OMG, kiz, you are right. Tim in uncharacteristically quiet. Very sad.
I feel like Anya knew how to sew way before she says she did.
Yeah, something’s weird about that story and they keep bringing it up on the show, which makes me think they may be going somewhere with it. But I hope it’s nothing because Anya seems pretty great. Not only is she one of the better designers, she also appears to be really nice. And cute. There’s an awful lot of bitchiness (mainly from the guys) and whining this season, but Anya seems very good-natured and just rolls with the punches.
This season hasn’t started well at all. Anya, Kimberly, and Becky are my favorite designers so far, but none really impress me.
I liked Bert at first, but he is having a tough time. It looks like not many people like him, and he has responded by being a jerk. I wonder if he is covering up memory problems by saying it is not important to learn names. Unfortunately, most people who become alcohol abusers do so because of underlying emotional issues. I worry that his fragility is being expressed as anger.
Poor Becky didn’t know how to respond to Bedazzled Joshua because most of us aren’t used to that level of bitchiness. He needs to go.
It does seem like Tim Gunn now exists solely to float into the workroom, soy “Make it work!” and leave. It’s let having Gary Coleman say “Whatcho talkin’ 'bout, Willis?”, just a caricature of what Tim used to be. Maybe he should just start saying “Dyne-O-Mite!” instead. I miss the non-android Tim.

Unfortunately, I think that’s all surface and she’s actually a stealth bitch–the kind who pulls that Mean Girls ostracism shit and then if you have something she wants, pushes an unwarranted intimacy so you’ll either feel obligated to be nice to her because she’s really so nice or just to get her out of your face. And whether you fall in line or not, other people mainly remember that she was trying to be your friend.
She was right up in there with Josh shooting Becky down. Until, of course, she needed Becky to sew her whole dress for her. Then when he decided to confront Becky and claim she’s totally misinterpreting being called dowdy, Anya was right there with him pinning her in a corner and saying, “oh no, that’s not a bad thing, why are you so upset?” When Becky retreated to the bathroom, there’s Anya shoving into the goddamn stall and asking for hugs.
Every step of it is classic stealth bitch.
And her much-vaunted maxi dress was crap. You could buy something just like it at Target. The damn stripe wasn’t even sewn on well. I could have down a less rumpled job of it and I’ve made exactly one garment in my entire life back in home ec.
Josh was so horrid. There’s just absolutely no excuse for him. And then the continuing to pick on her while she cried. I can’t believe no one stood up to him. Everyone in the room was obviously uncomfortable.
Anya, I just don’t know yet. I don’t think she’s responsible for supporting what are, in fact, her competition. She was decent enough, and validated the pain without taking it on herself. I think she showed pretty good management by encouraging positive production without getting emotional herself. Is she unsympathetic or just self-contained? It’s hard to tell from the outside.
Cecilia seems to have fallen in love, and then succumbed to survivor’s guilt. I’ll be interested to find out whether they ever coupled up.
Josh is evil, and Bert is only better because he’s not as good at it.
I actually liked the grey dress, but I’m from the era of broomstick skirts. The retail iteration of it that Citizen linked for us is appalling. It looks like a Halloween costume for a third - world prison denizen.
Josh is a vicious conniving pile of product.
Now that you mention it, you’re right about Tim. He seems less involved. He obviously felt that they had “stuck to the facts” on the runway, when true facts were in short supply. I can’t believe he wouldn’t speak up if he’d known about Josh’s behavior. Tim is not nice to mean people.
The lack of current info leads me to believe that Josh will get his comeuppance soon. I can’t wait.
Mr. Waitingfortherightgirl has a lot to prove; I doubt he’s up to it.
TruCelt - Just to be clear - you think Josh is a Bad Guy, right?

Subtlety has never been my strong point. . .
How long is that Anya going to get away with the ‘same’ design and having someone else sew for her?
Excellent point. It really is exactly the same each time. (With or without the flowing skirt.) And if TheEvilOne hadn’t added the racing stripe, it would have been more obvious.
I’m sure after another auf or two they’ll stop helping her.
Are those sleeves tucked into the belt?!? Seems…practical.
OMG this is just awful. I’m sorry I looked. The cape is shapeless and reversible from tacky shiny sharksuit grey to what appears to be cheap black jersey. It’s a cut only a big girl could love, the sort of thing we love to hide in. And it only comes in size “Small.” And they’d have to move the decimal to make it a good value.
And look at this: Long double cuffs, purposefully cut to look three inches too short. And even at that, instead of making her arms look long and lanky, it hits at just the wrong spot and makes them look freakishly short instead.
Whoever runs that factory HATES Heidi.
Least you don’t have to iron it:p
That dress is totally see-through, you can especially tell from the rear view. And the one review trashes it, says the silk is cheap and itchy.
Itchy silk?!? that’s hilarious! It’s like the time I wrote a four-word restaurant review: “The salmon was tough.”
What’s the SD opinion? Was last night’s auffing correct?
I thought Olivier’s item was even worse than Joshua’s. I would have rated Anya’s higher than the winner.
Olivieieier’s was by far the worst. It was dull, unattractive, and horribly made. But he’s a blond Asian with a British accent, so he has to stay far past his due.
I even thought Bert’s was worse than the actual loser. It was just hideous. There’s a fine line between avant garde and ridiculous, and they’re not mutually exclusive, but avant garde pieces should make you think something other than “damn, she has a great big ass a lot of shit stuck to her”.
The winning dress was a nice design, but it was one of the least avant garde looks out there and the construction was unforgivably awful considering that they had two days for the challenge.
Speaking of which, this was one of the first times I can remember that they gave them two days for an individual challenge and didn’t throw in some twist. I totally thought Tim was going to come in the second day and say they had to make a ready-to-wear look as well, perhaps for the art student herself.
Wow. Those were some lame outfits. I thought Anya’s was the best, but that isn’t saying much. Josh just had to go. He isn’t a good designer yet–or maybe ever.
I thought some of the paintings were pretty good. With the exception of Bert’s cubism piece and the dead tree, which were awful, the rest weren’t bad.
Anya has made the same halter top in every single one of her challenges. I’m guessing that she can’t do a set in sleeve. I wouldn’t be surprised if she couldn’t even do a drop in sleeve.
I liked the winner, but the construction issues would have made me think twice about it. I’m not sure if I hated Josh M’s dress all on its own merits or just really didn’t like it and thought even less of it because it was Josh M’s. I also thought that “rose” thing that Laura did looked like a bad prom dress and was surprised that it was in the top 3.
Oliver’s was awful. Josh C’s model might be going wait tables at an S&M themed restaurant, but at least that’s somewhere. I have no idea where Oliver’s model is going in that thing.
