Project Runway 8/9

So we now know who’s getting kicked off, and we can get back to design, yes? We know that something’s gotten the models excited, Jeffrey’s blowing up all over Angela (could this be the famed “Get back to your macaroni art!” meltdown?), and Laura doesn’t approve, but then, Laura doesn’t seem to approve of very much. Except fur. And v-necks.

Drama or no, I’m still excited. Anyone else with me?

Pathetically, I look forward to this show like nothing else on TV. Why is Project Runway so addictive?

I thought this was one of the most interesting challenges so far. Having the models involved in picking designers and icons was an added bonus.

Michael’s design nailed it, and Kayne’s was very close behind. Both had the perfect icons for their style. I didn’t think Angela’s was as good as the judges seemed to think, but it was still pretty good. I was nervous what she might do when she got Audrey Hepburn.

Alison, Uli, Jeffrey, and Laura were all good updates and good outfits.

Vincent and Robert have to be getting pretty worried. No one seems to think Vincent has a clue, and that’s twice in a row that Robert has been boring.

I wasn’t surprised to see Bradley go. His outfit was competely off, and he just didn’t seem like he belonged. His little “confessionals” have been odd from the beginning.

I loved Michael’s ensemble. I thought it was perfect. I also loved Laura’s and (shocker) Angela’s.

I hated Kayne’s, so I obviously don’t know what I’m talking about.

I liked Bradley, but not Bradley’s clothes. Oh well.

Because it’s got drama and pretty clothes?

Whee! Model free for all! I thought it was kind of fun to have the models choose the fashion icons. I think there should be elements that the designers don’t control. Sad to have the models’ fate be essentially decided by lottery, though.

It was kind of amazing how well the models chose for their designers. Well, with the exception of Bradley. Cher? No. Not at all fitting for our little squid. Everyone else was a pretty good match, though.

What was the deal with Angela’s sewing machine troubles? I didn’t quite catch it, but I thought Jeffrey had a decent point - if you fuck up the machine, you sort it out. You don’t leave it for someone else to worry about.

I loved Michael’s ensemble. I thought it was perfect. I also loved Laura’s and (shocker) Angela’s.

I hated Kayne’s, so I obviously don’t know what I’m talking about.

I liked Bradley, but not Bradley’s clothes. Oh well.

Yea! Michael finally wins! I think he, of all the designers, “got” the challenge. I liked Kayne’s, Uli’s and Laura’s too, but Michaels was by far the best.

Aww, I was just starting to warm up to Bradley and his lost puppy-ness. Oh well, his design sucked and he deserved to go.

At least Robert knows whats wrong with his designs and is capable of correcting himself. Vincent is just in his own little world.

I was afraid that with Michael (finally) getting so much screen time, he’d be the one on the chopping block this week. His original design was way too low cut (bordering on the word all the judges seem to love using, “vulgar”). Even though the hot pants were, by definition, short, it really brought the entire outfit out and he deserved to win. His model and his entire look really was Pam Grier.

I really didn’t like Kayne’s dress at all. Not “bottom three” bad, but it wasn’t worthy of second place. That stretch fabric was just a mistake, IMO. He made a size negative seven model look fat and that’s not an easy thing to accomplish.

For the second week in a row, I was pleseantly surprised with Angela’s showing.

I do agree with the judge’s choice for who to cut. I actually like Bradley. As out there as his confessionals are, I get his humor. And that’s what they are. A style of humor that occassionally makes me smile. But his was the worst showing this week. . I’m not sure how you couldn’t know who Cher is or what her style is/was/should be, but he didn’t really have a clue.
As boring as Robert’s was and as wacky as Vincent’s was, I understood where they were going with the challenge. They at least both understood their icons even if they failed in execution.
Bradley didn’t even understand so there was no possible way he could execute. So they ended up executing him. Auf wiedersehen.

Is it me, or was Michael Kors out for a facelift?

I’m sad to see Bradley go. I mean, his clothes sucked the goat ass, but I liked him. But who can’t design a Cher outfit better than that?

Why isn’t Robert better? The guy designs clothes for Barbie for a living, but he can’t get “Jackie O” down? I don’t understand why he threw out his original material.

A few random thoughts:

Great challenge! So many of the icons matched the designers. Katherine Hepburn and Laura, Marilyn Monroe and Kayne, Robert Best and Jackie O. I thought Princess Di would have been a great addition.

I loved Kayne’s dress. Heidi’s right. It was genius. Uli did a great job and so did Laura and Michael. I thought Michael was going to win because he got so much screen time. He’s usually in the shadows. I loved his color choices and the detail on the top.

I really hated Robert’s. WTF was he thinking? I was shocked he wasn’t out after that bit of fugly. I also disliked Jeffrey’s and Vincent’s choices.

WTF was Heidi wearing? The dress looked like a tablecloth meets Heidi of the Alps meets a way too plunging neckline. That was easily the ugliest dress of the night.

Agreed. Those butt wrinkles in the sheer black stuff looked awful, and they were held in place by the seams, so it was intentional. (I suppose that would make it pleating.) The problem with putting something flesh-colored under black is that it sort of glows under the sheerness, and if the lining is saggy, then it makes it look like your skin is melting off your body. He shouldn’t have left the lining out, but I think a different color would have improved the design. Yes, the show of skin is flirtatious and daring, but it becomes less so when it makes you look saggy.

