That really was an amazing dress. Although it was far and away Wendy’s best effort, I think Jay’s should have won. Jay also worked well as a team leader on the collaboration project. I think you’re right that he has the inside track.
I loved the Empire State Buildung dress too but I can think of 2 reasons why it wasn’t the winner. One being that it was not a universally figure flattering style and two is that it would have been expensive to manufacture with all the insets and pleats.
That’s what is is making this show so much fun - for all the flashy, diva behaviors there is still a big fat reality streak running through it.
Not just that he was a good team leader, but his dress was far better than the other two. (Someone walked by and said it was a work of art. (I was only paying half attention) that person was right.)
Yeah, Starr just screamed ‘hobbyist.’ She did OK designing stuff that suits her, but for the mass market? Not so much.
I liked her Deco dress, but it definitely wasn’t Banana Republic.
Austin cracks me up. He’s a bigger drama queen than I am, and that’s pretty scary. And I want to know how he gets those waves into his hair. I’ve been trying since I saw “Chicago,” and I can’t get it right.
Austin looks exactly like the Elf-who-wants-to-be-a-dentist in the ‘Rudolf the Rednosed Reindeer’ Christmas special to me.
YES! That’s who he reminds me of. Was it Hermie or Herbie? I didn’t want to admit it but I am addicted to this show. Addicted! It’s like high-strung-crack.
I checked - his name was Hermey. But he still looks like Austin.
Gawd, I love this show…I can watch it over and over and not get tired of it.
The competition within a competition for the models is great as well. The producers for “America’s Next Top Model” need to get some tips from the models on ‘Project Runway"…these girls know how to move and SA-SHAY. ANTM got nothin’ on these girls.
I had Vanessa, Kara and Jay as my favorites. Vanessa and Kara have consistenly turned up some really great design ideas. Jay is great too, but his commentary is even better.
I had Vanessa as my number one pick until she shot herself in the foot. Crossing my fingers for Kara and Jay.
For all her drama, Morgan has got the Walk, alrighty.
I think I need to watch the first episode again just to see the All Models Strut as lead by Heidi…
He looks like that to me too, but with a splash of a young Truman Capote and Andy Warhol thrown in for good measure. Austin is my favorite, followed by Jay. I’m afraid Austin’s talents may be limited to more costume-ish outfits though, so I’m betting Jay will be the winner. I was also pulling for Nora until she had her “Everybody hates me!” temper tantrum last week. What a drama queen! Of course, Austin is probably the biggest drama queen on the whole show, but when he throws himself across the couch and sobs broken-heartedly for no good reason, it’s kind of endearing. When Nora did it it was just ugly.
Love this show! Definite TV crack.
Probably? Jeez, he’s the biggest drama queen anywhere. Sometimes I just shake my head and think “Nobody is that big a queen.”
Oh, I dunno… Look at his outfit in one of the after-interviews: glossy red lips, black fur coat, eyeliner and a Farrah Fawcett-flip. That is some comely ensemble.
Episode 6 previews are up and it looks to be a good one! Jay and Morgan are screaming “I quit!” and Jay is seen clubbing Austen over the head with his bag! The drama! The screams! The defiant acts of divaism! Whooo hoooo! Fashion Industry Party hijinks!
Who wants to lay odds Austen sits in the bottom of who gets scrapped again?
I’m really looking forward to seeing exactly what’s going on between Jay and Austin in that little clip.
I agree that Austin’ll probably be in the bottom two again. He’s just barely scraping by lately, and after that horrible terrible no-good very bad wedding dress this past episode, I think he deserves to go.
I’ll miss his drama queenery to no end, but he just can’t design actual clothes.
I think Wendy’s also in trouble; nobody seems to like her work at all (excepting the Banana Republic challenge, which basically ended up testing her skill at mimicry).
I liked her wedding dress.
I had mixed feelings about Kara Saun’s. It was beautiful, and the model obviously loved it. But that was a whole lot of cleavage for a wedding dress. Not that they necessarily have to be virginal or turtleneck-y, but that thing was really low cut.
I think Wendy’s getting stronger since they did her hair. Her Banana Republic win and the Wedding Dress were really good. Although I can’t see her aesthetic winning swim wear.
I hope we are only seeing Jay letting off steam instead of flaming (forgive the pun) out. He has been such a steady designer and calming presence I want him to stay in for the whole series.
Wendy? I was for her originally but I think the scheming has gotten in the way. Looks like she’s trained her guns on Austin.
I think Kara is gonna take the whole thing.
I actually liked her wedding dress a lot (even though I’ve come to despise her), but based on a bit of the judges’ comments and Tim’s commentary on the website, it wasn’t viewed all that favorably by the people who matter. Maybe I’m just reading doom into her future because I hope it’s true, though.
Another comment on the dresses: I wish Morgan had let Jay take her dress up. It looked beautiful on her, but her inability to walk in it may have cost him the competition.
Worse, Morgan seemed to forget all of her professionalism on the runway and take the ‘client’ thing way too far. That could have cost Jay as well. And yet, someone picks her to work with again this week!
Does anybody else make a beeline to Tim’s Take first thing the following morning?
I have no idea why I watch this show. Truly, no idea. I don’t watch ANY reality tv shows. Not Apprentice, not Survivor, not -shudder- Who’s Your Daddy? Nothing. And yet…and yet…God, why the hell do I keep watching this thing? Every week I keep tuning in. Someone stop me!
And this week I too am a Nielsen Family. I’m giving it ratings!
I’m really not impressed with most of their designs. I REALLY loved the Sears Tower art deco dress, but overall no one on here shines as a truly fabulous designer. They all seem competant and, I suppose, if given enough time to make something rather than just 24 hours, they might blow me away with their originality. But most of the creations seem rather ordinary for a nationwide search and hand selected batch of upcoming designers.
