While all your news is good, I find this wonderful. You’ll literally be in my backyard! Carrollton is a whopping 5 minutes from here and I could be there to whoop and holler and send you off. Keep me posted if you like.
Quasi…we talked about that a few months ago. Don’t do this without discussing it with your SSD/I lawyers. Seriously.
I know, Bro’. I’ve already gotten a PM from another friend telling me the same thing. I’m calling them Monday.
Thanks for the reminder. You know I appreciate and trust your judgement!
Thanks
Q
ETA: Oh shit! What about the new Ride??? Do I need to let them know that, too? Hell, it’s just pedalling a damn bike. fer Chrissakes!
Hey Kiddo,
I remember, you’re in Oklahoma, right? That would be great if we could meet. I’ll let you know and we plan to have a new website too!
Thanks!
Quasi
Yeah. Talk to them (your lawyers, not anyone at SSA) about it before committing to it. Ask them to go over the standard you have to meet to qualify as disabled with you.
Remember back when you were a kid, and you wanted a cookie, but your Mom made you eat your veggies first? Adults sometimes need to eat their veggies, too.
Nah sweetie, I’m in The Colony,Texas, which is right beside Carrollton. Yeah, just keep me posted.
I’ve never been a good speller and it’s not for trying. I rely so much on spell check that it’s a curse because I type whatever phonetic word pops into my head.
On an unrelated topic, are you slamming vitamins down likes it’s a hobby? Couldn’t hurt. That and stay away from aluminum. I don’t care what anyone says, products like antiperspirants are absorbed into the skin. It can’t be a good thing.
I’m already committed to it, brother, and we’re making Alzheimer’s a focus of it as well as the animals. Meaning we’re going to include the fact that my ass (and the rest of me!) is demented and this may be the last time I can do this.
And the thing you wrote about adults and their veggies?
Well, we also need friends such as you just as much.
Thanks for always being here for me.
I thank all of you for that!
Quasi
Well, committed to support the effort in spirit and committed to actual physical participation before talking to your lawyers about it and all possible ramifications thereof, are two very different things. And those lawyers may give some advice that won’t be easy to swallow. You may want to request an appointment for a face to face talk with them, bring your wife, and some prepared questions.
I will, Oakie, but I mean, damn!, I very badly need to do something to help the cause of “Spay, Neuter and Adopt” and the animals, and pedalling a bike is something a feeb like me can do!
Think about it: put some guy that used to have a functioning brain on a stationary bicycle, tell him to put his feet on the pedals, and what do you think he’s gonna do? Hopefully, it being a learned type of thing, he’ll (hopefully) start pedalling.
But I get your point, dear friend, I surely do. I just HAVE to do something other than just stagnate and start to stink! I can’t just keep on like this, knowing that I have at least a little brain function left.
Thanks for your advice, but I love the 4-footers, and I’ll do anything it takes, unto my dying breath, to keep another one from being put out on a side road.
Jesus Christ, what a dilemma!
Bill
You’ve spent most of your life caring about and doing for others. You’ve earned the right to be on the receiving end for a bit. At the same time, I understand you wanting to keep active doing something. Your lawyers can probably suggest things you could do without complicating the SSD/I case.
Is that for me?
Oh yeah, sure I’m taking vitamins, (E, D, C, Omega3, Multivitamin for old dudes, plus stuff that I drink, like MCT Fuel and Coconut Oil).
I even went to a faith-healer who asked me, “Have you been washed in the blood of the Lamb?”
I told him, “Hell, no, but if you got some, pour it in a cup and hand it over. Og knows I done tried everything else!!!”
Oh, about the anti-perspirants?
What do you recommend?
Thanks
Quasi
… contact the lawyers about all that you said, buddy, but I have already started training for the ride on a trainer on which I have mounted my bike under our garage, and I’m pedalling like a Mommy-Frigger!
