Well, that was a fucking cop-out. I just knew they were going to pull some sort of shit like that. It’s lame! lame! lame!
I just don’t think Rami should be given another chance. They kept telling him and telling him that he had to do something different, and he kept on churning out the same boring drapery. As soon as Tim told them the challenge tonight, everyone in our loungeroom said, “Rami is going to choose the Greek and Roman drapery.” He’s so goddamn predictable.
I was really disappointed with Sweet P’s performance. I thought her idea to use the peacock was excellent, and i really liked some of the fabric she chose, but there was just nothing exciting about the dress. I completely agreed with Nina and the others—a good, wearable dress, but no real fashion or excitement to it.
Jillian’s was just great, and while Christian is a snippy little asshole at times, he really does great work. I’m really looking forward to both of their runway collections.
Christian’s look tonight deserved the win. He did everything he was supposed to-- updated and couture’d up the classic look from his painting, made interesting, beautiful clothes, and pulled of a cohesive, finished outfit. It was dazzling, really. I loved the styling on his model too. I also find his snippy little bitch persona quite amusing. I’m glad he made it to the finals.
Jillian, I never get all the love directed towards her. The jacket was cool, the dress underneath was boring. Overall, though, she’s a good designer and I can see why she’s in.
I agree 100% with mhendo about the cop-out indecision between Chris and Rami. Kinda makes me a little mad at Chris, because if he’d sent something a somewhat less derivative of his earlier couture look down the runway, he’d have won it, no question. Why oh why did he repeat that look?!? Rami’s dress was pretty but boring, more of the same (his model is gorgeous though). Chris, do some daring, unique stuff and let Rami founder in the final challenge, please!
Sweet P had to go. That dress was fug.
Next week is the reunion ep. Those are always fun.
Chris should have had that third place, hands down. Yes, his dress was rather similar in style to one he did before, but at least he didn’t make the same dress over and over almost every single challenge.
Don’t get me wrong, I think Rami is a wonderful designer and does beautiful work and I would wear a gown of his in a heartbeat. But, I just don’t think he showed the versatility that he needed to to earn a spot in the final three.
I was overjoyed when Jillian got a guarantee for the final three. I’ve liked her since day one.
Christian. meh. Yes, he did a wonderful job. With the same style outfit he made for many of the challenges (ruffled shirt, short jacket, puffed sleeves, slim pants - again). I don’t see why the judges never called him out for that.
I didn’t like Sweet P at first but she grew on me. But that dress was a hot mess and she really did deserve the auf.
I have never been absolutely green with envy of the designers before tonight. The Met is my favorite museum and I would KILL for the opportunity to not only have the whole place to myself but take pictures. Holy freakin’ Cow. I hope they understand how unbelievably fortunate they were to be able to have that experience.
raises hand I am a Jillian lover. I can only speak for myself, but what I love about her is that she is just the right blend of fashion forward and wearability. I can picture myself in her clothes. As opposed to, say, Chris who made several outfits that I liked quite a bit but I couldn’t picture myself wearing them (or really anyone wearing them off the runway).
She also comes off as a very cool, likeable person without a huge ego (of course, she may have just gotten the “nice girl” edit - so who really knows?)
anyrose, I believe the winner from the first year was similar to Chris in build.
I don’t think the judges were looking for clothes that could be worn by the average person. That’s one of the reasons that Sweet P lost. Her dress was too commercial. How many people can you imagine getting away with wearing Christian’s design? That’s why I’m surprised that Rami got through. Why wasn’t his design considered too commercial?
I thought his dress was gorgeous, BTW. I never tire of draping. But Jillian’s was my favorite. Breathtaking when that jacket was opened! And the back of the jacket was extraordinary!
I think Chris is the most natural genius in the bunch, but I will miss Sweet P.
I had absolutely no idea that I would ever be interested in fashion design, but the creativity of these people who work in fabrics has just blown me away! I am hooked on the show now and have bought Tim’s book, issues of Vogue and HB and other books on fashion and design. My reputation as an aging hippy is in ruins.
I knew weeks ago that no matter what happens in the last 3 or 4 episodes before fashion week that Christian, Jillian, and Rami were going to be the final three, even if one of them screwed up.
Rami screwed up by being a combination of stubborn and timid and putting out a safe gown that he probably could have done in his sleep 10 years ago, rather than listening to what the judges and Tim warned him about. He is like a quarterback who keeps on sending his recievers out on predictable routes or a pitcher who keeps on throwing his predictable pet pitches against coaches orders. Those guys get intercepted, get hit out of the park, and eventually lose their jobs. I don’t think he deserved another chance, despite his body of work compared to Chris’.
