Question for Republicans: If Trump wins the Nomination...

Given Trump’s completely incoherent Foreign Policy ravings, he could be much much worse:
Reneging on trade deals and charging US allies for military bases:

Complete ignorance of world affairs:

“I will be so good at the military your head will spin” No thats not Charlie Sheen speaking, thats Trump.

Even if he doesn’t start a major conflict he would destroy US relationships with allies that have been keystones of US foreign policy since the end of WWII.

I wouldnt worry about Bernie. The DNC and the uppser people in the democratic party have already chosen Hillary. The Sanders people will fall in line when they are told.

The same way that all the republicans are going to fall in line and vote for the GOP’s preferred candidate instead of Trump right? Dubious

They are dupes. The Democrat Party has succeeded in keeping the blacks on a virtual plantation with their illiberal economic policies. It’s a shame actually. My cliche ex black neighbors voted (D) but were more radical than all but 2 (R) I have talked to with regards to fixes for the so-called black community.

Got it – octopus believes most black Americans are too dumb to decide for themselves which party best represents their interests. I’m sure that’s a winning political strategy – “vote for us, dummies, quit being so stupid and voting for those guys that got Civil Rights passed and didn’t have a racist Southern Strategy!”

You do realize that the war on poverty succeeded, right?

I have no idea how Republican policies are supposed to help the poor; it seems removing the basic safety net they rely on would be a good way for things to get worse before they get better, and rabit opposition to things like socialized health care, public works projects, or indeed any sort of government action to make things better certainly don’t sound good for the average poor person, white or black.

But by all means, let’s hear your case. That is, if you plan on making one.

If you want to discuss this, go open a separate thread to do it.

It is not pertinent to this thread. Do not continue this hijack.
(That goes for anyone who decides they want to argue for or against the post by octopus.)

I knew it! Jimmy Carter’s killer rabit was a Republican! :stuck_out_tongue:

Repetitive I know, but I really want to know the answer. The last time I asked for an example (something similarly high-profile to Trump or Limbaugh), you cited my post. But I am a registered Independent, and don’t consider myself a liberal. I don’t see how my post could be an example, not even considering that an ordinary guy like me is not the right type of answer anyway.

It’s been going on ‘for decades’, according to you. So there must be some clear example of it. Please give me one.

Er, no, not really. It did reduce poverty, although a “war” should defeat an enemy, not weaken it a little. But it also created a culture of dependency, a permanent underclass, and increased crime and illegitimacy as a result until welfare reform in 1996 fixed most of the problems with the program.

Hate is a strong word, but Democrats have sought to have 20 different messages for 20 different demographic groups and seem to like keeping them in their little boxes as much as possible and to regard Republican demographic groups as a threat to their interests. And they haven’t been above running offensive, fearmongering ads near election day, targeted only to those groups, to try to drum up turnout.

Is it hate? Probably not, but in a world where a Democratic Congressman in good standing can compare tax cuts to racism, why should we be fair?

I don’t have to resort to PMs to address a particular poster, thanks.

Ah, an “underclass”! Created. Didn’t exist before, until the liberals created it. American history, no “underclass”, and then the liberals created one. OK. Got it.

Every one of the Republican candidates signed a pledge that they would endorse Donald Trump if he were to win the primary, so I fully expect all of them to support his campaign in the general, should Republican voters choose Trump. If Trump were to then lose the general election, perhaps future candidates should think long and hard about blindly signing their names to such a document.

I feel that Reince Priebus won’t have a job after this is all over. Forcing every Republican to potentially have to endorse Donald Trump for President was nuts, and shame on Priebus for putting them in such a bad situation.

They didn’t pledge to support Trump, did they? I thought they just pledged not to run as third party/independent candidates.

Here is the text of the pledge that was signed by all of the Republican candidates:

“I [name] affirm that if I do not win the 2016 Republican nomination for president of the United States I will endorse the 2016 Republican presidential nominee regardless of who it is. I further pledge that I will not seek to run as an independent or write-in candidate nor will I seek or accept the nomination for president of any other party."

Ah, thanks.

Still, I don’t think Priebus will lose his job over this. They may continue flailing in presidential elections but Republicans still control both houses and most state governments.

I wouldn’t hold your breath on this. Its most likely a simple knee jerk reaction when his party is insulted, to come back with, you guys do it worse. Evidence is not necessary as it is more of a gut feeling sort of thing.
