OMG, that lead singer was HAWT.
Had to get that out of the way.
So glad to see Olivier auf’d. That was ridiculous. I don’t know which was uglier–his outfit or his attitude.

When the band started playing and Oliver put his hands over his ears, I kinda liked how Burt said that Oliver is a little… well… delicate. I thought of that when he looked like he was going to faint at the idea of having to make clothes for a normal person. It just offended his delicateness.
I don’t think I’ve been this glad to see someone auffed in PR in a very long time. Olivererereiererer was one of the least appealing human beings to ever set foot on this show. What a whiny, condescending, smug, one note, vapid, self involved bore! Even Tim did not look displeased to see him go.
I couldn’t believe when he was calling the lead singer fat, right to his face. I thought he should have gone last week, so I was relieved when he went home this week instead of having the producers keep him on for drama or controversy, or something stupid like that.
I tend to agree, although it’s also good to see the designers working outside their comfort zone.
The right person went home, although Anya was pretty damn lucky, especially with the big fucking hole in the back of her pants. Or “pant,” as one is apparently required to say in the fashion world.
I also thought the winning look was the right choice, although i have no idea what the judges saw in Josh’s outfit. My wife and i were literally laughing out loud at it, and the sad-sack way that the guy was standing, with his shoulders hunched over, just made it even more funny.
When they keep showing short clips of the designers bashing Bert’s outfit, then I know he’ll end up doing well. As for Josh, I see he’s dialed way back on the crazy. I think it scared him when the judges commented on him not getting along with people last time. And usually craziness tends to make me see people as uglier than they really are, this is not the case with Josh. He is exceedingly good-looking, crazy or not. Those last three outfits were so wretched.
I wonder if Olivier has Asperger’s. If he does, that would explain a lot of the issues he had on the show…
That said, he did deserve to go. That shirt was HIDEOUS!
I’m glad Anya managed to squeak through since she’s one of my picks to make it to the finals. It was a horrible outfit, but at least she has sense enough to know it.
I agree, the hand flails capped it for me. Also his choice of such non-assertive colors and the way he just gets completely derailed by human interaction. Somewhere on the autism spectrum for sure.
Which, if it’s true, kinda makes him a hero for getting as far as he did. Buthonestly it wasn’t just the print, which was wildly inappropriate, but the design was jsut completely off. The pockets were too large and too high in the shirt, the tail was too short, and shaped wrong for a large guy.
The neckline of Bert’s top had a hospital gown vibe to it, but I absolutely loved the pants he made. The vertical stripes were just the sort of trompe l’oeil trick that I’m expecting a designer to be able to pull for their clients.
Anya’s top was yuck, but I liked the detail and placment of the pockets on her pants.
Viktor and Kimberley are my two favorites for sure. I want to see them both in the finals - so far Viktor is barely in the lead for my “win” vote.
Overall though, the level of achievement here has been dismal. The last two challenges came down to “Everybody failed to meet the true challenge, so whoever made something the least formulaic wins.” They may need to re-tool and give more time for each challenge in order to keep the competition alive. Or just start each competition with two weeks of sewing lessons so that the designs aren’t dragged down by the execution. The current format leaves no chance to start over if something’s not working.
All in all, a good episode. Kid More Delicate Than Spun Sugar In A Tornado goes home, and the clients were a bunch of cute Vikings.
Although, it concerns me just ever so slightly that Josh and I seem to have the same taste in bears.
Seriously though, when I saw Viktor’s braided jacket, my jaw hit the floor. I’ve done fringe, I’ve done braiding (utterly hate them both!) and I’ve made leather jackets. To do that along with the shirt and jeans in one day (more or less) was a hell of an achievement.
Is it Bryce and Danielle that still talk about Bert’s performance during the Week 5 team challenge? Did they even hear the judges say that out of the three of them, Bert’s vision was the correct one?
