Pulled back hairstyle: why is it popular?

I concur. I find it very alluring to watch a woman put her hair up in a bun. The nape of a woman’s neck is very sexy.

This. I used to wear my hair long. Very convenient to pull it back at times. I never found it uncomfortable.

I suspect a lot of it is because long hair is mostly worn by women in our culture, behavior involving managing long hair is “feminine coded” and tends to push buttons for those who find women attractive. Just think of how many scenes in movies, shows and games there are where there’s a woman fiddling with her hair.

It’s a good choice for someone who wants to make a character draw the eye and “look feminine” without being crass or sexual about it. Like a woman getting out of a car and doing the “feminine hair flip” to put her hair in its proper place (googling, something often done consciously to show off in real life, even).
