It recent months in my little rural county, I’ve seen several new dance studios spring up. I mentioned it to my daughter and her theory is that the popularity of the various dancing shows on TV have increased the demand. Seems plausible to me.
So I decided to ask: Have you noticed a similar phenomenon? And where do you live?
Like I mentioned, I live in a mostly rural area - St. Mary’s county in Maryland. And I have seen at least 2 new schools started since the spring. Before then, I was aware of only 2 others. There may be more I’m not aware of.
There definitly seems to be an increase in Jacksonville, Fl.
I live in northeast Tennessee, and I haven’t really noticed this much myself. There have been some places that appear to be new dance schools opening, but after checking, they’re all either additional locations for long-established schools in the area or they’re newer schools formerly located elsewhere in town that’re still in the process of finding a long-term place. My own dance school moved around at least 3 times when I was a kid and if you didn’t know about it, you’d think there were a bunch of schools when it was just one.
Though as I think about it, I guess the new locations for older schools could be part of the phenomenon. Two new studios (both affiliated with older schools) have opened up just off a street near my house and I did think it was a little odd to suddenly have two of them so close when there hadn’t been any dance schools nearby for a while.
We lived just south of Jacksonville in Orange Park and Green Cove Springs for a lot of years, and I know there were several in those areas 20 years ago. I wonder if any are still in business or what others may have replaced them…
