I would like another shot at Husker Dont. No concessions, look where that got Britain and France before WWII.
I think I just lost because I brought up Hitler.
Man, I shoulda been there. I looked over the questions and knew quite a few answers. I might have been of some help.
I don’t think I can make it on Tuesday, but if the planets align, and I get my act together early in the day, MAYBE. I could do Kate’s tomorrow. I’ll check in late tomorrow afternoon.
This week, perversely, Tuesday works better for me than Monday. I have people coming over tonight, so no Kate for me – but I can make the OP tomorrow, and there is an excellent chance that I will bring cupcakes with me (or possibly a different baked good, I haven’t decided yet).
All right then. Sounds like Kate can wait.
See y’all tomorrow!
I’d be up for trying Kate’s next week, since in theory I’d like to do a review. And I’ll be there tomorrow night, probably with my PowerBook in tow so the hosts can try keeping score in Excel for a change. That or we’ll try a different tallying method we’ve discussed, all in the hopes of eliminating the pernicious effects of alcohol on our accuracy.
You could let me do it.
I may make it after all. My appt. was moved up a bit. If I make it, I’ll be there around 7:30.
You guys didn’t notice when you were incorrectly awarded 9 points instead of 8 in the award round.
I’ll be there tonight.
Are we still planning on trying out Kate’s Pub in Wallingford tonight? A fellow Seattlestite plays there regularly – she says the host isn’t the sharpest tool in the shed; 5 to 10 teams usually play; the quiz usually starts late (8:30 or 9, though it’s scheduled for 8), but ends by 10-10:30; and she will “take us down.” She also claims to know the host’s tells when he’s reading multiple choice questions.
And the food is OK.
I’m in, probably showing up after 7:30. Unless no one else is.
I’m planning on it.
I’ll be there too. I’ll even bring my brain and stuff.
I’ll be there, but I won’t vouch for my brain.
My brain may have other plans; it’s lost its Day-Timer again, but thinks there was something.
My body, on the other hand (actually, it has both of them–deal with it, grey matter!), has been looking forward to Kate’s quiz for a while and wouldn’t miss it.
I’ll try to be there around 7.
Once again, I have a late appt. If I get done in time, I’ll be there.
Final report from Kate’s: VICTORY! And not a crushing walkoff, either; we really earned this one. Tiebreaker at the end and everything.
Plus a significantly better menu than any other trivia joints besides Celtic Bayou or The Jones.
What’s not to love?
I have no intention of returning to the OP, so it’s nice to see you guys are trying some other venues. I’ll try to join you one of these nights.
That was fun. And while it’s definitely suspenseful winning in overtime, it’s almost more satisfying.
Geeky note: I don’t know where he got his info for the #1 male baby name of 2003, but it wasn’t the US. James was the best possible answer of the 4, coming in at #18 that year. Jack, the supposed correct answer, was #46. Justin was #26, and Joe was #321. The actual #1 boy’s name from 2003? As we suspected, Jacob.
The menu looked so good I was sorry I ate dinner before going. Plus: MAGNERS ON TAP. And the bartender’s name was Katie, so I’m wondering if she was indeed the Kate the pub is named after.
It was nice. The Bacon Cheese Fries were cheap and delicious, as well as artery-hardening. Winning is always fun, of course.
The number of teams is small, though they seemed dedicated and certainly played well (not like, for instance, the 74th St Ale House version of small-crowd trivia).
The biggest problems were getting used to a new system and the lousy sound quality. They only had speakers at one end of the room, the acoustics were lousy, the non-players were sometimes loud, and Billy the Quizzer had a strong accent. All of that should be better if we come again, as we’ve seen the system and know to sit near the speakers next time.
The scoring was also a little idiosyncratic, but we’re fast learners.
