Does anyone else think they sent the wrong designer home? I do.
I thought Daniel was going to go, but it became clear that they were holding the team leads accountable. I thought Daniel and Kelli had the worse design. I also hate to admit this, but I liked Jerrell and Stella’s collaboration. I still want Stella off the show, though. (auf the show?)
Raises hand.
I wanted Tan Boy gone. His design was fugly and inappropriate. I liked Kelly after seeing what she did in the first challenge. Her first effort was creative and pretty.
The smart thing to do in team challenges is always throw the initial challenge. Then even if you think the design sucks keep your mouth shut. The leader always takes the fall.
I was shocked the sweet potato caftan wasn’t in the bottom.
I don’t think (correct me if I’m wrong) that they’ve ever sent anyone other than the team leader home on a team challenge. I’m not sure what would have happened to Joe if Korto’s design was in the bottom, but I think it would have to be pretty bad for that to happen.
I think Jerell and Stella should have won. Jerell showed a lot of class in dealing with Stella, getting her involved, and using her strengths. He was very positive towards her and there was surprisingly no drama there. The outfit, while not to my particular taste (but hey, none of them were), looked pretty. The belt was a little weird, and may have been the difference between 1st and 2nd place. Of course Heidi loved it.
I really did not like Keith’s. Those “fringes” looked unfinished to me, kinda like Michael Knight’s coffee filter dress, only after the coffee was made and the filter needs to be tossed. Kenley was unintentional comedy gold with her hideous fabric choice yet again, while trying to mock Keith’s choice as “too South Beach.” Ironic! And her laughing at Daniel on the runway was pretty incredibly mean and unprofessional. I just do not like her.
And whoa, nasty attitude from Korto towards Joe and Terri towards Suede. I think Joe’s crit of Korto’s outfit was completely legitimate, and I can also see that he might be afraid to say anything to her because when he did, she threatened to cut him. Terri’s bitchfit over Suede’s top was unwarranted. I actually liked it a lot. Again, he was trying to be respectful of her leadership and she accused him of having “a vajayjay.” Is that really necessary? Because you know if he cut that fabric without asking her and she didn’t like it, she would be kicking his ass inside out.
Yeah, I am not liking the judging this season, but Kelli’s was the worst thing on the runway, and she was the leader. Daniel’s “I don’t care” attitude towards his pathetic inability to make a skirt was nasty, and I suspect he is not long for this competition (hope hope). I don’t think Blayne’s design was appropriate for the challenge, but once Brooke Shields picked it, what was he supposed to do? He said “Bermuda shorts” and she said OK. So he did it, and it was… wrong, but not as wrong as Kelli’s “slutty, slutty, slutty” outfit. And his willingness to take responsibility for it was admirable.
I thought Jerrel’s was going to be a slam-dunk win. Not that I loved it so much, but that I thought it seemed “right” for the task. But Keith’s outfit was good too, so I’m not complaining. I liked the way the sleeves converted
I agree that the wrong designer went home. I thought Blayne’s outfit was totally inappropriate, ill-fitting, and managed to be both boring and weird at the same time. I definitely “question his taste level.” I haven’t liked a thing he’s made! Obviously, Blayne would have been my first choice for the auf. Then Daniel. He’s deluding himself if he thinks he’s “high-end.” Kelli was cannon fodder anyway, so I’m not too upset about it, but it does seem a little odd that she was aufed this week.
I would have loved for Daniel to go home. It almost seemed to me that he was purposely trying to screw up because he knew she’d go home as the leader. I like some of the stuff she’d done in the past, so it sucks to see her gone.
Blayne was obnoxious and his design didn’t go with the challenge, but it at least looked like it was constructed well while Kelly/Daniel’s pieces looked cheap and flimsy. I think that’s why she got the boot instead of Blayne.
Katto and Terri were both nasty to their partners IMHO. Katto did improve that jacket, but it still looked like something someone’s overweight mother would wear.
