ve hated Gretchen since the beginning.

Me either.

In the workroom, it bore an uncanny resemblance to the tanktop that Gretchen was wearing while they sewed. I kept thinking he’d get Auf’d for being really boring and they raved over that.
Maybe it was way more impressive in person.

April managed to make her model look pregnant. Gretchen’s was dull. I liked Mondo & Andy.

I thought Michael C’s dress was pretty, but I don’t think it was original or wow-worthy. it was just a flowy black dress. The back did fit beautifully, though.

Mondo of course was great. He does things I could never think of together and they look like they belong.

Andy did Andy, but not in a bad way.

Gretchen’s was just clothes, which is about the worse thing you can say about a garment on Project Runway.

April did April, but not in a good way. At least we know Andy can break out of his mold.

I thought Christian Serrano was actually willing to say things the judges didn’t see or say. Most of the guest judges are little Michael Kors and Nina Garcia parrots.

I was very disappointed in all the designs for this challenge. I would expect to see something grand and over the top for a final challenge, but they all kinda dropped the ball. Just think back to the last couple of seasons for what the designers have done and compare it to last night. I wanted to see big bold runway looks, I wanted to see red carpet dresses and we got middle of the road work.

Anywho, I think Michael C’s dress just didn’t show well on TV. I think you miss the fluidity and the draping that the judges were cooing over. Mondo really did need to add some color, as well as April. Andy’s dress didn’t get me excited or really provoke much in the way of emotion.

Can’t wait to see the finals and who the final three are. I hope it is Mondo, Andy and Michael, but only because I think Gretchen is a world class narcissist.

Add me to the list. His garment looked like an ugly JC Penny nightgown on my television screen.

I’m glad they auffed April. She’s done the same ugly dress over and over again. My bet for the obvious win? Mondo.

I think April subconciously suppukued herself. There is no way she couldn’t have realized that just changing the color to even navy blue could have saved her. No way she didn’t realize that was the same exact dress that she has designed over and over. It’s a shame because I was rooting for her.

The thing about Michael C’s dress is that it is difficult to get a dress that moves well, looks comfortable, flows in a lovely manner and manages not to look sloppy or frumpy. The perfect cut of the fabric in the back, the sexy split in the front…the strappy details at the shoulder…those all came together to make that a really beautiful look that isn’t at all overworked. I loved it.

Mondo’s look was great as usual. Is it just me or does it seem pretty obvious that Mondo has this in the bag?

Nzinga - It’s not just you.

Minnie Luna - I actually think working in black and white was a brilliant choice for Mondo, simply because throughout the competition he’s been know for his bold use of color. This shows he doesn’t need color to win. However, one bright yellow accessory would’ve been a good note, to recall the cab in his photo.

Tim even directly warned April, when they were at Mood, that the judges wanted her to shake up her designs, and she told him that she understood that. Tsk.

I think the only one who can beat Mondo at this point is Mondo, if he has a nervous breakdown or some such.

Michael C’s continued advancement is entertaining if only for the obvious resentment that it inspires in Gretchen.

Gretchen: He’s either an idiot savant or just an idiot. And you never know which until he gets to the runway.

The thing I found funny was that, while Gretchen is a legend in her own mind, few of the other designers picked her to go with them to Fashion Week. I’d think that would be a blow to her ego, but I’m sure Gretchen rationalized it by saying to herself the the other designers didn’t want the competition.

I did like her coming to terms with Tim Gunn and realizing that he just gives them as honest a critique as he can.

I cannot stand Gretchen. She comes across as a condescending bitch who thinks she’s so much better than she is. While Michael C. is not the best designer in the bunch, he does a better job overall than she does. It sounds like she just cuts him down at every opportunity just to make herself feel better.

The two best, IMHO, are Andy and Mondo, and I would give the win to Mondo at this point. He could be the next Christian Siriano.

Take a look a Victoria Beckham on the cover of the November Marie Claire.April may not be as far off track as we think.

As much as I dislike Gretchen, I would’ve felt bad if she’d been eliminated when exhaustion was so obviously a factor.

All the designers seemed exhausted. This was an extremely important challenge; they got extra time and money, yet none of them wowed. I agree that Michael C’s dress didn’t show well on the small screen.

Michael C. may or may not benefit from the editing, but he is humble about his own successes and genuinely delighted by the success of others.

The runway looked like a funeral. All the designs were black, and all the designers were wearing black. It would’ve been a relief to see a splash of color from Mondo, but the yellow sequins didn’t work, and that was that.

Prior to the show, I was pondering what it would take for Mondo to be eliminated. He could’ve cut out Gretchen’s tongue with pinking shears, covered his model in double stick tape, and sent a Yorkie down the runway chewing on a New Balance shoe – and he’d still be in. Without him, Fashion Week would be a joke. It didn’t occur to me that he might sleep through the work time. I wonder if the other contestants would’ve ever awakened him.

But that’s underwear, right? It looks like something designed to be worn under a specific gown with the shoulder pads attached to the bra. That’s not something Mrs. Beckham wears to grocery shop, is it?

My problem with Gretchen is not rational. Her argument style is just like my ex-husband’s therefore watching her makes me uncomfortable. First, assert your POV to the point of being aggressive. If called on it say you’re only stating your opinion. When your opponent is not intimidated afterall, start to cry. When Gretchen cries I never feel like it’s sincere. It always comes across to me as calculated to garner a specific response. I wouldn’t be rooting so hard for her to be eliminated if I liked her clothes at all. But the ex- factor combined with clothes I find dull make it hard to care if she stays.

In other seasons there have been shapeless things that made the judges rhapsodic. I just assume there are aspects regarding cinstruction and finishing that we’ll never be able to see as the TV audience. That’s the only way for me to interpret their reaction to Michael’s dress.

I liked Christian S as a judge. I hope they’ll bring him back in the future - sort of- I’m not sure I’m hoping all that hard for another season. His criticism seemed really quite constructive.

It seems to me that when the clothing is all black, it just doesn’t present very well on television. There have been quite a few times over the years that i just couldn’t see what the judges loved about a particular black piece, and i think that the way the camera shows it might have something to do with that. It doesn’t help that there is strong white backlighting as the models come down the runway, because it makes it even harder to discern all the nuances of black garments.

That said, i still didn’t really get the love for Michael’s dress, although it was clearly very well made. When we found out it was going to be a New York challenge, the first thing i thought was, “I hope no-one is stupid enough to choose the Statue of Liberty for inspiration.” And then, early on, it looked like Michael’s dress was going to be a disaster.

Mondo was a no-brainer. I think Andy will produce a really interesting collection. I would have preferred April to stay, rather than Gretchen, but i freely admit that has more to do with personality than anythig else.

Fucking Gretchen just can’t help herself. Every time she gets criticized, she has to make some remark that disses the other designers. Did you hear her when she got back to the room after being told she was safe?

“I’m just really relieved that they gave me the second chances that each of you guys got.”

WTF? Fuck her. I really hope she doesn’t win the whole thing.

So, if they were all exhausted (and i think they probably were), then why would Gretchen being eliminated for that reason be any worse than anyone else?
