I think the right person was sent home first. Good riddance.
Much as I like Peach, I think her outfit was the second worst. She is so confused and seems to have no idea what she’s doing. But the crying dude was just… pitiful.
Liked the winner, but there were a couple in the “safe only” group that I actually liked better. Although I could see why it was a good one for the billboard.
Oh, and what’s with there being no Tim Gunn blog on their website?
Finally, with the new 90-minute time allotment, I wish we had more Tim and fewer commercials (yeah, I’m delusional).
I am SO glad Jason got sent home. On technical skills, he should have gone last week, but he did have a good portfolio and, probably more importantly, made a great “villain” during his short run. Blaming his model was such a bad bad move. His styling and picture selection was atrocious. And the safety pins. Awful
I wish Nicholas (I think that’s the crying guy’s name) had gotten another chance. His cape may have been prehistoric design and his blouse was all sorts of wrong in the back, but he at least picked a vision and stayed with it, unlike totally lost Peach. ideally for me, both of them would have stayed.
I’m probably in the minority, but I’d rather have the 30-minute “Models of the Runway” show back instead of the extra time on PR. I’d LOVE to hear what Jason’s model thinks about him–he seemed like such a creep. And i always liked the drama over picking models for each challenge in the past.
The photo that Jason chose from the shoot guaranteed that he would get sent home. Even the shooting director tried to talk him out of it.
I really liked Gretchen’s winning outfit last week, but not so much this week’s winner. Put a name patch on it, and it would have been perfect for a mechanic. I was kind of hoping Mondo would win, even if he is a bit weird.
I loved when one of the Michael’s was talking about psycho Jason and the scissors.
I always just assume there’s some level of tailoring or something I can’t see when I can’t wrap my head around the win. A jumpsuit, really? I mean, it’s not like I’m Captain Fashion so what do I know.
My own personal preference was for Valerie’s red dress.
Was anyone else amused to find out Tim Gunn knows who Blanche Devereaux is?
I really don’t understand how Rosie the Riveter won that challenge. I thought for sure she would be in the bottom three. I guess Mary Clare readers *want *to look like 1940s factory workers.
I am glad that Jason went home. He seemed like a dick and made crappy clothes.
Oh, of course Tim Gunn knows who Blanche Devereaux is. He’s exactly the sort of person for whom Golden Girls was appointment tv. Don’t be silly.
I thought the winning design was dreadful, but it did make a pretty nice billboard. The thing about all the distance on a billboard, you often don’t see a lot detail even though the image is huge.
I didn’t watch the first hour because it’s so long now that it’s 90 minutes and um, Real Housewives DC was on. But I agree that the right guy went home but the top 3 didn’t impress me all that much either.
I must be in the minority because i thought the winning design was great, although i wouldn’t have been unhappy if the red dress had been given the nod.
I was a fan of Andy’s offering, especially the little fold-down sleeves on the blouse, and i was hoping to see him in the top three, although it was nice to see poor, lonely Mondo do well.
Disclaimer: My gf loves this show so I watch it with her.
I’m not getting the hate on Gretchen’s design. The task was clear: 1. Make something people who read Mary Claire would like and, equally importantly, 2. It has to look good on a billboard. I don’t have the first clue about Mary Claire magazine but she clearly nailed the second part. Most of the others didn’t. The biggest failing that most designers have on that show is that they make each design part of their own personal vision and don’t stay on task.
I’m glad that they got rid of Laurel and Hardy hat guy. His technical skills sucked. You just know that he bought the hat just for the show because he thought that he needed a gimmick.
Which brings me to Mondo. What a jackass. If you want to be accepted in society, don’t look like a freak. If you want to look like a freak, don’t pick up every brightly colored thing you can find at a cheap costume shop and stick it all over yourself like a child’s collage art project, at least have a sense of purpose. If you must do that, own it and have some confidence and stop with the mock bewilderment about why people look at you funny.
Maybe it’s just me, but unlike other seasons hardly anybody seems to have personality. The only two that stand out to me are Casanova and Mondo, “I keep to myself and I feel so lonely.”
Being from Oregon I’m rooting(sp?) for Gretchen. I’m glad she won twice. Go fellow Oregonian!
Question, what was up with kimono boy complaining about his model? I’m guessing he had to switch models but that’s pretty par for the course, plus it was only one challenge in. It’s not as though he’d had her for several challenges.
He was complaining about his model because he didn’t want to accept responsibility for a bad garment, bad styling, and bad photo selection. He seems to think that a “runway model” would somehow overcome the massive defects in his garment.
Nitpick: It’s Marie Claire, not Mary Claire.
eenerms, most seasons have been in New York. Only season 6 was elsewhere, in LA. That season suffered, I think, because Nina Garcia and Michael Kors weren’t available for judging nearly as often as normal.
