Anyone else notice this: the company that Lefty worked for before he lost his hand and got caught insider trading was Ornen, and the mill was the Van Roenn mill.
Ornen and Roenn are anagrams of Enron. There might have been other similar connections, but if so, I missed them.
Does anyone else think that Chenowith must have an air compressor hooked to her boobs? I swear each week they become larger and more obvious. If this show goes 22 episodes (which I devoutly hope for) I don’t think she’ll be able to walk upright.
I’m beginning to wonder if they’re not deliberately messing with us on Lily’s eyepatch thing. Was that a light or a magnifier she had attached to it when she was operating on the pigeon? I can see a light, but it didn’t quite look it. And a magnifier on the eye that’s not usable?
Not a criticism, just an observation. I am definitely aware that it’s a fairy tale, not a documentary…
My only complaint with the “birdhouse in your soul” is that the song has moved into my brain and refuses to move back out. I like the song, I just don’t need it on endless repeat.
Loved the show, but are they setting some sort of new record for most commercial breaks in the final 20 minutes? Is the first half relatively commercial-free such that they need to make up for it at the end?
LOL. I mentioned the same thing to Jayjay last night, more specifically that her boobs certainly deserve a co-starring credit. They certainly are up and out there!
The first segment was about 15:00 long. If they’re trying to get the normal complement of commercial time/breaks into the show for the network and affiliates, then they may be moving everything to the last half hour.
It’s distracting and annoying. But I’ll put up with it because I find this show very charming.
Same here, hardly notice the choppiness. I both really liked and didn’t like the Birdhouse in Your Soul thing, because it seemed kind of forced to me. It was entertaining and I like the song, but the whole explanation Olive gave to get to Birdhouse in your soul thing was pretty dumb.
And I will say it every week, Chuck and the Piemaker stand way to close to each other at times for my comfort.
Dumb question, maybe answered in the pilot which I didn’t see: what is the employment relationship between Olive and the Piemaker? I get the whole “she luvs him but he only has eyes for Chuck” bit. Who owns The Pie Hole and is da boss, vs. the hired help?
You’ll note last week she had to empty it from the tears when she got the postcard… A sweet yeech moment when you realize its just a empty socket flooding her eyepatch. (Of course this is not likely to be possible)
I asked last week but nobody answered - Does anyone know why Chuck has no Mom?
I found the CG to be pretty obvious this week. Most of the outside sets were CG and some of the inside. The characters had that faint glow around them were they do not seem to be totally inside the picture. Also the plane hitting the building didn’t look quite right. I wonder if they are spending a little less on the budget? The actors must be spending a lot of time in front of green screens.
I loved when she emptied it of tears. That was too sweet, funny, and kind of “urgh”. I also loved the way they used it last night. The logical side of me wouldn’t shut up, though.
I think that’s part of the charm of this show. It seems to do a lot of things just because they look neat rather than worrying too much about the logical parsing of the scene. The set design, the prop design, the direction all just hook into the quirky little part of my brain that thinks that curlicue mountain that Jack Skellington appears on in silhouette on the poster for The Nightmare Before Christmas is the neatest little design ever.
I’m enjoying this show more and more and it only took my wife about 15 minutes for her to get hooked, too. I’m really glad it got a full year approval and, for me, it’s hands down the best new show of the season.
And if you want to see what a Ned/Chuck kiss would like like, check this out.
