protocol at the N.Korea-S.Korea meeting: Kim went South, Moon did not go north. Symbolism?

it was a dramatic moment as Kim met the S Korean president, and I’m sure every step of the the procession had been rehearsed by both sides.
But it all moved in one direction–from North to South.
Kim walked down the steps to the dividing line, and then crossed over to the South. He then invited Moon to take one symbolic step northwards and stand for a few seconds in the north.
But then Kim continued to follow the ceremonial guards South to the meeting hall.
Is there any importance to this?

I would have thought that Kim , with his huge ego, would demand the South come to him, to pay respects to the Great Leader, etc, etc
This is a leader who is used to having entire stadiums full of worshipers bowing down to him and singing his glories. Yet here he took part in a very modest ceremony, following in step behind Southern guards, and making him appear slightly lower on the totem pole, the weaker of two leaders.

On the other hand, I haven’t seen any commentary from any news source about these details,so maybe I’m totally off base and raising an irrelevant issue.

They held hands and crossed over together.

They met at Panmunjeom which is central to the DMZ.

The fact they were meeting is the important thing, where in the DMZ , even if it was at war time, is unimportant.
So the line that Moon crossed northward is purely symbolic, being just the middle of the DMZ.

Perhaps why he didnt bother doing it at first, it wasn’t anything much. Kim had come to to the discussion table, thats all that mattered.
That said, in year 2000 and 2007 the South Korea leader went to the PyongYang the capital of North Korea. So the DMZ meeting is totally showing how the current situation isn’t nobel peace prize stuff.
