Psycho or Innocent? Drew Peterson

Stacy Peterson’s disappearance has gotten a lot of airplay in Chicagoland for various reasons. She’s the 23-yr-old fourth wife of Bolingbrook police Sgt Drew Peterson (58) and the mother of a 2-yr-old and a 4-yr-old. Friends and family say that although she wanted out of the marriage, there’s no way she would’ve left her children behind.

There’s Stacy’s troubled past.

There’s the “accidental drowning” of wife #3, Kathleen Savio.

This morning he talked with Matt Lauer on the Today Show. There’s a link to the video in the article.

There are also some interesting coincidences, such as the disapproving brother of one of Peterson’s former flings who was found (by Drew Peterson among others) in an apparent suicide.

And there’s the strange disappearance of Stacy Peterson’s biological mother, Christie Cales

Websleuths has been going bananas on the whole thing - they have a great theory on Savio’s death: Maybe he drowned her in the toilet. That would explain the cut on the back of her head - she could have bonked it on the rim of the toilet seat.
For some reason this whole thing has fascinated me - anyone else playing armchair detective?

I joke with my secretary about this case, which occurred right around the corner from her home.
I find myself wondering about exactly where he stashed this one. Sounds like they are really pulling out all the stops in the search.
Today they said he resigned from his job - I wonder why? I would have thought he’d stick it out until convicted.
When I read the description of wife #3 drowning in a dry tub with a blood-soaked hair, I assured my wife that when I offed her I would make it look more convincingly like a suicide - if for no other reason than to save her the indignity of having to be exhumed years later.
I think she was truly touched by my consideration…

At this point if I had a married friend named, say, Tracy Peterson, I’d tell her to run like hell.

I’ve got two things to say:

This situation sure doesn’t pass the sniff test.

Alas, while the situation looks, and sounds, pretty screwy, that alone isn’t enough to convict. But if I had money to wager, I’d sure bet that he did it.

Like Dinsdale, I have some inside insight on this. A number of friends are Bolingbrook cops, including the Lt. that’s become their spokesperson.

I’ve met him and the missing child bride before. He’s genuinely creepy, she was very nice - easy to talk to, even if she is only months older than my daughter, she had a very ‘old’ feel to her.

When # 3 died, and he was seeing #4, there was already talk that something was amiss, and no doubt he did her in. Technically gossip, but gossip from cops, village officials, etc…

A very good friend of mine lives two doors down from them and was telling me yesterday about a lot of the weird crap going on with that family. I know a couple people that were on the County Narc squad that he got into trouble with several years back - they won’t come near him. The thinking around here for a long time has been that he’s dirty, maybe now he’ll have to pay a price for it. Shame that he had to take two women down before it caught up to him though.

Very interesting posts – I’m glad I asked about this here!
He keeps saying “She’s where she wants to be.”

He has to have buried her someplace where she said she wanted to go, either literally or figuratively. Maybe a favorite picnic spot?

Or, if he killed her mother as well for ratting him out to wife #3 when he was cheating on her with Stacy who was a teenager at the time…maybe Stacy said something like “I wish I could be with my Mom” so he buried her alongside her mother’s body.

Here is a site that has all of the current information wrapped into one spot if any one is interested.

Stacy Peterson time line

So why didn’t they DO something? It’s baffling - the autopsy report describes circular bruises (like from the end of a billy club) and only her left hand had wrinkling from water exposure. Plus wasn’t she sitting upright? That tub is tiny!

Websleuths go bananas on everything. The place is a hive of rumour and speculation, built on more rumour and speculation, with a tiny little bit of fact sprinkled on the top here and there to make it look nice. Sure, there’s a fair chance someone on there is saying something that approximates the truth, simply because there are so many people saying so many things - they’re bound to hit it lucky once in a while.

Oh, true Mangetout. High noise-to-sound ratio. Still fun to follow along though. And I like their toilet drowning theory, it makes a lot of sense.

My theory? Politics.

The mayor in that town is a step short of a dictator. Emphasis on the ‘dick’.
He’s not a fan of the police in his town, and they are not his biggest pals either, but the state’s attorney at the time of wife #3’s death was a political hack put into office virtually on the back of the mayor, who had a bone to pick with the former SA, who by the way, won his office back last election.

I could easily see a scenario where the coroner sees what he has, calls Political Hack SA, and says ‘well?’

PHSA then says, bury it, I owe the guy. Cynical as hell, oh yeah. I think that if the local cops could have, they would have found something - like now, the State’s Police did the investigation then, and either got lazy or just accepted some things at face value they shouldn’t have.

Holy shit.

Truth is stranger than fiction, as they say. People never cease to amaze me.
Sadly, I read where Peterson’s friend Ric Mims (who seems like something of an odd duck) is waiting for the Mayor to return from New Orleans and advise him before divulging “something” that he apparently knows. Mims has been all over Websleuths chatting about this and that at 3:00 a.m. Very odd.

Did he ever work in the Clinton administration?

I’m with you.

Breaking news:

As if this wasn’t enough of an open and shut case already, Vicki Connolly (Wife #2) has come forward today with information on her marriage to Peterson.

I hope they nail this fucker’s ass to the wall.

At the same time, their cyber sleuthing figured out that the image of the mortally wounded woman (she was shot in the head, I saw the un-retouched image) found in Oklahoma was Arabic, and their tips helped lead police to the truth. (The picture was taken as a trophy in another country.) One poster was in contact with the police and this is what they told her. They also, along with Steve Huff helped find Taylor Behl’s body and gave evidence that helped the police charge Ben Fawley with her death.

That was my first thought as well. Actually when I first heard about this case I thought they were dredging up the old Lacy Peterson case until I realized it was a new case. What the heck? If your first name sounds like “-acy” never marry a guy whose last name is Peterson.

I will not be surprised if they find Stacy’s body, and if they find Kathleen Savio didn’t die accidently. I found his Today show interview chilling, especially the point at which he laughed while asking Stacy to come home. Did you notice how much he blinked, also?

He’s also referred to his wife in the past tense on several occasions where he’s been interviewed, as in, “Stacy was a good mother” or “We used to get into fights”, rather than “Stacy is a good mother” or “Sometimes we get into fights”.

His statement “She’s where she wants to be now” could mean anything, and we could waffle on it all day, but I’m more interested in his tendency to refer to her as if she no longer exists to be more telling than anything. This has so much in common with the Scott & Lacy Peterson case that it’s astounding. By the time he got to the third wife and he realized it was turning out the same way as the first two, he decided he’d give the murder thing a try and like Mr Bus Guy said, he skirted it unscathed due to political strings being pulled, so he figured “Hey, this really works! If I don’t like 'em I really can kill 'em!” Like most cops who are bad eggs, he’s not even a good liar.

On a side note, my former girlfriend was a cop, and also a bipolar psychopath (and I’m not just saying that to exaggerate, she really had a chemical problem upstairs that took me awhile to realize because she was fairly good at hiding it). Between her and all the stories of maladjusted psychopaths in the police force, I think this is proof positive that our police departments need to make more of an effort (or maybe just an effort) to psychologically screen their workforce. There are more psychopaths with guns and badges than you’d think … the ones in the media are just the ones who are stupid enough to get caught.

That, and when he spoke of being interviewed by the police he said words to the effect of: we talked about “my story, uh the sitiuation”. That raised a red flag to me also. He said story, which implies fabrication to me, and he hastily corrected himself also. I’ll go re-watch the Today Show interviews, I can’t recall if it was in the first segment or second. Here and here are the clips.
