Queen Elizabeth crashes a wedding

You do *not *want to let Philip anywhere near the open bar.

Neither the Queen nor Camilla are dowagers.

Of *course *they are, dear, as am I. In the Margaret Dumont/Mrs. Drysdale sense of the word.

From here.

I’m a purist myself, but I think this battle is lost.

Wasn’t there a story a few years back about the Queen corresponding with a young girl who’d sent a letter out via balloon in search of a pen pal. The balloon landed on the property of one of the Queen’s estates and Her Majesty became pen pals with the girl.

I went looking for Royal news and found this:

Where the kiddies are taught not to give a damn one way or the other about carbon.

No it just means none of the kids were allowed to fart that day

Apologies to her Majesty - I’m a Yank, what do I know? Although poking around a bit, it seems that “Royal Highness” is perhaps used to refer to Prince and Princesses? She was apparently “Her Royal Highness Princess Elizabeth” at birth, and upgraded to “Her Royal Highness The Princess Elizabeth” when she became the heir.

They’re “Brenda and her Greek sailor” to their friends.

I like Charles as well, and I think he’ll make a perfectly good king. His mum doesn’t look like giving him the chance any time soon, though. Less than three and a half more years to go and she’ll be the longest serving monarch in British history.

A very kind and classy act by the queen.

And count this particular yank as a long-time admirer of Charles as well. He had every opportunity to be a playboy prince as so many others have been, but instead chose to make as his life’s work the serious business of advancing the cause of historic preservation and sustainable agriculture. His work with the Duchy of Cornwall has been impressive, and he has been a tireless advocate of a very worthy cause.

“Elevated social position”? I’d say the Queen pretty much defines “elevated social position”.

I have to admit, that’s a helluva wedding picture. I bet she’s glad she didn’t go with this wedding dress now. (NSFW if your work is stuffy about boobs hanging out.)

I wish she had crashed my wedding. With the corgis.

I think it’s definitely crashing, and if it wasn’t the Queen (or someone else who would be a great unexpected surprise), there would probably be an SDMB thread about those obnoxious people who sent back the card saying that they wouldn’t be coming and then showed up expecting to be fed.

But since it is the Queen, I think it’s a great story, even if she did crash.

Yeah, wearing a copy of the queens old dress would have been tacky.

Wow. We must be the only two people in the universe who think this.

Three.

I invited the old bitty to my high school graduation and she never even sent a card. I think she’s prejudiced against non-subjects.

I have a great deal of empathy for Diana and think that her life was a terrible and unnecessary tragedy, but I think it’s pretty clear that everyone (except possibly the tabloid media) would have been immensely better off if Charles had just married Camilla in the first place and avoided all of the ugliness.
