How about a DopeFest for the whole NW region, perhaps someplace between Seattle and Portland? I was thinking maybe the park at the Trojan Nuclear Power Plant, or maybe the Olympia Brewery(let’s do the tour!).
Any other suggestions?

Are there any good places to meet in Centralia or Chehalis?
I’m in, except for one thing. Well three things, actually.
When would you want to do this? Silent_Rob is coming here for a vist in July, and I am tentatively planning a DopeFest in Seattle July 19, and one in Vancouver July 20th. And we are doing a Whidby Island DopeFest at the end of June.
So, when do you want to do this? I really would like to meet the Oregon Dopers, and I hope you can see your way clear to make it possible for those of us north of you to come. I don’t have a problem with mass DopeFests, but I know that others of us actually have a life. I have a life too, but I am always happy to escape from said life. But the others…they might not want to do so many board things in so little time.
Centralia has a McMennimins (okay, it’s spelled wrong, but you knew what I meant). In general, I find the beer so-so, but the fries are great.
I know everyone has summer plans, so maybe a get-together in late July or early August?
Sounds like fun—might be a bit better attended than our strictly local ones. But I don’t know Washington well enough to suggest a place. Just remember I’m without automobile, so if any PDX Doper wants to carpool?
Anyhoo, just for the record and consideration of NW Dopers…The Oregon Brewer’s Festival is coming up the last weekend in July. I’m planning on starting a thread to try to drum up some interest in a Doper contingent to attend. (Probably not for a few weeks, though.) If any Washingtonians wanted to come down for that, it’s a pretty fun fest.
May I suggest that while a Dopefest will obviously include consumption of alcohol it would be nice if drinking weren’t the only available entertainment. The Whidby Island thing sounded fun to me because it also included a movie, a Doper recommended restaurant, and a fun town to bum around in.
I believe the Whidbye Island get together is a go, whether or not we have one in Southern WA. There will also be one July 19th in Seattle and one July 20th in Vancouver. Unless Silent_Rob’s plans change. At this point both look like they are going to work out.
Also, there’s plenty to do at the Portland Brewfest that doesn’t involve drinking alcohol, including the Mt. Angel Root Beer pavilion (very good root beer), plus good music, good food, some merchants, and a fantastic setting. It wouldn’t be very entertaining if beer were the only available entertainment.

Are we still thinking about doing this? If so, how does anyone feel about Friday or Saturday of Labor Day Weekend?
That would be August 30 or 31, right? Works for me.
Barring unforeseen circumstances, I’m down, and I’ll drag AudreyK along too. (Not that I expect much dragging to be necessary, but, eh, if need be… )
The date sounds good to me.
Yes, I am definitely in.
Wow, three 'fests in three months. How sweet is that?
Cool…I have now reserved Labor Day Weekend (in my busy schedule  )for you all. Now we just need to hammer out the details. Like…ummmm…where and when? Actually, I don’t know how you Seattle folks feel, but I wouldn’t mind taking the train all the way to Portland. Or not, as everyone else prefers.
If this a big to-do, we could make it a potluck and take it to one of the parks in Portland.
Somebody bring the Scotch eggs!
How come we haven’t heard from my darling Bumbazine?
If he can’t make it Labor Day Weekend we are just going to have to change the date. If I am going to ride the train all the way to Portland, I am going to do it on a date when I can get a BumbaHug[sup]TM[/sup] or my name is Abbercadabber. And it’s NOT!
On a related note, I am going to see AudreyK and KKB tommorow, and I will ask them about taking the train down with me…or driving down with them from Seattle. I can take the train to Seattle.
If you are starting to think I have a “thing” about trains…well, you would be correct. Things could be worse…I could have a “thing” about riding camels. Hmmm…camels…
And I thougt I was too old to blush.
Scotti darlin, you’ve made my whole week.
Unfortunately, Labor Day weekend is right out for me. A long-standing family tradition requires me to be out of town that weekend. sigh. Believe me, it has to be something important to make me pass up a hug from a gorgeous young redhead.
Maybe someone else will be kind enough to fill in for me, just this once?
Well, now I am flummoxed.
Is there a date other than Labor Day Weekend that would work for you all?
I am available, pretty much.
I am so sorry to be such a pain, but I REALLY want to meet Bumbazine.
