Okay, I couldn’t stop giggling after Blayne’s “Who’s the fashion icon. I hope it’s MaryKate Olsen. Ever challange should have MaryKate Olsen. I want to marry MaryKate Olsen - who wouldn’t? Except Tim Gunn.”
As for the outfits, I thought Joe’s was particularly weak. I hated the pink belt with the colour of the blouse - it just didn’t go. And the back looked poorly fitted. Maybe you can get away with an open-backed shirt if it fits well. Nothing was really constructed well.
I liked Leanne’s dress, but I thought the jacket on top looked a little too clunky - too much like fleece instead of wool. .
Blayne’s knickers were sort of cute, but didn’t evoke a WWII mode for me.
Jerrell’s looked like a thrift-store outfit. The dark blue skirt, bright blue belt, black jacket and brown shirt looked thrown together in the dark.
Kenley’s dress was very professional and salable-looking. However, it looked to me like something you could get a Sears. And her whiney voice is beginning to annoy me more than Stella’s, which I didn’t think was possible
Korto’s dress was cool, and that black and white fabric had an art-deco period feel.
Stella’s outfit again shows that she can’t work from any viewpoint besides her own. That was her real weakness. Auffed!
Joe’s camo dress did nothing for me. Nothing. He’s lucky he didn’t get auffed.
I don’t even remember seeing Terri’s outfit come down the runway. I guess making no impression is better than making a poor one.
Suede’s dress was a hot mess. It looked like something you could find on the sales rack at Dress Barn. I don’t know what he was thinking with that huge slit in the back of the skirt or that vest that didn’t relate to the rest of the piece. I think Suede was saved by Stella’s poorly tailored garment. The design wasn’t that bad, but shoddy craftsmanship made her deserving of being sent home. Awww…STEEEEEELLLLLLLAAA!
It was time for Stella to go. She was getting pretty tiresome.
On the merits alone I probably would have sent Suede home. Suede, Blayne, and Jerrell are all cannon fodder, with Joe right behind them if he can’t step it up (and if they’re willing to allow an all-girl final four).
It seems like the talent this year isn’t as good as previous. Styles that aren’t really inspired, and I can’t remember if any of the judges have commented on the craftsmanship of any of the garments? I recall in past years hearing several times, “Yeah, the design is so-so, but it’s put together perfectly.” What do you all think, is this just my imagination?
Yeah, Jerrell or Joe may get lucky enough to make Final 4, but at this point, I would guess that Leanne, Korto, and Kinley are likely finalists, with Blayne & Suede definite Auff-bound. Which leaves J&J battling Terri for that final spot.
Terri will get hung up on her lack of range. Not every problem can be solved by a jacket and pants. I question Joe’s taste – remember that he won the drag queen week, which was deliberately over-the-top. His outfit this week would have been a weird combination of shapes and colors even if it had been well-made. Jerell has shown some flashes of brilliance, so I have hope for him.
I thought Blayne’s outfit this week was awful. Just because Leanne can pull off big puffy hips doesn’t mean Blayne should experiment with big puffy thighs. Suede, I have not yet given up on.
They say it sparingly this year. I think there’s just a spate of shoddy craftsmanship (excepting Leanne, who seems to be able to execute a questionable design perfectly) this year. The designers are going to have to step up the quality to be able to compete with Leanne. Surprising to me - she came off at the beginning of the season as “mousy girl ripe for auffing”. She’s really blossomed!
I didn’t like Kenley’s at all. Couldn’t figure out what it was doing in the top 3. Korto & LeeAnne won this one.
Stella’s idea was ok, but the construction was awful.
LeeAnne and Korto (assuming neither of them breaks down and just sends something awful) are my picks for Bryant Park.
After that - I don’t really see anyone else. Some of them do consistently ok, but nothing special (Terri - sick of the same thing every single week, Kenley). Some have flashes of greatness interspersed with utter dreck (Joe, Jerell). Some are skating because someone else did a crappier job that week (Blayne, Suede). Depending on who gets lucky, or who gets unlucky with a specific challenge, any of those 6 could make the final four.
When the show first started I was really rooting for Kenley but lately her attitude has just been grating on my nerves. Leanne has really stepped it up and I’m rooting for her to win it all. Terri’s pants and jacket were impressive the first time or two she did it but it’s getting played now. (Though that didn’t keep Rami from making it to Bryant park last year.)
