That’s the banner on CNN right now. Story here. Looks like a protester has climbed up the outside of the Statue of Liberty to the top of the base or Lady Liberty’s feet.
She climbed the pedestal, so they evacuated the island. I wonder what they thought she could do.
Check the statue for toenail polish.
They were probably worried she had a bomb or a rifle.
Protecting bystanders would certainly be a priority. Controlling the situation by removing variables would also have to be consideration. In the after action report after something went badly wrong, it’s usually easier to defend actions that err on the side of caution than it is to defend inaction.
Funny!
It’s just too bad someone can’t manage to instead climb the Statue of Freedom atop the US Capitol and swap out that ridiculous head-dress looking helmet that Jefferson Davis insisted on instead of the original design of a Phrygian “liberty cap” and all its freed slave symbology.
I’m only sort of kidding.
I went to the Air & Space Museum annex at Dulles the summer it opened. It was either on my birthday, or very close to it. Made a special trip; flew down from Boston in the morning, had my return ticket for that evening after the museum closed. I was kinda surprised that there wasn’t a shuttle van from the terminal to the museum, but a cab was fine.
Had seen about half the museum when the whole place was evacuated. Some protesters had sprinkled ashes on the Enola Gay. Erring on the side of caution can be a real pain in the ass.
Agreed, but… there’s always a but. I always have to look at it from their perspective. An unknown powder was distributed in a public area. Now you can claim now, with the benefit of hindsight that the security force over reacted. Fine, good on you. Prove to me here and now that the security force knew, at the time that the evacuation order was given, that there was no danger. Can you prove to me what they knew at that time?
Considering the public opinion backlash not to mention the potential for loss of life, I’m going to give them the benefit of the doubt.
The “causes” of the Left are beyond reproach. Whatever their means to get issues resolved in their favor are justified. Lying, cheating, stealing, destruction of property, injury and even death to their opposition, police or even innocent bystanders are all well within the bounds of getting their way. How dare you even consider your inconvenience to be relevant?!
Cool post/sig combo.
I disagree with this sort of protest. That said, I wouldn’t mind contributing to her defense fund.
It’s in a standoff with cops now. Holy crap!
CNN is saying the police are engaged in a rescue operation. I dunno, but I’d call it more of a capture operation.
They just grabbed her and are putting a harness on her. She had started trying to climb farther up the statue.
Don’t have a coronary, gramps, it was just a woman with a banner.
No shit. She was non violent and protesting. Some people are having a stroke because they think every holiday should be spent singing endless praises of the troops.
I think they shoulda just left her up there. She might have made one night before getting down on her own.
Well, the banner was a separate incident that came first in the link. They specifically pointed to two different incidents happening in close proximity when justifying clearing the area. I’ll throw out inspire a third person to also do dangerous stuff and potentially hurt themselves to the things they may have worried she might do.
To paraphrase the fire dispatcher, have you ever seen a protestor skeleton in a statue?