Christian annoys the heck out of me, I would rather enjoy seeing him lose. I like Chris as a person, but he is not as talented as the other three, so I don’t expect him to win. I guess I am going for Jillian by default. My…wife…gets…annoyed…by
Jillian’s…robotic…delivery. I think she looks good in a skirt.
Sweet P’s been on life support for weeks; it’s about time they pulled the plug.
While I certainly like Chris way more than I like that little bitch Christian, I agree that he lags way behind him in talent. I think Chris’s exposure on this show will help him in his career as a costume designer and maybe get him some nice Broadway gigs.
Other than being hot (which I think is damned near synonymous with being a young Israeli- what’s in the water on kibbutzim that Israel produces so much more of its share of hunks [that’s with a hard K of course]?), I don’t really see the fixation with Rami. His designs make me think of Dom Deluise’s mad Caesar from Mel Brooks History of the World when he’s presented with the carved bathtub:
“Nice… not thrilling… but… nice”
but I’ve yet to see him give anyone a treasure bath (man but that’s a dated and strained reference).
Jillian: I’ve really liked one or two things she did but usually just don’t much notice. Is it me or is this season really lacking some of the real innovation of last season’s designers?
My hope: Christian will win because his talent deserves it, but he’ll get drunk at the after-party and piss off Donatella Versace, who will in a coke fueled feat of superstrength twirl him around by that funky back-left hair thing and toss him into Isaac Mizrahi who will, along with Rami, be revealed as a high level Mossad agent and, thinking Christian’s a terrorist, Krav Maga his little arrogant ass alphabetically from the Armani Pavilion through the Vera Wang Tent. But he’ll recover in time for his spread.
PS- Didn’t everyone else also assume that Sweet P’s dress would have a train? A green flowing train with a wild explosion of color at the end- that says peacock. Instead she went peahen.
And I couldn’t believe how cocky Chris was to Tim about being finished. Did he think that because the raised part was on the right this time it meant “whole new dress”, I wonder?
What are the odds that Rami’s 3 for next week will be draped?
Well, as has been previously discussed in these threads, more than the final “three” actually show at Bryant Park. You can see ALL the collections here on the Bravotv.com website. (You can’t figure out who wins, though, just from the collections - at least, I couldn’t.)
Rami seems to alternate between draping & pleating.
Can you imagine how awful Sweet P must have felt when she heard about the “design off”? Not that she didn’t deserve to be auf’d, but still…ouch!
That little Christian is an annoying bitch, but his work is undeniably good. I would also like to see him get beyond the poofy jacket, narrow pants thing, but he’s done some other stuff.
Jillian has slowly grown on me. I think she’s a real person, rather than a reality TV caricature. When her model opened the jacket, I was almost blinded by the gold flash. I didn’t particularly care for her outfit, but I can understand why she got through.
Rami, Rami, Rami. When he was given the Ancient Greek statues, I thought he’d give us the best, most exciting, most wonderful, most breathtaking draped dress that the world had ever seen A drape for the ages. Something that would immediately be installed in the Metropolitan sculpture garden. Instead, what do we get, a bra with curtains (with its strap hanging down).
I was glad that Chris nearly knocked Rami off (and may still). Cavalli loved his dress, and the others only dinged him because he’d used the swoopy shoulder before (and he’s not really a repeater like Christian and Rami). I liked that he finished, and took a nap, and didn’t give in to Tim’s call to “panic, panic, panic.”
Since they always have four contestants prepare collections before Fashion Week (one as a decoy, except last year), the idea of a collection-off makes sense. I can’t wait to see what to do, particularly to see if and how Rami breaks out of his drapery rut.
Unfortunately, my sweet, sweet Sweet P had to go as she wasn’t at the same level as the others for the parameters of this competition. I liked that they all agreed that she made wearable, commercial clothes. I hope that that translates to success in the long term. I was hoping that she’d sneak in if the judges nailed Rami for over-draping and thought Chris was too costumey, but quite properly that didn’t happen.
My inner train wreck-watcher is disappointed that there wasn’t more Draaamah, but this year’s designers were much more competent and professional than in prior years. The generally seemed to like and respect each other. Also, there seemed to be an absence of cocktail parties with the designers and special guests, and of course no major international trips. With the off weeks and the double elimination at the end, this season seemed a bit shorter and flatter than the others.
Moderator: I’ve changed the thread title, dropping the ? and adding that there are open spoilers. I suppose it’s obvious, but we do get del]hissy fits[/del] people upset over that sort of thing.
Poster: I thought it was silly. Rami was on the block for consistently doing the same thing without doing anything new or different; Chris was on the block for ONCE repeating a similar effect. The former seems like a serious offense, and always has been. The latter? I mean, good Lord, every one of them repeats effects – removable jacket, white-and-black, whatever. Chris’s was just noticable because it was so large.
I thought it amusing that the comments about both Rami and Sweet P were that they make “wearable” dresses, as though that were a sin.