I really like Korto and Leanne and Kenley this week, the rest were really meh. I think Joe’s was much worse than Stella’s but Stella can’t really design anything other than pants and a vest so no matter what she was getting auff’d eventually. I’m seeing Korto and Leanne in the final three with possibly Kenley or Terri rounding it out. The guys just aren’t up to snuff.
I miss the season with Ahhhdrae and Santino. The contestants were so much more interesting.
I know, when she was going on about how great her dress was, she seemed so smarmy. I rather liked Heidi putting her in her place, saying it was okay, but not necessarily quite as brilliant as she thought.
ETA: Agree–I miss Santino. There was a character and one who could actually produce. Seasons 1-3 were so great, but I feel like this last one has been really weak. I’m thinking Korto and Leann are definite ones to watch for Bryant Park. Of the guys, the only one pinging my meter is Jerell.
I’ve wondered if having such a poor group of designers is a conspiracy to tank the show before it switches networks. But then I think that they selected the designers before they knew the show was moving, so they didn’t deliberately sabotage it (merely serendipitously sabotaged it).
Joe’s outfit was insanely bad: bad design, bad craftsmanship, bad fabric choice, bad, bad, bad. I actually thought that he’d be auf’d, and I’m surprised Stella was, particularly since she’s a more interesting person than Joe.
I agree that it’s probably Leanne and Korto in the final, and I’m kind of indifferent beyond that.
That was where she started standing out - that concentric circle dress was awesome! I think in the beginning I was confusing her with the other mousy girl who was auffed early. Often they auf the folks who don’t make good TV. My favourites often get cut because they don’t have huge personalities.
I can’t be the only one who sees Korto as a one-trick pony. This week’s garment wasn’t bad, but it seems like most of her stuff looks like too much material and too matronly.
That was exactly my reaction. The dress was fantastic, but the jacket just didn’t seem to go very well with it, i thought.
I really liked the dress, but just doing the one piece probably hurt her.
I agree that she’s getting rather annoying. Her whining voice and her whining attitude make for a bad combination. She’s pretty hot, though.
I liked the dress, and i loved the yellow she put in at the bottom, although i did agree with Tim that the yellow at the top looked a bit like exposed bra straps.
I know that it’s a bit late to expect such changes now, after the show’s been going for so long, but i’d find the whole thing much more interesting if we got to see more aesthetic disagreements among the judges. I simply do not believe that they all agree with one another so unreservedly every week, and i think the show would be better if we got to see some fashion debates among them.
Oh my god, yes. I agree completely. It’s something that drives me absolutely nuts about the show. At most, you’ll sometimes get a guest judge that disagrees with the other three judges, although the only thing that’s coming to my mind at the moment is that one guy who liked the god-awful jumpsuit that Santino made for whatever that girl’s name was in season 2.
For goodness’ sake, the judges on America’s Next Top Model disagree more frequently than the PR crew.
I’d also like to see more of a dialog between the judges and the designers when they’re on the runway. The designers get about two sentences to explain what they did, and they really don’t get much of a chance to respond to the judges’ comments without being cut off and labeled uppity. I was thinking about that during this week’s episode. God knows that Kenley is annoying, but the second she started to respond to Heidi’s comments, Heidi got extremely snippy.
I realize that the show isn’t an in-depth look at fashion theory or anything, but with the wealth of information and experience that the judges have among them, it would be interesting for them to go into why exactly some things work and some things don’t, instances where other designers have tried to do similar things, etc… It would be more interesting than the 10,000th “Bitch stole my scissors!” fight, anyway.
Anyhoo, I was disappointed to see Stella go. I agree that her focus was simply too narrow for the competition (what on Earth would she have shown at Bryant Park?), but I liked having her around, and I thought that her garment was actually superior to the abomination that Joe sent down the runway. Stella at least seemed to have some sort of idea behind the whole thing.
I was wondering that, too! What happens if they disagree? It also seems a little too neat. Like, you’ll have three that the judges love, three the judges hate, whereas on, say, Top Model, you’ll have one person that one judge may love and another may hate. It would be nice if there was more of that on PR.
