Pssst! Do not tell him about the birthday surprise party!

Five years ago I started the following thread:

Birthday Party on the Dope for swampbear!!! - Mundane Pointless Stuff I Must Share (MPSIMS) - Straight Dope Message Board It was for swampies 60th birthday.

Well. shortly the bear will be turning 65 years old!!! Like last time we need to have a big online party for him… Since he is now retired we can crash in on him at the cee-ment pond, He will love that!

As before I will bring the cake. It will have to be big, I expect we will get a lot of partygoers. I will also bake some sausage-cheese balls. The folks at my church love them, and swampbear and I are both Whiskypalians.

He still likes beer and cookies, according to his profile, but who else will come, and what other food do we need?

I make an awesome raspberry trifle, so I’ll bring that. Oh, and some red sangria.

Wow, that’s old!!!

I have some ARFF (high heat) firefighter pants; I’ll wear them to shield me from the heat as I light all those candles.

Much as I like Swampy, I cannot come to Georgia as that would involve getting on a commercial type airplane. After my last trip to Georgia, (when my brother was dying), I have sworn off flying with those people for the duration.

However, I will celebrate from afar. You only get to become an official old fart once in your life, (if you’re lucky).

Happy pretty soon Birthday, Swampy!!!

(Pssst. This is an online party.)

I will come. I will make a Brooklyn Subway Cake, and a ton of shrimp 'n grits. I’m torn between representing the G&T side of the clan or the micro-brew side. Hell with it. I’ll bring them both.

In honor of the one and only date I had with swampy, I’ll place a special order with Whitey’s Fish Camp, with an emphasis on scallops and shrimp and catfish. And some good melons from the local Amish farms.

Can you still buy Geritol???

Woohoo! A party! What kind of drinks does he like? Never mind, I’ll pack the whole bar so I can mix up anything.

He is partial to beer!

Well let’s see. I have two deviled egg plates so I shall bring deviled eggs in my plates and I know he has multiple deviled egg plates. Maybe **Mooom ** can bring some of her fancy colored deviled egg fixings. Need meats. Since Swampy just lurves folks messing in his kitchen I shall bring mucho meats and we call all help cook it. Also for a summer baby watermelon is a must. Pepper jelly over cheese w/ crackers. At the end I shall contribute anything else needed.

See Mommmm has the melons covered.

[del]I’m not sure if I’m supposed to know about this yet, so I am posting in stealth mode. Maybe I should be getting busy and cleaning up da cave and making sure there’s enough seating around the cee-mint pond. Then again, if a bunch of Dopers are showing up maybe I should the sheriff’s office so the SWAT team won’t get sent out this year. :D[/del]

I will bring majikal Intertoobz pizza.

I can bring the country ham and cheese cornbread. And more Deviled Aigs(can you ever have too many deviled aigs?)

[del]There is no such thing as too many deviled aigs. Any southern church lady will tell you that.[/del]

Devil’s aigs are good. Wait - who said that?

well Okay then!!! I shall make my world-famous cheese cake. Two of them!
And jambalaya.

And I promise to wear my swimmy suit in the ceemint pond. (this time)

Spealing of deviled things, I could dig up my grandma’s deviled clam recipe if you folks wouldn’t offended by Yankee food.

Can somebody bring a barbie? If so, I’ll go down the creek and catch a couple of barra* and some prawns* and once the grill is nice and hot we’ll chuck 'em on. And also good Aussie beer, in an esky* full of ice so it’s really cold.

Barramundi
Shrimp
Portable ice-chest.

I’ve decided, in addition to the chocolate birthday cake, I’ll make my sausage/cheese balls. I can make the dough this morning and get up early tomorrow to bake them, before we storm the Cave and veg out around the cee-mint pond.

[del]Is it too early to walk in and act surprised yet, or do I need to wait 'til later?[/del]

I shall awkwardly stand around with weird English snacks and booze. What time are we starting? The time zones are gonna be tricky to work out.
