Project Runway Aug 5 - spoilers included

Well you know how it is for a straight man in a gay man’s world.

I thought the winner should have been Valerie (the red dress). And I agree with the first loser, but I don’t think the second loser should have gone…

One would think. But NO. DO you forget the random stain dress that won a challenge, that Heidi praised as being something she would wear, that Tim Gunn rolled his eyes at, and vowed to purchase at the post season auction, and make Heidi wear?

Ha! Awesome.

I didn’t know they had a post season auction. Is this always done and what happens with the proceeds? I’m trying to think of which items I’d be bidding on if I had that kind of money and wanted something from Proj Runway. I’m thinking at least a couple of season 4 denim challenge dresses…maybe a drag queen outfit or two (hey, for conversation pieces, way better than a coffee table).

It’s back! I’ve been watching the contestant trailers, most of the designers seem to have a strong pov and real work ethic, though a few rambled on like it was an episode of cribs…“and here is my fridge, here is the booze in my fridge, see my stove, watch me light the burner”…:dubious:

I’m liking Valerie, gretchen, Sarah, Mondo, few others…

And they reworked the theme music, sounding good too.

No such luck. This is Lifetime, not Bravo. Last night was the first time they replayed the ep since it aired. I guess Lifetime just has too much original programming to squeeze in a rerun of this show they payed a bajillion dollars for. But seriously, watching the ads, Lifetime seriously has like 10 original series going right now. Whither the Lifetime Original Movie?

They can’t show another rerun—that’ll cut into a showing of Army Wives or Drop Dead Diva, dammit!

Incidentally, it’s starting to feel a little ridiculous with all the footage they stick in now. Seeing all the people in the room behind waiting for the people to walk in…do we really need to see THAT much? It’s getting so tedious.

Yeah, with the stupid hat. (I like bowler hats on some people, but not on him.)

He’s the one who (according to Tom and Lorenzo, anyway) cites Pee Wee Herman as a fashion inspiration.

They’ve already had a winner who was a slightly mousy earthy chick from Portland, so I wonder if the producers will let her go all the way. Of course, Leanne was one of my favorite designers on the show so far, both in personality and in design, so I’ll probably like Gretchen too if she ever makes anything interesting.

It’s a little bit of a shame Jason left, as the AV Club reviewer had just dubbed him Oddjob, but he actually stayed on about a week longer than he should have. I get the feeling that he embraces the “punk” aesthetic because he thinks it covers up or excuses his shitty sewing.

Peach’s days are numbered. I like her a lot, but Heidi thinks she’s a seamstress. Peach could dig deep and come up with something stunning and innovative, and Heidi would turn up her nose at it and call it wearable.

Nothing Heidi hates more in this world than a seamstress, AFAICT.

Looking at that picture is like looking at a barber with a bad hair cut.

Late to the party as usual, but I just saw it.

You’re not alone. I don’t think they did model selection this time, but I like to see that. I also like to see what the models have to say about the designs and the designers IF it is relevant and insightful (or just plain funny a la Cerri). Folding some of that content into the main show would be an ideal solution.

He said on the first ep that he wore it to be intimidating. Bwuh? And the moment he met Gretchen, he asked her what her ethnic backround was, apparently so he could announce that he was 100% Italian. Is he trying to work the mafia angle or something? Is he trying to imply that if someone poaches his favorite model that Jimmy the Seam Ripper will come after them?

It was the same model. Frankly, I don’t think she was a very good runway model, but so what? Even Tanisha couldn’t have saved that piece of garbage.

Tom and Lorenzo addressed this beautifully. Note that they are definitely not in the habit of commenting on these sorts of issues, but I guess this one put them over the top. Here’s what they said:

I loved the TLo take on the “straight man in a gay man’s world” comment, but there was another point brought up in the comments thread of that post that needs mentioned in the context of the show: the winner last season was Seth Aaron Henderson, a straight man who’s married with children. Jason’s not just an asshole, he’s one who doesn’t pay attention to the show.

(I’ll admit I don’t know when they started filming this season, and I suppose it’s possible that Seth Aaron hadn’t won on screen when Jason started filming. However, if he’d been a bigger fan of the show to begin with, he would have seen Seth Aaron’s collection on Project Rungay and known S.A. was at least top 10.)

Jeffrey Sebelia, the winner of season three, also was a straight man with a girlfriend and a kid.