I think the top three will be Anya, Bert, and Viktor. Anya will win. You heard it here first. Tim is so sweet- I just love him. Tim Gunn never went Hollywood. Josh, why do you have to be so goddamned good looking, gah! I was astonished at how much he argued with Heidi et al. Didn’t the blonde lose her money last week? Did I dream that? WTF?
Again, I don’t get it at all. My favorites were Kimberly’s vest/pant thing and then Viktor’s snakeskin dress (it was so strange that they kept talking about the other outfit/t-shirt when the dress was way better). And Bert had the highest average of the night (neither was one of my favorites, but both were pretty good). And Anya won? Why? Another vest with untailored pants? And not even a particularly good vest with untailored pants.
Josh deserved the auf. He needs to go. Soon.
I’ll wait for TLo’s commentary on these inexplicable happenings because other than last season’s “The judges are smoking crack” theory, I’ve got nothing other than they LOVE Anya, particularly Nina. She was practically swooning over Anya’s quick-study ability during the judging, which is indeed true – she is one of the quickest studies, IMO, I’ve seen in awhile. Did she deserve the win, though?
Bert deserved the win hands down. He knew it – you could tell by his expression. At least they acknowledged it by giving him a Piperlime exclusive too, which is great, but it’s not the same.
I wasn’t particularly wowed by Viktor’s work this week, although it was made very well, as usual. But then again I was never a “safari look” fan back in the 70s
Of course he did. But, in all honesty, you think the producers are going to let Heidi auf his little drama queen ass? Of course not.
No, the blonde went massively over budget last week. They had a $300 budget and she had over $400 of stuff. Bert was massively under budget, so he let her use his change.
I’m really starting to like Hissing Viktor. He may not know the difference between Queen Victoria and QEI, but he’s made some seriously nice stuff lately. The only quibble I had with anything he put out this week is that the jacket and t-shirt just didn’t work together. The jacket was awesome, the pants were nice, the t-shirt was great. The jacket and pants were great together, the tee and pants were great together. The three of them together…meh. His dress was wonderful, though. Very DVF, but in a totally modern fabric. I loved it as much as I loved Bert’s dress.
But I hated Anya’s looks. Both of them. Hated. The lines of the jumpsuit weren’t bad, but the way that print lined up…oy. Only former supermodels truly want horizontal stripes across their ass/hips, especially in a really loose, flowy garment.
Stupid win and stupid loss.
Anya’s jumpsuit is just like nearly everything else she’s made. She’s not original or interesting. I liked Bert’s look a lot more. Laura should have gone home for that ugly mismatched monstrosity. She made an ugly bathing suit and then an ugly towel bottom to go over it. I loved how Bert’s comments about how he got his job with Halston went right over her head. Josh’s pants reminded me of Mondo’s high waisted pants from last season’s design your own fabric challenge. Mondo did it much better.
Kimberly’s was poorly sewn in close ups. Victor’s outfit read a very drab Mary Tyler Moore look to me so I did not like it.
Ewww.. You’re kidding right? He looks like a mannequin with his black sharpie drawn eyebrows and over gelled Kewpie doll hairstyle. Oh yeah, and SNL called, Dan Akroyd and Steve Martin want their Wild-n-crazy-guy shirts back.
I cringe everytime he opens his shirt and just about barfed when I saw his hairy legs last week.
I am convinced Anya’s win this week was a pity win from the producers. I’m also convinced the second challenge was made up in a hurry to allow Anya to buy some fabric. I think her entire win was contrived by the producers because Anya’s look could be cheaply reproduced and would show well on the website. I checked piperlime.com a few hours ago. Bert’s dress sold out (at $98) and Anya’s jumper (aka jumpsuit) is still available for $198.
I don’t mind Anya but I think Viktor and Bert were robbed.
Has Bert seemed more pleasant and mellow to anyone? He was a real jerk for the first few episodes, but now he seems like more of a sweetie.
Maybe it’s just because they haven’t worked in teams recently. He was a bear in team competitions.
It appears that way but you never know with the creative editing.
