Pseudotrition Ruber Ruber and Liberal

I tried to derail this thread with my Peloponnesian War reference, but I guess the drama factor just wasn’t high enough.

If anybody wants to talk about city-state relations in Ancient Greece and the writings of Thucydides, I’ll be over there.

Oh great, another junior mod.

“The strong do what they have to do and the weak accept what they have to accept.” – Thucyclides

Advice for friend Zebra, perhaps? :stuck_out_tongue:

You’ve got that backwards.

I think it’s rather right the way it was posted.

To the “offended” parties:

  1. Be impeccable with your word.
  2. Don’t take things personally.
  3. Don’t make assumptions.
  4. Do the best you can.

Now, look at it again from another perspective. It’s not about you…it’s about two notorious posters having a change of heart (for the better). If you’re still clinging on to their past history, then you’re the one with the problem…not them. Let it go.

Oh! I remembered incorrectly that PRR had a sock here and was banned for it. But the sock (IIRC initials were QSS) wasn’t PRR’s after all? How did they figure that out? I remember people thought it was PRR because of the initials and because he used Liberal’s old name once or twice “accidentally”. That last bit’s kind of a clever move, I thought.

There’s a difference between letting it go and joining the current chorus of “Kumbaya.” It is worth pointing out that for at least some of us, the current round of hugs and kisses doesn’t change a damn thing. It was a black eye for the boards and for all the posters involved, and it can’t be smooched better, it can only be mercifully forgotten (again). If that’s some problem of mine, so be it; I do judge people based on their past history. AFIACT some people change their hearts more frequently than they change their underwear. It’s only “for the better” if it’s permanent, you know.

I confess I never understood why anyone objected to the incident, or why the mods think they shouldn’t let it happen in the future. Just FTR.

-FrL-

Why? (And what exactly does it mean to call something a black eye for the boards?)

You would need to check with a Mod, but in my opinion it was a rather heavy handed attempt at trolling from the usual location. I would guess that a simple IP check revealed a clue to the real culpret, but that is just a guess. I doubt the sock expected to be around for long and was just looking for its own twisted bit of quick fun.

Jodi, I agree with you and I also agree with the best mercifully forgotten (again).

A subtle hint! But I got it. You’re right, and I’ll shut up now.

Oh no, I was hinting, I really wasn’t. I’m sorry. I thought it was good advice and a better way to look at it. It reminded me of what Frodo Baggins said to a certain Sheriff leader upon the return to the Shire.

‘Very well, Mr. Baggins,’ said the leader, pushing the barrier aside.
‘But don’t forget I’ve arrested you.’
‘I won’t,’ said Frodo. ‘Never. But I may forgive you…’

Not quite the same, but I liked what you said.

I think we’re all leaving out the most important part of this whole incident. To wit:

prr, who are you backing for the 2008 Presidential election?

It’s the opposite of having a feather in one’s cap.

How about a bone in one’s nose. Where does that fit in?

Through the nostrils.

Deleted.

She hasn’t got one. But she’s got everything a girl might need, she’s a tribal animal, yes indeed.

“You know, that might be the answer - to act boastfully about something we ought to be ashamed of. That’s a trick that never seems to fail.”
