According to the synopsis: An aide to a scent expert is killed in a scratch 'n sniff book explosion, and Ned suspects foul play.
I love this show.
8pm Eastern, baby!

I love this show.

Because I live north of the border…
Yay! Pee-wee Herman is back on TV. And he’s all set to become a recurring foil as he investigates the scent that is not death…
I also love the tremendous grin that Cod gets when he makes his own pop-up book.
How the heck do the mermaids swim while wearing a pagoda? What’s with the James Bond-style swim sequence?
And I do not want a cup pie, even if it has honey in the crust. I like slices of pie.

I am also in love with this show. Emerson had me cracking up tonight. I particularly enjoy seeing the different sets for each show. The designers find incredible ways to further illustrate the lifestyles of each of the auxiliary characters that are introduced in new episodes. That scent chamber was such a ridiculously entertaining feature.
Aunt Vivian’s singing made me pause from my Thanksgiving cooking.
Yep, gotta love it…
The C.H.U.D. reference…(am I the only one that got this?? - and why did they make it?)
…and Kristen Chenoweth BOUNCING in a mermaid costume…oh, yeah, I’m definitely a red-blooded male…
…and “Follow the Yellow Thick Hose!”…
…the T-shirt with “Jews for Cheeses” on it…
god, there is so much…
For some reason, this episode didn’t impress me as much as the others have. I’m not really sure why. I also figured out who was doing the “attempted murders” way at the beginning.
This show loves cleavage, all right. And how can we not love them for it?
Oh no! Oh no! My power was out when I got home and it just came back on! I missed it. Can someone give me a very detailed, very cleverly written recap?

The Facts are these…
… One hour, 19 minutes and a number of seconds that I’m really not going to try to calculate after the end of the program …
This show isn’t exactly a whodunnit.
Emerson is my favorite, though the hobbit jumping in the mermaid suit surely got my attention.
You may have to wait for online viewing. It will be well worth it.
Just what has Chuck told Olive is her excuse for “faking” her death?
The murder mystery part really isn’t suppose to be any tougher than Scooby Doo from what I can see. The show isn’t about the mystery as much as the characters, locations, fairy tales settings, excellent cleavage (now with added bouncing) and incredible singing. Damn I love Ellen Greene. I keep expecting to see a picture of Seymour though.
We learn that young Ned would sneak off to the kitchen to bake pies as he missed his mom and the warm pie reminded him of his mom.
A pretty young student died in a scratch and sniff explosion when Chas Spielman, a olfactory scent expert’s book exploded. Her completely charred body was briefly brought back to life to reveal she did not know much. (Note: throughout the show, they showed Chas Spielman office wall charred)
The team investigates the author of non-kids pop-up books whose book release had been bumped in favor of Spielman. He was not the killer, he also points out that Spielman’s book was moved to a dead time or dumped by the publisher. (This is probably when most of realized that Spielman was the killer)
Next up the return to Spielman to learn he has an arch-nemesis who might be mad and lives in the sewers. It is Paul Reubens appearing as Oscar Vibenius.
They seek Oscar in the sewers, they follow the Yellow Think Hose (say it like Yellow Brick Road and imagine the sewer walls forming a yellow brick path at the same time). The Hose leads to … Oscar, who startled, screams, everyone runs and Chas’ car above the sewer with a hose going to it explodes.
…side story …
Olive and Chuck are bonding and trying to get Chuck’s Aunts back on tour as mermaids.
…
Back to Chas and an interview. Emerson gets in a plug and meanwhile Ned gets bored and snoops around, he discovers Chas is the killer and as Ned & Emerson go to leave, they are trapped in Chas’ glass airlock like door and he is planning to kill them. He is pumping in a mix of explosive gases so Emerson cannot use his gun.
…
Meanwhile Oscar Vibenius who is now wanted for murder and attempted murder, confronts Olive and Chuck back in the Pie Hole … {Also an Olfactory Expert, he notes Chuck smells like not death, but something he has never smelled before… foreshadowing a future plot and the return of Paul Reubens in the future}
They realize the Chas is the murderer and they had switch the controls for his air system and instead of pumping explosive gases into the chamber, they pump smog and soot into Chas’ apartment, causing him to choke and collapse. Another murder solved.
…
Ellen Greene (Aunt Vivian) sings “Morning Has Broken” by Cat Stevens and the Aunts head to the pool for some stylized swimming.
Phew! that was difficult.
I loved this episode. It was great, after last weeks, weakest episode, this one may have been the best.
There are only two more episodes, this writer strike better end soon. I love this show as much as any show since Northern Exposure. I love it more than the Sopranos.

Thanks, What Exit?! How long before the ep is available for download? I have dialup, so it’ll take a couple hours to load, but it sounds well worth it.

You’re welcome.
I forgot to mention that I love Emerson’s new hobby with the Pop-Up books.
I really think they need to work the Aunts into almost every episode. They are just great, sweet, kind hearted Vivian and poor, intoxicated, cranky Lily.
They like playing up Emerson saying something related to the investigation that can be misinterpreted. At some point I hope someone lists each one.
I can’t find anything on the online version except the link: http://dynamic.abc.go.com/streaming/landing?lid=ABCCOMGlobalMenu&lpos=FEP Click on Pushing Daisies and hope it goes up soon.
One of my recurring favourite things about the show is the outside shot of the city morgue - in candy-striped red and white. How can you not love a show like that?
Cod’s a knitter! Hah! Chi McBride is freakin’ brilliant on this show.
My husband got a huge kick out of, “Don’t make me cut a bitch.” We both love this show very much.
How many takes do you suppose it took before they got one when a boob didn’t bounce out?
Dammit, they won’t use Kristin singing enough, so bouncing will have to do, I guess. The ep where she was bouncing on the bed had me in stitches.
Oh, and D-Odds: pistols at dawn. “(H)obbit” jumping?
Presumably they used double sided tape.
A lot of double sided tape.
A lot of reinforced double sided tape.
And had to redo those shots a few times.
They certainly are playing up Kristen’s…assets, aren’t they!
I love this show. They had me at the synopsis…scratch 'n sniff book explosion, indeed.
The opening scene of Young Ned curled up in bed around a freshly baked pie was very touching.
And yes, Chuck, wear a damn bell!
I was wondering why I was somewhat “meh”, till I realized I was watching it alone last night for the first time, because other fambly was otherwise engaged. Believe me, it is more fun with others.
Yay PeeWee!
I think a repeat viewing on tape is just what Thanksgiving morning calls for!
