It’s based on a book written a century ago, so it could hardly be expected to be up to date.
Anyway, I saw it when it was released, and loved it a lot. I’ve seen it several times since, and I’m a bit less enthusiastic, but I still think it’s an excellent movie, and probably a feat if I take into account the fact that the actors essentially don’t speak.
It has been a big hit over here, and it’s still broadcasted on TV from time to time.
I saw it with my parents when it came out on HBO. I was in my early teens. The only scene I specifically remember (other than lots of still image-type memories) was the scene where a bunch of them are sitting around a campfire at night and one of the guys bangs Ika doggie-style. That was a little uncomfortable, what with my parents next to me on the couch.
After the movie ended, I suddenly decided it was time to make my first ever attempt to shave the little wispy pubescent hairs atop my lip. I guess I decided I didn’t want to resemble my hirsute ancestors.
