You’re right, I did just stumble on the post while online. It was easy signing up so I decided to respond. I really didn’t know or care about what “culture” this site has. I just thought I’d respond to a comment. That’s all. If this site is about digging up proof to back up any comment someone has then I might want to pass since life is way too short. But I came across it and it was an interesting discussion while it lasted.

Well, yes, it is when it comes to factual questions (as it should be for any discussions of matter of fact, especially on the Internet where unsubstantiated claims and falsehoods run rampant.) That’s pretty much the entire point of this board. (And nobody is going to look for proof from something you remembered from decades back for you. That’s your job because it’s your claim.)
Not like it matters after all this time, but I grew up on the west coast and gave similar a memory about this song. I found this message board trying to figure out the answer to this memory puzzle and went looking for the Bosom Buddies intro. It’s similar enough that I am willing to admit I might’ve confused that intro with the Queen song, but can’t quite shake the feeling that it’s not quite right.
Billy Joel’s “My Life” is similar to Queen’s “You’re My Best Friend”?

The similarities are endless! For one, they both have male performers singing in English. ‘Billy’ and ‘Freddie’ are both diminutive forms of their respective first names. And, um, other similarities, I’m sure.
I feel the exact same way as the wife of the OP. Even after all these years, I am convinced it WAS used by Bosom Buddies as the show’s theme, and then changed because Queen didn’t approve. In further support of their anger regarding said use of their song without permission, they removed all references and videos to same.
The opening scenes for Bosom Buddies match exactly what is in my mind. I feel like the OP’s wife is my friggin long lost twin (lost, AFTER we grew up watching said sitcom together!) What?! Stranger things could happen. 
Don’t judge me. 
I was shook when I recently you tubed (yes, I just made that a verb) the theme for Bosom Buddies, and it was NOT Queen’s, You’re My Best Friend!
Also - I’m now suspicious there is a team of folks out there in cyberspace (alternatively, in their parents’ basement) paid to remove any and all instances of any proof that one might find that has this song playing as the theme song for Bosom Buddies. I know I’m right. They can’t steal my memories. It was NOT the courtship of Eddie’s Father, it was Bosom Buddies.
That’s my story and I’m stickin to it. Bosom Buddies. And, IT WAS CHANGED. Final Answer.
(Side note: My genius friend suggested I search the dark web and I may find it…I don’t know how to do that, tho…anyone? What and where is this “dark web”?)
