I actually seem to enjoy the complete lack of coverage on Alexandra. I have no feelings on her one way or the other but I find it amusing that she’s warranted 5 minutes of air time over the entire series so far.
Austin will be out in 5, cut by Wendy who herself will leave in the 4th spot. Robert, who seems hit and miss will finally miss at #6.
I suspect you’re right. Where does Alexandra fall in there? She has remained solidly in the middle so far so a flameout by one of the big three could open up the way for her. I don’t see her wining but possibly placing.
(To tell the truth, I don’t watch reality series at all. I don’t even watch much network programming but this is addictive!)
<Later in the series, after the swimsuit challenge>
Well, now we know what happens to Alexandra! It was fun at the last commercial break wondering which was the greater sin - too weird or ‘copying’.
I thought Wendy had shot herself in the foot when she admitted to not making something right but from the clips from next week I think her machinations will get her in the next challenge.
I discovered this series last Sunday morning (wedding dress episode) and I have absolutely flipped! I’m hooked. These folks are all nuts! But maybe that’s what makes it so interesting. No, I take that back; it’s Austin’s hair and makeup sessions that make it interesting.
The swimsuit competition was a challenge. I liked Kara’s white ensemble, especially with her concept behind the design. And I thought Austin really carried off his theme of Venus rising from the water. It made sense that he won.
I could not understand the judges’ affection for Jay’s Bondage Bikini. That looked painful to wear.
I’d never wear it, and not just because I don’t have a body like the model’s. I would hate hassling with all those straps and trying to remember how to put the suit on. When you need help figuring out what goes where, and the helper is nearly as clueless as you, and that helper is the designer of the outfit, that’s an outfit that’s way too much of a headache to be bothered with. I was sure it would be either Wendy because she admitted her suit wasn’t technically finished and the writer seemed disappointed in her inability to schmooze at the party. I’ll admit, too, I was surprised Robert came through relatively unscathed after the big Morgan fiasco. And her temper tantrum the next day; what an immature brat. She should be booted next episode.
Finally, that was a lot of 16 year old ass on Melissa there! Ay yi yi! She and her suit were GORGEOUS but I hope the men who spent the evening ogling her backside felt appropriately ashamed the next day!
Austin: “I wanted to swath her in wind, water and mist…”
It was one of the least costumey things Austin has done but it was his over-the-top antics (and Melissa’s butt) that took the prize. Interestingly, he is now the youngest competitor.
Yeah, don’t look now, but I think she’s gonna get it next time. She is a liabilty and no one can afford that. Also, it seems to me that she’s lost whatever professionalism she might have had. Talking back the the judges on the wedding dress episode and stumbling down the steps was not the mark of a pro. I think she’s been listening to everyone talk about how great she is and believes she can do no wrong. Kevin was not smart to let her wear that outfit anywhere out of his sight. He was just lucky she only ripped it.
That was Kevin that had to endure Morgan this time. Robert is the guy who thinks that “women are like sports cars.” I swear I’ve heard a character in a movie say the exact same thing–the writer’s intention being to convey to the audience what a chauvinistic jerk that character is.
I do! I do feel ashamed! :o
Oh, wait, you meant the ones who were actually there, right?
Ok ladies and gentlemen, it’s Wednesday and time for another fun-filled, diva-ridden episode of the show we’ve all come to love! Personally, I am a bit confused about what’s going on tonight since the teaser at the end of the swimsuit episode doesn’t quite match up with the Bravo promos. They are going to design a collection together independently for the future? And someone has to be chosen as the Lead Designer? Uh oh… no wonder Wendy is unhappy.
I forsee Jay doing well since ‘Hookers in 2055’ is his favorite theme!
I don’t care much for Wendy. She’s a snake and I find her personality annoying. But she was right about Kevin. He didn’t lead the group, he just let everyone do their own thing. He deserved to go.
I am not all that savvy about ‘normal’ fashion (like the clothes I wear to work, or on a date, or whatever) and I am clueless when it comes to high concept fashion on the runways of New York. Personally, I think a lot of it is impractical and that the designers and critics are frequently full of shit. Their creations and critiques often amount to nothing more than mutual masturbation over a bunch of clothes that will never be worn off the runway.
With that as a qualifier, I thought Robert’s outfit was ridiculous, even within the context of the challenge. It was just ugly. Different, yes, but ugly. I thought Wendy’s design looked fine–nothing special, but certainly not ugly. But that one judge just reamed Wendy about it (“it looks like something a cat would cough up after eating a roll of yarn”) and they loved Robert’s.
I think Kara will win the whole shebang if she can get to the final three, which shouldn’t be a problem for her.
I’m hoping to see Kara, Austin, and Jay as the final three. I think they all have a chance of winning. I just don’t like Wendy, she’s bitchy and blames all the problems w/ her designs on the others. She’s way too focused on what they’re doing, even when they’re not working as a group, and not focused enough on what she’s doing.
Either her or Robert will be gone in the next episode, I predict - and I won’t be sad about seeing either of them go. Robert just annoys me, and I generally think his designs are neither great nor awful, just meh. I can’t see him winning unless he comes up w/ something spectacular.
On a related note, my roommate was looking on Myspace.com to find a mutual friend’s profile, and found Austin’s instead! (she browsed “gay, brooklyn” I think).
That’s just fun! Pretty sure it’s really his, too. It seems too much like a real profile and not enough over-the-top to be a joke. I want to be Austin’s friend!
I think Kara, Jay and Austin are the obvious finalists which makes me think there will be a twist. It’s too predictable. Of course those three have proved themselves through the whole show and if the show is really ‘real’ they should be in the finals. But, does that make for good tv?
I dunno.
But now I am wondering how much time and resources they will have for the final three way showdown.
Has anyone else gone over to the Project Runway message boards at Bravo? Some are a hoot - once you get past all the ‘I LUV Austin!’ posts.
Anyway, the board is revealing some interesting bits (Kevin is looking for a Russian mail order bride and gets to show at the New York Fashion week without PR?) but they have the Wendy website where she speaks openly about some of the aspects that shaped every episode. Good reading.
If anyone is interested, I found a great interview with Vanessa Riley that is also very revealing. It seems there is going to be a reunion episode but Bravo is not paying for the airfare or hotel. None of the designers were paid for their appearance in the show either and the Mario guy even quit his job to be on it.
Hmmmm, I am starting to think I am fixated here… but I have found out that the Project Runway finalists will be showing at Fashion Week this Friday at 11am. So we now know that the winner has not been determined as of yet.
Also, for all the Wendy-bashers, there is some whisper going around that she is in the final 3 but I have also seen some bits of news that may negate that.
In any event, can’t wait to see Austin’s knobby knees in postal shorts!