The problem with questioning Blayne’s taste in the design is that Brooke Shields chose it, full of trepidation, which makes me wonder if that was a producer-motivated decision and not Brooke’s. I’m not sure exactly how anyone could make Bermuda shorts into day-to-evening wear. So he was set up to fail from the beginning, but considering that, it wasn’t a hot mess. Just meh. Now, Kelli’s definitely was a hot mess. As much as I’d like to blame it all on Daniel, it was Kelli’s design, and it was the design itself that sucked.
As cute and cool as Kelli seemed, I think auf’ing her was the only real choice here. As for the win, I would have picked Jerell for so many reasons.
I thought Daniel should have gone home. He’s awful. And he’s consistently awful. Kelli has turned in something decent from time to time. He has yet to do so. The dress was slutty and definitely the worst.
So for words I never thought I’d type - I liked Stella & Jerell’s dress. I mean, really liked it. I honestly thought it should have won. (Keith’s was weird. I really didn’t like the skirt thingies.)
And in Blayne’s defense (another set of words I never thought I’d type), he’s from Seattle. A city that is almost anti-fashion. That outfit was about 5 years too young for Brooke Shields, but other than that, it would fly on a professional business woman out here. No one would bat an eye if she wore that as a day to night outfit. In fact, I’m fairly certain I saw several people today in pretty much that design. It was dull - but not actively bad The slut suit was actively bad.
Anyone notice the big change this year? No more keeping the fan’s guessing, like in prior season’s. Last year we had to wait to find out who came through the door. This year no keeping us waiting no guessing, it’s like “Oh yeah and next week Brooke Sheilds is here”. They couldn’t work harder to kill the ratings.
But I love the next challenge, and Chris is back so I’m happy.
And I was so looking forward to getting rid of either Daniel or Blayne last night.
Preferably Daniel, really. Blayne, obnoxious though I find him, is actually quite talented, whereas Daniel not only sucks, he constantly whines about every challenge and is pretentious and full of himself to boot.
He can’t go quickly enough for me. God only knows how much of his bitching we’re going to have to put up with during next week’s challenge. I can’t imagine that drag queens fit his “high-end style” bullshit, either.
shy guy, I agree with everything you said about Daniel…he IS pretentious and full of himself, and at the same time, he can’t seem to back that up at all.
Is it just me, or are people having an unusually hard time grasping challenges this season? It seems like half the designs (or more) every week are just wildly inappropriate for what they are supposed to be doing.
That being said, I did like the winning design, and I think it will look great on Brooke.
I’m finding this season just dull. Most of the time I will do other things while the TV is on, but for the most part like to actually watch Project Runway. Last night, although I was in the same room as the TV I realized in the middle of the runway show that I had forgotten to look up for the first half of it.
I don’t like when these types of competition shows focus on the drama at the expense of wahtever the reason for the show is, but please, I’m going to need at least a little bit more of a sense of these people if I’m going to care at all who stays or goes.
No one has made anything yet that has made me catch my breath.
Anyone else notice that in weeks past Tim G has told the designers to “borrow liberally from the BlueFly Accessory wall” but last night said to borrow “appropriately” or judiciously" or somehting along those lines?
I thought last night that the judges should be able to send the designers home base on what they themselves are wearning. Leanne had on a strange brown cowl that did not seem in any way to realte to any other piece of her outfit, and Jerrell appeared to have on a hospital gown (altered at the neckline) with a vest over it.
Kelli wanted to win so her grandmother could see her work on television? Sweet? yes, but can’t Kelli’s granndma see her work. . .on television. . . on Project Runway?
Ugh, that was hideous! Another nauseating win.
I felt the opposite about the team situation–that in a lot of cases, the assistants were kind of passive aggressive. Daniel was, anyway–he talked about hating Kelli’s design and fabrics but to her, said he thought they were fine, and then when she called him on sewing it badly, basically said, “It’s your project, not mine.” Um…suck it up, dude.
And yeah, I think Kenley is obnoxious.
Yeah, I agree–they generally look a shabby lot, the designers. Jerrell’s was just…bizarre. And he looked pretty good when they were actually working, I’m not sure why he decided to put on a faux dress for the actual runway show. Kelli looked okay, but with all those tattoos, the effect of her relatively cute top was kind of tacky.
The best thing about that episode was Suede accidentally referring to himself in the first person that one time.
