About 80, but that’s without going back and correcting mistakes.
God bless the instant messager.
Ahem - well, I’m currently at about 103 wpm, not counting the use of my text expander. Then again, I type all day every day. YMMV.
78 wpm is pretty darn good, IMO. I know transcriptionists who type at 60 and do just fine.
40 with som errrs.
I type about 70 wpm nowadays. Back when I was working on the helpdesk, I know I was up to about 90 wpm.
78 is very good.
The only time I was ever tested, circa 1973 on an IBM Selectric typewriter, I did 30. I have since learned to touch-type and I have no idea how fast I go, but even correcting errors, I spew forth copiously. So to speak.
Something like 50 with maybe 90%-95% accuracy if I’m copying (mainly because it’s easier to do it right the first time than go back). Of couse, when I’m composing I take longer, and have more errors for some reason.
35 - 40, but if you count cut and paste 1000s
When I was deep in the midst of a year of typing class, I got up to about 80, which was one of the highest in the class.
I’m sure I’m not as quick now, because I don’t practice as much. And working in spreadsheets all day doesn’t really hone the word typing skills, anyway.
But yeah, 78 is good.
I learned to type on an old manual Underwood typewriter and managed to consistently rack up ACCURATE typing scores of 90-100 WPM on that old thing.
I typed 8 miles to school each way - uphill in both directions - in the freezing snow - without whiteout or spell check AND with CARBON PAPER!!!
Those were the days when real men and real women knew how to get a day’s work done on the typewriter. Those were salt of the earth days, days of wine and roses.
If you tell the kids of today any of this, THEY WON’T BELIEVE YOU!!
(OK, OK, I do about 80 WPM on a standard PC keyboard at an average 85% accuracy. I don’t ever get to 100% accuracy, but I can get to 90% plus at 75 WPM)
I must hang out with some freakishly fast kids, then. At least three of my friends type at 150 WPM or greater. One actually types faster than her keyboarding teacher at school!
I can type about 25 words per minute, with mistakes. I’m better than I used to be!
Pretty fast, although I haven’t tried to time it in recent history. However, I’m sure I can do at least 80 typos per minute.
And this is what I find when I do a search for my name?!
Monstre, you’re going to give me a bad reputation.
just kidding, folks - I imagine a search like that could cause the hamsters to die en masse.
Depending on what I’m typing, I’m probably around 70 wpm. But I’m a lot faster if I’m typing something like this for the boards than if I’m working on a paper for class where I’m a lot more worried about how things sound. Not that I’m not worried about what y’all think of me and stuff, just that I’m more concerned about what the professor thinks of my writing.
Never took a typing class, but I learned to touch type when I began using bbs chat rooms while in college. At that point, I had to type fast or not keep up.
I’ve been clocked at 80 wpm, but I’m probably not that fast anymore, as I don’t do it all day anymore. I had an aunt who was a medical transcriptionist. She did 120 on a manual typewriter. (She also drank around 40 cups of coffee/day…no wonder she could type like a rocket!) Anything above 65 wpm is very good.
Last time I tested myself, I came in at about 95 wpm. But that was back when I was working with computers professionally. I’m probably considerably slower now. And, of course, as I type this, I’m making an insane number of mistakes.