I don’t know the whole song, but a line of it goes, “It’s a bright spot in the night-time…”
I need this and my family understands. (So far. They have not read your cautions).
I need this.
Thanks
Bill
One of the questions you should specifically ask your lawyers is this: eligibility for SSDI kicks in six months after the individual shows themselves as unable to work (ie, six months after job loss). If you start working again, even part time, that may start the six-month period over again, which you absolutely don’t want to do. Emphasize that you are considering returning to work in the same field you were employed in previously, and ask if that will make a difference to the SS folks.
Once you’ve been approved for the disability, you can earn up to $700/month, but it’ll trigger a review of your case faster than if you weren’t working (based on what they told Mr Kitty).
I’m going to put the following in a spoiler tag so you can decide whether or not to read it. I realize it may come across a little harsh, but it’s a perspective you may really want to consider.
As someone whose spouse’s life often depends on respiratory technicians, I want you to honestly evaluate your ability to return to that level of work, even on a part time/contract basis. I understand and empathize with your desire to help your patients, as well as your need to DO SOMETHING (Mr Kitty faces much the same issue) and believe me few people can understand your financial situation the way I do, but I… I just can’t help but think that it’s sort of cruel to push yourself on unknowing clients (unless you plan on telling everyone you come in contact with about your situation, which would be… awkward for everyone, I think) because you need to get back to taking care of other people/make money/feel useful.
Quasi, you got lost on your way home from the library the other night. Now you’re talking about taking people’s lives into your hands. I just think you need to be honest with yourself, take a good look at what your motivation is, and whether you are in an emotional space to deal with the inevitable loss of patients that come with that particular line of work.
Have you thought about volunteering somewhere instead to fulfill that need? Or doing what Mr Kitty did- sign up with voc rehab and go back to school for something you’ve always wanted to do. They pay for everything- books, classes, equipment… all you have to do is pass the classes you take. Think about it- if you try to say ‘I can’t keep up in an academic environment’ I’m going to have to ask why you think you can go back to being a RT.
I just spoke with Mr Kitty, who echoed what I said above about totally understanding where you’re coming from, but also that it would ‘make (him) really, really nervous to have someone in that kind of situation as his RT, unless it was well controlled by medication.’ He strongly recommended going back to school as your best option.
On the other hand, I think the ride sounds like a fantastic idea, as long as you make sure that you keep hydrated, take lots of breaks, and stress to the SS folks that the money isn’t going to you. But absolutely talk to your lawyers about it.
Quasi, what about vitamin B-12? (the liquid stuff)
Not a doc or anything. But some types of Alizhemier’s (as with almost every organic brain disorder there are probly many triggers/causes) are thought to be disorders of the mylien. (white matter of the brain) While B-12 supplementation prolly won’t impact Alizheimers, you did say that you’re suffering from depression. B-12 defiency may be linked to some forms of depression. It may help your depression.
(hope I don’t get cited for this post)
I assume you are talking about myelin, that covers the nerve fibers, protecting the electrical activity. I don’t believe Alzheimer’s pathophysiology includes demyelination.
I am yes.
And you’re right. Alzheimer’s doesn’t include demyelination (ala MS or things like the leukeodystrophies) But I thought that the current research indicates that Alz may be the result of a misfolding of mylien. Related yes, but NOT the same thing. I really wasn’t suggesting it for the Alz, but rather his depression. Maybe the depression is coming from some sort of related mylien dysfunction. Totally hypothesizing about that.
Y’all?
I think with recommending different stuff for me to take, we might be treading on “dangerous ground” (giving medical advice on The Dope which is a HUGE “No-No” here), so in order to keep the thread open, maybe we should just limit ourselves to what I have to “report” and leave it at that?
Thanks, and I love y’all!
Quasi
Dementia or not, Quasi is correct about this. Please don’t get into recommendations about what substances and supplements he should or shouldn’t be taking/rubbing on his body – leave that to his physicians.