I find her to be “middle of the pack”-- not really wildly innovative, every once in a while something brilliant (the coat in the couture challenge). So it’s not that I dislike her, but she doesn’t bowl me over with her coolness the way Chris or Christian (and yes, even Rami) has on occasion. That said, she deserved her place in the final 3 because she has been consistently good. She obviously works her ass off. I was surprised they didn’t call her on the unfinished hem on her dress last night. Poor Kevin got auf’ed partially for an unfinished hem. But you never know what the judges will pick on or ignore.
I’m not trying to be mean, but she seems to alternate between whiny and sedated. Even when she’s being bitchy to Christian last night, it was in that nasally monotone. That gets on my nerves more than Christian’s fey fierce arrogance, which I find kind of cute (the way I find those little yippy dogs cute–YMMV).
Was I the only one waiting for the other shoe to drop last night… which never came?
It seemed like such a set-up: rather bland open-ended challenge, $300 (!) to spend, 2 days to complete – every time Tim walked in I expected him to tell them they had to add a couture look for their model’s imaginary dog and favorite pony, or something.
As it was, turns out they were giving them all enough design freedom to hang themselves from. Which Rami and Chris promptly did. Last challenge, and they either (1) do the same damn thing the judges have been scolding them about for half the season!, or (2) go take a nap, while Tim Gunn panics! Idiots; should’ve been a two-way final, with three auf’d.
I’m curious as to how the “deadlock” broke out – obviously Foreign Mumbles Guy liked Chris, and I suspect the oompa-loompa was for Rami… how did Nina & Heidi sort out, I wonder? Or was the split an editorial fiat to manufacture some – Lord, any – drama from this snoozer.
Is it true that all 5 will (or did) show at Bryant Park, even though only 3 are (were) in contention for the grand prize from PR?
Last night’s deisgns were totally ho-hum and repeats. Rami drapes. Jillian does a fab coat with a halter dress and flippy skirt underneath, Christian does tighttight pants and a jacket with boufy sleeves (bouf’ed to the max). Sweet Pea does a very nice ready-to-wear. Chris did a re-do of the avant garde challenge but that’s the only repeat he did of the entire season, unlike the rest.
My prediction is that Jillian wins the PR grand prize.
I agree…she’s weirdly flat in her delivery of just about everything she says. Last night my husband and I were wondering if we have ever seen her smile even once during the season…I don’t think she ever has.
I think the coat she did on that challenge with Victorya was brilliant…one of the best things I’ve ever seen on Project Runway…but nothings else she’s done has stood out. The construction seems really good, but the designs don’t grab me.
I think that Christian is going to win. I really think that in terms of vision and sheer talent, he is by far the best. I would never guess in looking at his designs that he is so young.
I am hoping beyond hope that Chris wins in the little run-off with Rami. I think Rami’s stuff is pretty, but it’s not edgy or fashion-forward in any way. Even my husband, who only half-watches and couldn’t care less about fashion said “he better not drape any of those three.” Chris’s dress last night was gorgeous. It didn’t bother me that it was a “wearable” version of what they did in the couture challenge. After all, they explained in that challenge that designers do create “conceptual” designs and then wearable versions of them. This was a much better wearable version than what he & Christian did in that challenge (not surprising, with the time crunch they had been under).
I really, really liked Sweet P as a person…one of my favorites ever on the show… and many of her designs were cute, but I didn’t see her being up to creating a collection for Bryant Park. I did feel bad that she was the only one auf’d last night. And I think that it really would have meant a lot to her to win, so she could get some funding for her business, but I don’t think this competition was quite right for her.
Looking forward to the reunion show next week…whatever someone was saying to Victorya, she looked royally pissed!
Yes. And I didn’t find it commercial - I found it sort of patchwork and a little bit ugly.
And how exactly can one be “passionate about draping.” That doesn’t even make sense. And didn’t he know he was being baited by being brought into that room?
Thing is, while Rami has done the same thing week after week after week - so has Christian. Super tight pants. Puffy sleeves. Mini pleats on the lapel. Every single week. All of his designs look exactly the same. They’re good for what they are, but then so are Rami’s. But I have the exact same complaint about both of them. They’re repetitive.
I’ve never been to that museum - do they have non-european art there? I would have liked to have seen what they would have done had they been able to choose inspiration from Eastern art or something other than Europe, Greece, Rome, or Egypt.
All 5 did show. You can see their collections here. (Scroll down for season 4).
caution -
It’s pretty easy to see that Rami wins the challenge (IMHO). He has some gorgeous stuff in his collection, although he does have some of his usual drapey things. Christian definately went avante-guard! And sadly, there was (reportedly) no applause for Sweet Pea’s collection. She’s really in over her head at Bryant Park.
