Korto (which is pronounced “cut-oe” or something like that, apparently) has shown literally no sense of levity, camaraderie, or humor so far. She’s grumpy and aloof so far, unless she’s crying over the dress with ass fins. Maybe that’s just the edit she’s getting, but she was sour as hell with Joe. Maybe she doesn’t like him, but I don’t think he said anything to awful to warrant going off on him. Seriously, she had immunity, you’d think she’d be more relaxed, perhaps even supportive of Joe, whose ass would be on the line if they were in the bottom.
Now, Terri was maybe being a bit jocular with her “vajayjay” comment to Suede, though arguably not a terrifically PC thing to say to a bisexual, esp. considering all the flack Joe got in the blogosphere for saying there were “too many queens.” Terri was clearly aggravated by Suede’s reluctance to do anything drastic without consulting her, but he was in a no-win situation there. She gave him the harder job (he had to make that crazy shirt, all she had was the pants), micromanaged him, and then lashed out until Tim reassured her it was good.
I can’t believe I’m defending Joe and Suede over Korto and Terri, nor that I am loving Jerell and Stella right now, but this season is turning out to be weird.
I think Jerell and Stella should have won. It screamed Lipstick Jungle to me. I didn’t like Keith’s ugly brown dress and hoochy floral blouse. I liked Kelli’s “slutty slutty” dress a lot. There were some problems with it, I wouldn’t have chosen it to win, but it didn’t deserve to be in the bottom. The fabric combinations were nice, and she did a great job of toning down the leopard print without eliminating it all together. If a leader had to go, it should have been Blaine - his dress was a mess! If the other team had to sacrifice it should have been Daniel, his skirt was quite poor and he has a bad attitude. I liked when he was talking himself up and got laughed at.
The problem is, his proposal sketch, while daring and a bit risky, was still potentially fabulous. The final result looked nothing at all like his sketch. And not only didn’t it resemble his sketch, it was a piece of crap.
Couldn’t agree with you more about Korto and Terri, and I too am shocked at myself for liking Stella and Jerrell as much as I did on this episode. Last week Jerell’s was waaaaay off. I haven’t made up my mind about Joe, but…don’t laugh at me ya’ll…I kinda like Suede. Quit laughing, will ya? I read on the PR site that his name came from he and his friends in art school calling each other fabric names like Velvet, etc. I think that is funny. And call me wierd, but I totally get his whole third person thing. It is just playful and a fun way to play with words. I guess I get it because I am an artist, and me and my other artist friends do that silly stuff, too. We make up words and play with word tense, etc…
Ok, I am wierd. But I like being wierd. Who wants to be normal? Normal is boring.
So, next week could be a different story as to who will do well. Jerrell, Stella, and Suede could all come unraveled next week and create something wrong.
But I doubt it. It is drag queens next week, so the designers that I feel will be in their element with that challenge are Blayne (so, GAH, he’ll survive another week), Suede, Jerrell, and possibly Stella.
The ones who will flounder will be:
Daniel - cuz from where I sit his construction skills are limited and he has no design flair, something essential for doing drag. I hope one of those big ol’ queens puts him in his place!
Korto - she’ll be a sour puss the whole time and make something big and ugly with odd color combos. Nobody wants to look like a big sweet potato, not even in drag.
Leanne - I am predicting Leanne will be lost and wander around aimlessly and cry because the girl has no confidence. Her look will merely provide cannon fodder for the judges, but she’ll squeak through.
Joe, Keith and Kenley could go either way, but I see Keith or Joe struggling more with it than Kenley.
Jerrell has a very good chance of winning next week based on what he has designed so far. His looks have been all over the place, but they always have good mechanics and proper foundation underneath which will serve him well with those clients.
The two I would most like to see go next week would be either Daniel or Korto.
I thought Keith’s dress was good and appropriate. Though I wassort of rooting for Jarrell, if only because it felt like it was his one opportunity to grab the spotlight. At least there’s comfort in knowing that the dress got positive attention, which will work for him in the long run.
Blayne annoys me. He’s never impressed me and he always seems to be a bit off the mark. Too flashy when he needs to more down to earth. Too down to earth when he needs to be flashy.
e Hooray, Chris March returns for next week. I’ve been watching a bit of last season, the competition was actually quite… Should I say… Fierce? Very good participants all around, especially between the final four - Christian, Chris, Rami and Jillian. Also, according to Tim, there was very little bickering between the contestants in favor of a professional attitude. I guess I miss last season.
There were a couple of things about this episode that struck me. First, is there any workplace in which a bare midriff is appropriate business attire? Even if I were slender enough to pull the look off, I can’t see how it would be professional looking.
Second, I loved the stunned look on Stella’s face when she was told that leather wasn’t appropriate business attire.
I actually liked Blayne’s look, but it’s something I’d wear to the company picnic, not to work. Would it have worked if he’d made the shorts wide-legged so they could pass for a skirt?
And I totally disagree with people saying she was being bitchy and has been bitchy. I see her as someone who is driven to succeed and is matter of fact but not about to stab anyone in the back. I think her frankness can be edited to seem bitchy and that’s why they’re editing her that way (instead of having her be “boring”).
I’m as oversensitive as they come (dammit) and even I understood exactly what Korto was saying. Basically, it was, “dammit, don’t just go along with whatever my ideas are if you have problems with it, and then only voice those problems when Tim is here. Like it or not, if this is a shitty garment, you’re the one going home* so tell me if you have issues with this because I want to make sure that this is the best that we both feel it can be”. If Joe’s time on this show is completely at stake, since Korto can’t go home, he needs to make sure that this garment is the best it can be, which means that if he has doubts, he needs to fucking speak up NOW.
Even I, like I said, oversensitive, wouldn’t have had a problem with that.
I’ve said it once and I’ll say it again, I HATE that they have team/group challenges when someone has immunity. It’s not fair to that person’s teammate at ALL.
I just went back and looked at the sketch, and Blayne’s final product looks a LOT like the sketch. There weren’t a lot of details on the shorts in the picture; he would have had to come up with some details in the sewing process to dress it up. The top looks like it had a longer jacket or coat, which would have been dressier than the button down shirt, but the blue evening top underneath is the same.
Really? If someone said she’d cut you off and you’d be dead to her, you wouldn’t have a problem with that? I would, especially if, like Joe, it were MY ass on the line.
The deal was, Korto was the team leader and in charge of the sweet potato jacket, and Joe was in charge of the dress. Considering how touchy Korto is and that is was her design (IMO), he didn’t want to butt into her aspect of the project to tell her how to do it. He waited for Tim to say something to give him an opening. I think it was his way of being diplomatic about criticizing her. She overreacted, considering she was not at any risk.
I feel like it’s almost a guarantee of making it to the next round.
