Is anyone else watching this?? They pulled it off for a while but it’s back on now.
Basically it’s a bunch of designers competing for a contract, some money to start their own line and a chance at Fashion Week. I love the creative part of it, the commentary from the Parsons guy on the Bravo website is hysterical and insightful (in terms of design) and it has all the charm of the first Apprentice (watching people work on projects, more merit-based decisions and less politicking). Oh, and Heidi Klum runs it and there are models galore…that’s not really my bag but I understand the allure b/c even though it’s a fashion show it apparently has a really strong male base.
Oh, man, I thought my wife and I were the only people watching it. It’s more addicting than The Apprentice or American Idol. You want personalities? You want flamboyant? Most of the designers are more high strung than an inbred stallion. Watching Austin sob because he had to choose the “weak link” was better than anything on a sit-com today.
Spoiler boxes, Yorick. I saw the sobbing teaser at the end of the previous episode. Unfortunately, I didn’t have to watch the latest episode to find out why he was crying
Oh thank you thank you thank you. I’ve heard that ratings are rising (and I’m part of a Nielsen family so I’m doing my part for keeping it on the air) because this show rocks. Fashion! Drama! Heidi! Auf wiedersehn!!!
Austin…simply no words. I fell in reality love when they interviewed him wearing a hooded nightshirt. What was that? A djellaba or something???
I’ve been waiting to see if anybody else was watching this. I think Kara is going to win. I just have to love Austin, though. I never thought I’d see anybody who made Carson on Queer Eye look butch in comparison. Unfortunately, he is starting to look like a one-trick pony. The best thing about this show is the website, though. Tim’s commentaries rock.
I miss Starr, her translucent skin, trembling upper lip and hysterically bad attempts to keep up. “I’m a total Banana Republic consumer which is why I’ll design an ill-fitting goth dress for Hot Topic!!”
This is my consuming passion right now! I have never considered buying a TV series on DVD until now. I watch every rerun of this silly show.
I originally thought Wendy, Austen and Kara would be the finalists but now I think ol’ Austen (like Alexandra) just keeps designing for himself. C’mon, you know how grand he would look in his Banana Republic frock!
But now I think maybe Kevin might be a front runner. Who are your favorites for the final 3?
I don’t plan my TV watching schedule around it but if I happen across it, I can’t turn the channel. It may become a must-see for me. It is just so much fun, especially at the end when they call people out to tell them if they’re “in” or “out”. They mix it up so there some tension. Are those four the in group or the out group? What’s it gonna be???
I guess I just like the way the show is sticking to the real rules of the fashion (or any creative) business. A balance of talent, marketing, bullshit, balls and brain. No room for Starr there. Makes me wonder what kind of a lawyer she makes.
I’m almost positive Jay will make it, though…of all the designers, he seems best able to create designs that are both individual and appealing–and on the Banana Republic challenge he even managed to keep his style there while designing something that would be quite attractive in the ready-to-wear market.
Of course, if Austin keeps up with the costumey stuff, and if Nora doesn’t show us the kind of project we got from her in the first episode, they won’t make it. I think Wendy, Kara, and Kevin all stand a good chance in the second and third positions. Robert and Alexandra will probably be the next two to go–they’re both competent (Robert’s Banana Republic dress notwithstanding), but there’s no real spark there.
Yeah, I always wondered why Starr was there. While I think Mario and Daniel both deserved to be kicked off when they were, Starr deserved to be kicked off more in both cases. She never exhibited any of the characteristics necessary in the fashion world, not even well-designed outfits.
And fashion seemed a poor choice for her anyway–how can anyone that high-strung think they have the temperament to survive in an industry where even the most successful face constant criticism?
(As far as the lawyer thing goes–I believe she said she’s in corporate law, and my impression is that that’s a lot less confrontational than trial law.)
I am soooo looking forward to the Wedding Dress Competition! The Mighty Jay vs. the Flakey Morgan in a Bitchfest Not To Be Believed! Whose heart will remain unshred? Who? WHO?
Yeah, me too. She seemed to have passion yet No Clue. Maybe the hard realities of a law career made her less inclined to see beauty without ugly (I am thinking of the Tumor Dress).