Once I saw it on the runway, I liked the front of Kayne’s dress - but the back didn’t look good. To me, at least. I’m not sure what the judges saw there. Michael’s, once he added the hot pants, was perfect. Totally deserved to win. Laura, though not their top three, did design something that looked like Katherine Hepburn.

“Fleurchons”? She needs to go just for that word alone.

I also don’t get why Robert isn’t better. I want him to do better, and he’s disappointing me. But at least it wasn’t as bad as Bradley…It’s Cher, (or modern Cher even), for goodness sakes. The only part that was right was the mistake in the way the pants were cut.

Michael cracks me up. “Captain Save-a-ho?”

It was so bizarre I wondered if Santino had designed it.

What rock was poor, sweet Bradley under all his life that he didn’t know who or what Cher was? I can’t believe it. I wonder if he was home schooled and his family had no tv, magazines or newspapers. That being said, Bye-Bye, Bradley!

What was Robert thinking? What happened to that beautiful light blue fabric he chose for the Jackie O suit? Why did he have to end up with that boring beige linen? And . . . Jackie O with a stupid rope belt on a day suit??? Give me a break!

I did love Kayne’s Marilyn outfit. I don’t like Kayne much, but I thought he really hit the Marilyn update! The dress really flowed when the model walked.

But Hooray for Michael!!! I never thought of Pam Grier as a “fashion icon” myself. But the outfit was pretty terrific and I was glad to see him get some recognition.

Why does Laura always end up in the middle of the pack? Her Katharine Hepburn outfit was gorgeous and spot on for the icon. Much better than Angela’s overworked Audrey Hepburn outfit which, I thought, was too low cut for Audrey.
(By the way, ACCESS HOLLYWOOD did a piece on Angela and her winning outfit from last week. It’s selling at Macy’s for $129 for the jacket, $89 for the pants and $39 for the t-shirt! Wonder how much it will go for on the closeout rack? Meow!)

I thought Jeffrey Tinyhead’s Madonna outfit was ugly. I don’t think Madonna would have worn it.

I got the impression that he knew who she was just didn’t begin to know what to do with her style. It’s too bad. I liked Bradley. Not his designs so much, but like Ender said, I get his humor.

Thank you. I hated it.

Michael definitely deserved to win. I did like Kayne’s but agree that if a dress shows fat on a model, something’s wrong. I didn’t like Angela’s dress at all, but I can’t stand her so I’ll chalk it up to bias.

I thought Jeffrey’s outfit was just wretched. For someone who’s never won a challenge, he still has quite the attitude.

It seems to me that the frontrunners are Kayne, Uli, and Michael.

Alison’s outfit was lame. Robert’s been in a fog–maybe he needs to think of designs for Barbie rather than humans? That first dress he did was great and very “Barbie-ish.” Laura’s stuff is good but predictable. Vincent sucks.

Michael deserved to win. His design was pitch-perfect, and I’m glad the judges are finally recognizing his talent.

Kayne’s dress was a great idea and well-executed. But the black sheer over the nude fabric made the model’s butt shine like the eyes of a bug. Other than that, it was Marilyn all the way.

I’m getting more and more disappointed in Robert. I hated his design last week, but hoped it was just a blip. This week, he abandoned that beautifully Tiffany-esque fabric for Vincent’s castoff linen. He should stick to his instincts and stop second-guessing himself. I would have loved to see what he could pull off with that, but instead, it was loose, wrinkled, untailored, and not at all Jackie O. I hope he pulls himself out of the slump next week.

Alison’s was just too little. Inoffensive, but nothing special. Farrah is more POW than that. I thought the hair was better than the dress.

Laura’s was spot-on for Katharine Hepburn, but other than the open neckline, it wasn’t much of an update; I think she would have worn it 1959. But by getting an understated idol, Laura was effectively relegated to the background.

I liked Angela’s design, though I wish she’d left that rosette off the hip and toned down the ruffles a little. The texture was nice, but Audrey Hepburn doesn’t need flourishes. She is the flourish. Still, it looks like Angela’s found her groove.

Bradley was sweet but out of his depth, and he deserved to go. The outfit was all wrong and badly made: a clear decision if there ever was one.

Jeffrey’s was an update of the Boy-Toy look, which Madonna abandoned years ago, and it looked messy and odd. Yes, Madonna often looks messy and odd, but I wish he’d done something more akin to what she’s been wearing this decade.

Uli’s was well done and very Diana Ross, but not good enough to knock the others out of the top 3 spot. I liked the print, but it was, again, a flowing A-line dress, which seems to be the only thing Uli can do. I’m not a fan. At least this week, for the very first time, the waist of Uli’s dress didn’t come right up to the bustline.

Vincent’s was both blah and strange. Tough combo to hit.

I thought this was an excellent challenge, and I’m happy with both the winner and the loser, which is rare. I did think the hair and makeup was done especially well this week, and I’m happy that Michael is finally in the limelight.

Does anyone know where we can find that ad for Tresemme online?

Poor Bradley. Last chosen in kickball by the models. And then his model was last in the model-free-for-all to choose an icon.

I think Robert is trying *too * hard to not have “Barbie” designs. He’s trying to be safe and adult and that just reads as boring.

And this is the only show I look forward to, too. I want Tim Gunn to adopt me.