I only caught the first and final parts of the episode. I agree that the wrong designer went home. Kelli had potential, Blayne hasn’t really done anything wearable. But Kelli is dull and Blayne isn’t. I don’t understand why Brooke even gave Blayne a shot with his outfit. Judging by the comments when she was shown the designs she seemed to like some of the ones she didn’t pick more than Blayne’s. She even said she wanted LeeAnn’s design for herself.
I did get to see the previews for next week, not that looks like a fun challenge!
Maybe grandma doesn’t have cable.
As much as I dislike Daniel, it wasn’t his fault that their dress sucked. But between the two, I definitely would’ve booted Blayne over Kelli. Sure, Brooke picked out his design, but it was still his responsibility to show that an out-there idea like his could actually work. He failed.
I so wanted Blayne to go! Those shorts were just all kindsa wrong, and I think maybe Brooke was coerced by the producers into picking his design no matter what it was. Every season of this show has somebody like him that they keep around for awhile just for shits and giggles. Kelli did have a major misstep with her design, but overall I feel she is more versatile and has more talent than Mr. -licious.
Keith’s design was saved by Kenlel IMO, and even though she initally wanted that 50’s kitsch kitchen fabric for the top of the dress, I feel it was her advice on the shape and construction of the top of the dress that saved it. Yeah, she is obnoxious and shrill, but she actually has a good eye and constructs garments well. I am thinking Kenley has a sure spot in the top three, so if ya’ll don’t like her, be prepared.
Khoto and Terri were utter beeyotches. So much so that I can’t decide which one was worse. Suede acted appropriately by asking Terri before he cut into her fabric, and I thought he was being a supportive little underling to her about her design, yet she verbally gutted him. She also gave him the most difficult part of the outfit to make, while she put together a simple black pant, most of which was going to be covered anyway. Too bad, because up until now, I really liked the way her personality was portrayed, as if she was rather easy-going. She seemed downright homophobic and insulting to Suede. Someone needs to tell her the fashion industry is nooooo place for homophobia, dear.
Khoto, on the other hand, I have never liked. She is stand-offish and comes off as if she doesn’t like anybody else because they are beneath her. Her threats to “cut” Joe were kinda scary because this girl seems completely without any sense of humor and incapable of making a joke. She’s so serious all the time that I tend to take her literally. At least Terri only verbally gutted Suede, whereas I think Khoto might not just be speaking figurtively, you know?
And another thing, Terri did comfort and encourage Leanne after Leanne’s cocktail dress fiasco, telling her that she is good designer and not to let the thrashing the judges gave her get her down. I thought that was sweet and awfully nice of her to do, so this is why I was really surprised that working with Suede brought out the worst in her. Khoto, well, I don’t think I’ve ever seen her reach out to another designer like that. She just seems to have nothing but disdain for anybody else. I hope she loses soon, but I have a feeling Khoto could design one hideous look after another and they would keep her. She’ll probably be there at the end, too.
Daniel, ugh, don’t get me started on Daniel. What a pussy.
Jerrell’s design was sublime! I would wear it right now. And like M Kors said, his look was a true collaboration with his partner, and he was truly kind to Stella and went out of his was to make her feel better about being picked last. I wish he had won.
Keith only won because of Kenley’s harping. On his own, the dress would have been too unconstructed.
The guest judge next week for the drag queen challenge is RuPaul, I think. I am looking forward to it just to see Chris again.
I was surprised that his Bermudas looked like the usual safari garb. If he had done something really usual with them, maybe he would have pulled it off. It annoys me that Blayne doesn’t know about Sgt. Pepper.
There were two or three of those outfits that looked terrific – especially Jerrell’s.
I too look forward to seeing Chris again – especially those outrageous designs!
Do you know what I miss? I would love to see…a little draping. There. I’ve said it.
I didn’t really see Koto or Terri as all that harsh. I got the sense that the “I’ll cut him” remarks were kind of jokey. I mean, they weren’t serious, I don’t think, and they both just really get into their garments. Though, yeah, admittedly, Jerell is probably the more fun guy to work with. I was thinking there would be major drama with whoever chose her, but they seemed to come together as a pair really well.
